Who would have thought that in the year 2022, some 250 years after this wonderful country was founded on traditional values and principles like God, Homeland, Family, the day would come that Congress would vote for a Law imposing the prosecution of all those institutions who would disagree with gay marriage!… As Dick Morris notes, this law’s “real purpose is to set up a statutory basis for prosecuting or persecuting anyone who dissents and won’t personally co-operate with the new definition of marriage. It will go after bakers who won’t do a cake for a gay couple and all those whose religious principals do not permit them to sanction marriage between two men or two women.” In other words, it will impose on all Churches to approve gay marriage!!… Well, if this is as it is described, it will end many Christian Churches in America. For many of us, it will define the moment that, as Christians, once again, in 2000 years of Christianity, we will move underground to practice our religion.

The vote to close debate, which ran for some two and a half hours, was 61-35, according to CSPAN Capitol Hill Producer Craig Caplan. The 61 votes meant it reached the 60-vote threshold to avoid a filibuster.
Senate Democrats are quickly moving to pass the bill while the party still controls the House. Republicans are on the verge of winning the House majority and would be unlikely to take up the issue next year.
The bill has gained steady momentum since the Supreme Court’s June decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and the federal right to an abortion. An opinion at that time from Justice Clarence Thomas suggested that an earlier high court decision protecting same-sex marriage could also come under threat.
The legislation would repeal the Clinton-era Defense of Marriage Act and require states to recognize all marriages that were legal where they were performed. The new Respect for Marriage Act would also protect interracial marriages by requiring states to recognize legal marriages regardless of “sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin.”

Russian politicians approve bill banning LGBTQ ‘propaganda’
Legal experts say the legislation is so vague, law enforcement officers can interpret it as broadly as they wish.
Russia’s lower house of parliament has approved unanimously a bill that effectively outlaws any expression of LGBTQ life.
The new law widens a ban on “LGBT propaganda” and restricts the “demonstration” of LGBTQ behaviour, making any action or information that is deemed to promote homosexuality – whether in public, online or in films, books or advertising – subject to a hefty fine.
The legislation still needs the approval of the upper house of parliament and President Vladimir Putin, but those steps are seen as a formality.
“Any propaganda of non-traditional relationships will have consequences,” the speaker of the lower house, or State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, said on social media.
The bill “will protect our children and the future of our country from the darkness spread by the US and European states”, he added.
Activists say the new legislation ramps up the crackdown on “non-traditional” sexual relationships in Russia, with legal experts warning its vague language leaves room for law enforcement officers to interpret it as broadly as they wish, increasing the risk and uncertainty for the country’s LGBTQ community.
Kseniya Mikhailova of the LGBTQ support group Vykhod (“Coming Out”) told the Reuters news agency that adults-only gay bars or clubs would probably still be allowed to function, although perhaps not to advertise, but that same-sex kissing in public might be taken as an infraction.
And she said same-sex couples would begin to fear that their children might be taken away from them on the grounds that they were having a so-called LGBTQ lifestyle demonstrated to them.
Legislators say they are defending traditional values of the “Russian world” against a liberal West they claim is out to destroy them – an argument also increasingly being used by officials as one of the justifications for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Authorities have already used the existing law to stop gay pride marches and detain gay rights activists. Rights groups say the new law is intended to drive those leading “non-traditional” lives, including lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people, out of public life altogether.
“LGBT today is an element of hybrid warfare and in this hybrid warfare we must protect our values, our society and our children,” Alexander Khinshtein, one of the bill’s architects, said last month.
The legislation stipulates fines of up to 400,000 roubles ($6,600) for individuals and as much as 5 million roubles ($82,100) for legal entities. Foreigners could face 15 days of arrest and subsequent expulsion.
Mikhailova said the original ban nine years ago on LGBTQ “propaganda” towards minors had triggered a wave of attacks against the community, and that it could now expect a “tsunami” because the amendment in effect “says the state is not against violence towards LGBT people”.
Political scientist Ekaterina Schulmann said the law aimed to ban anything that showed LGBTQ relations or inclinations to be “socially acceptable” or “equal to so-called traditional family relations or sexual relations”.
“People – authors, publishers, just people – will think twice before even mentioning anything related to LGBT,” she said in an interview from Cologne in Germany.
On Thursday, the European Union also expressed its concern at the bill’s passage.
“These legislative developments fuel homophobia and further deepen the harsh repression of any critical and alternative discourse in the context of Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine,” it said in a statement.
Schulmann said the bill was also a “huge win” for the communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, which had already “assumed the powers of a political police” and was now being given the authority and responsibility to monitor all kinds of information in search of so-called LGBTQ “propaganda”.
Rights groups say they will continue to fight for the rights of minorities even as the space for expression closes.
“We plan on protecting people from this absurd law,” Natalia Soloviova, chairperson of the Russian LGBT Network told the AFP news agency.
“LGBTQ people are not leaving, they still need our help and support.”

Just finished reading about the Bill’s Passage in the Senate; my hypothesis was confirmed regarding all those dems and repubs who voted for it all have close family members of the alphabet! They were all interviewed, especially the repubs-and one very well-known -high profile senator said he had to because his son was in a same-sex marriage..
The Senators from both sides of the aisle –but especially -the republicans who voted for it– all have close family LGBTQ members- so -I was spot on with my hypothesis that Greek American Families -if polled- will be 50/50 on this-so as not to “offend” their loved ones…
Legislation cannot overrule the 1st amendment, in principle, so if the new law has any exploitable weaknesses, I’m sure some very smart attorneys will figure out a way to get the courts to strike it down…Nevertheless, even the fact that this is unfolding before our eyes is a reminder that “the same hand that lights a candle in Church” should not be “the same hand that votes Atheist politicians into positions of power”…

Sadly, the GOA hierarchy has been silent on these kinds of matters as to not offend members in their own metropolis. The GOA hierarchy marched with Marxist-anti-nuclear-family-and-anti-law-and-order BLM, pushed the Covid vaccine, liturgized at St. Barts in Manhattan, where the “pride” flag flies, honored the CEO of Pfizer Albert Bourlas who called for the criminalization of the unvaccinated, baptized the surrogate children of two gay fathers in a huge media spectacle, ordained schismatic Ukrainians, turning on the Russian faithful.
Still, they will defend their positions at every turn with clichés such as: “Jesus befriended the prostitute and the tax collector,” conveniently omitting that He also called them to repentance.
At this point, would we really expect our compromised–God forgive me–bishops and the archbishop to defend marriage between a man and a woman? Of course not.

Jesus did say “sin no more.” He also showed this woman mercy – defying the custom of the time – stoning for adultery. It is not only our Lord who we call upon to show mercy. As the Light of Christ, we too are called to not only show but be mercy. And I am not speaking to any particular event – I am speaking to a way of life – His Way.
This is unrelated; however, this is worthy of some debate and discussion. Very recently, a very proper British Lady-in-Waiting to the late Queen approached a British Born Caribbean’ heritage woman to ask her what part of Africa she was from. This elderly lady is now banned from the royal circles she thrived in for decades. She looks really up in years and some senior moment made her perhaps approach this woman to ask a silly question. It’s all over the media with cries of racism, racism.
I say to the royals, (who I never really cared for) — “forgive her trespasses.” Here’s an analogy– my late momma of blessed memory, in her nineties -went up to a woman and asked her what part of Greece she was from? When asked-why was it racism-and again– throwing her off the royal party circuit at her advanced age is cruel!
Let me simplify a dilemma a problem I’m having with the current wokeness in British society– if someone asks what part of any continent/country therein you’re from–it’s racist? Again– a woman close in age to her bestie the Queen? Aren’t elderly allowed to have a sip of the tongue? An aunt of mine in her 80’s said she stays away from making friends with people from a certain part of Greece …. silly … fill in the silly blanks… not hateful at her age…
