EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis) These are the “woke” Olympics in Paris and produce one controversy daily. This time it was an American shut putter, who declared himself non-binary and prefers “they/them”, who, in addition wore a mask and sunglasses in competition and painted “their” hair in two bright colors, as you see… Sponsored by Nike!! Does Nike realize they will lose “bigly” by this sponsorship? Sorry, but I am not going to let my young kids or grandkids be subjected to this disgusting imagery… And Nike will pay the price.
It is time for us, Greek-Americans, to lead the way for the permanent return of the Games to Greece under one condition: the classical Olympic spirit has to be preserved. This joke of the Paris Olympice makes a mockery of the finest ideals of our ancestors and especially of their devotion to elegance and simplicity.
Raven Saunders, 28, is a famous weightlifter on the US track and field team. She declares herself a non-binary lesbian and prefers the male pronoun. During live coverage of the women’s shot put qualification at the Stade de France, Paris, BBC commentator Steve Backley was corrected by his co-host Jazmin Sawyers for not using the correct pronouns for US women’s weightlifter Raven Saunders.
Steve Backley, former Team GB javelin thrower, repeatedly referred to Saunders as ‘she’ during his commentary. Raven Saunders, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games, identifies as non-binary and prefers the use of the pronouns they/them. The correction took place live, with Sawyers promptly pointing out the error. “It’s good to see Raven Saunders again. It’s always good to see her, I mean, to see her, you know,” Backley told BBC viewers, referring to Saunders’ distinctive mask. Sawyers replied: ‘Well, we can’t see them very well. Raven Saunders is actually non-binary and wears the mask there, we’re quite used to seeing them in interesting attire.”

Reactions and controversy
Raven Saunders, who qualified for the Olympic final, described her mask as part of her Hulk-inspired alter-ego after dealing with mental health issues. In 2021, Saunders explained to Yahoo Sports, “I learned how to compartmentalise, the same way Bruce Banner learned how to control the Hulk, I learned how to let the Hulk out at the right times, and it also gave me a sign of mental peace.” Backley’s comment was quickly noted by those critical of gender diversity, while many applauded Sawyers for correcting the error. The incident ignited the debate on the proper representation and inclusion of gender identities in sports broadcasts. The Paris 2024 Olympics have been marked by several controversies, including one concerning Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, described as a ‘man’ by detractors such as J.K. Rowling. Khelif was allowed to compete by the International Olympic Committee despite being disqualified from last year’s Women’s World Championships due to high levels of testosterone.
Since their modern inception the “Olympics” have gradually and now totally been conquered by mainly the western corporate sector whose political arm seeks to impose its inhuman values on the world. A return to Greece permanently will not help restoration of ancient Greek values of the Olympics as they too have been squandered and destroyed. Sad to say, the Olympic “movement” needs either a total overhaul or to be dismantled. It’s on its deathbed anyway.
Agreed Eleni. The classical ideals of our Olympics is no more, especially in Greece. I’m afraid it’s more of the same as in Paris. They should call them the Caligula Breads and Circuses and just have them at the Roman Coliseum. Our apostasy from God is too great. We need to repent and ask God for forgiveness.
