EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  It’s clear that something is changing in the way Greek politicians are handling the Cyprus Question recently.  Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited Cyprus and made clear statements about the illegal invasion and occupation of 1974.  The Turks were “offended,” and Dendias reacted rather in a very ironic manner: “We sincerely regret that the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, during his recent visit to Cyprus, failed to “thank” the Turkish invasion and occupation forces for their “services” in defending the Principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, the protection of human rights and Democracy”.

There is certainly a new approach under these hardened statements by a Greek official – but let’s not forget that PM Mitsotakis will also visit Cyprus on the same day as Erdogan. Are they now competing who is going to be the toughest? Is it for show, or are they hiding new instructions from their Western puppet masters?  Whatever the case a TNH commentator, rather inexperienced I have to say, and ignorant of the various underpinnings of foreign policy in Greece and Cyprus, rushed to support (who else?) PM Mitsotakis accuses Dendias of “undermining the rapprochement between Greece and Turkey.”…

Unbelievable: The “National Herald” attacks Dendias and takes the side of the Turks!

The role of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is now suspicious. After the announcement by the Turks who practically supported him against Nikos Dendias, now his “relative” paper, “Ethnikos Kyrykas/ The National Herald”, joins with Turkey to accuse Nikos Dendias!

As he states in detail in his article, which is clearly aimed at Nikos Dendias, without considering that in this way he is helping the mill of Turkish propaganda, just to “shorten” the Minister of National Defense:

“It is not bad for a politician to have ambitions that are indeed high, very high. On the contrary, I consider it a good thing. Ambition constantly motivates you to become better, not stagnate. This, of course, is one thing, and it’s another for ambition to constantly urge you to move with a saw in your hand to saw up your boss’s chair in order to take his place. This is where the situation gets worse. Of course, no one admits that he is running around with the saw (like the new president of Argentina), no matter how evident and obvious his actions are. Everyone is hiding this. It is not right to make it appear that they are trying in a fraudulent way to ascend. But what to do when sometimes these things are not hidden at all.

Nikos Dendias, for example, even the Turks smelled him. “We call on the Greek Minister of Defense to abandon his efforts to undermine the common position of the leaders of the two countries, which aims to promote Turkey-Greece relations in a constructive way. The attempts of Mr. Dendias to make a political career by creating riots between the Turkish and Greek people will not yield any results,” says the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Regardless of whether what Dendias said about the Turkish occupation army in Cyprus is true (he spoke of an “illegal, completely contrary to International Law, invasion”) and therefore the reaction of the Turks is leniently unacceptable, the comment about his political career is just wrong is not.

It is no coincidence that the Minister of Defense did not even comment on it in his immediate reaction (he issued a relevant announcement).

Ύποπτος πλέον ο ρόλος του Κυριάκου Μητσοτάκη. Έπειτα από την ανακοίνωση των Τούρκων που πρακτικά τον στήριζαν έναντι του Νίκου Δένδια, τώρα το «συγγενικό» του έντυπο, «Εθνικός Κήρυκας», συντάσσεται με την Τουρκία για να κατηγορήσει τον Δένδια!

Όπως αναλυτικά αναφέρεται σε άρθρο του που έχει ξεκάθαρα στόχο τον Νίκο Δένδια, χωρίς να υπολογίζει πως με αυτό τον τρόπο ρίχνει νερό στον μύλο της τουρκικής προπαγάνδας, μόνο και μόνο για να «κοντύνει» τον υπουργό Εθνικής Αμύνης.

«Δεν είναι κακό να έχει ένας πολιτικός φιλοδοξίες και μάλιστα υψηλές, πολύ υψηλές. Αντίθετα, το θεωρώ καλό. Η φιλοδοξία σε παρακινεί συνεχώς να γίνεσαι καλύτερος, να μη βαλτώνεις. Αυτό βέβαια είναι άλλο, και είναι άλλο η φιλοδοξία να σε παροτρύνει συνεχώς να κινείσαι με ένα πριόνι στο χέρι για να πριονίζεις την καρέκλα του αρχηγού σου προκειμένου να του πάρεις εσύ τη θέση. Εδώ η κατάσταση γίνεται νοσηρή. Κανένας βέβαια δεν παραδέχεται ότι κυκλοφορεί με το πριόνι (σαν τον νέο πρόεδρο της Αργεντινής) όσο φανερές και εξόφθαλμες και αν είναι οι ενέργειές του. Ολοι το κρύβουν αυτό. Δεν είναι σωστό να φαίνεται ότι προσπαθούν με δόλιο τρόπο να ανέλθουν. Τι να κάνεις όμως που μερικές φορές αυτά τα πράγματα δεν κρύβονται με τίποτα.

Τον Νίκο τον Δένδια για παράδειγμα τον πήραν μυρωδιά μέχρι και οι Τούρκοι. «Καλούμε τον Ελληνα Υπουργό Αμυνας να εγκαταλείψει τις προσπάθειές του για υπονόμευση της κοινής θέσης των ηγετών των δύο χωρών, η οποία στοχεύει στην προώθηση των σχέσεων Τουρκίας – Ελλάδας με εποικοδομητικό τρόπο. Οι προσπάθειες του κ. Δένδια να κάνει πολιτική καριέρα δημιουργώντας ταραχές μεταξύ του τουρκικού και του ελληνικού λαού δεν θα αποδώσουν κανένα αποτέλεσμα» αναφέρει το τουρκικό ΥΠΑΜ σε ανακοίνωσή του.

Ασχετα αν αυτά που είπε ο Δένδιας για τον τουρκικό στρατό κατοχής στην Κύπρο είναι αληθή (μίλησε για «παράνομη, παντελώς αντίθετη με το Διεθνές Δίκαιο, εισβολή») και άρα η αντίδραση των Τούρκων είναι επιεικώς απαράδεκτη, το σχόλιο περί πολιτικής του καριέρας μόνο άστοχο δεν είναι.

Και δεν είναι τυχαίο που ο Υπουργός Αμυνας στην άμεση αντίδρασή του (έβγαλε σχετική ανακοίνωση) δεν το σχολίασε καν».
