EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). Russia condemned the Israeli offensive in Lebanon as it called on the Jewish state to stop hostilities and withdraw troops from the Arab republic immediately, according to the statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry (below). Already, Russia has shown its support for Iran by installing its advanced S-400 air defense missiles and even more advanced electronic countermeasures, while unverified reports are referring to the installation of very powerful radar on the western part of the country that can control a very wide area – hundreds of miles around it.
To understand the situation, you should consider that Israel recently had hit Syria, and not only some buildings in Damascus but also Tartous in the Mediterranean, where the Russians have a naval base! According to Bulgarian sources, the Russians struck down 13 Israeli missiles (link here). The Israelis do not have anywhere near the radar and missile technology the Russians have because they depend on American companies like Raytheon. But their arrogance leads them in stupid decisions for which they are bound to pay a heavy price soon.
Let me note here that for a few years before the start of this crisis, Putin, who grew up closely with a Jewish family in St. Petersburg and is very sympathetic to Israel (along with having 1.2 million Russian Jews living in Israel) had established a preferential relationship with Tel Aviv: Israel was allowed to hit Islamist bases in Syria if it gave advance warning to the Russians. And Israel reciprocated in kind refusing to participate in western sanctions against Russia.
Netanyahu was reported to have anxiously asked to talk to President Putin yesterday before the Iranian missiles hit Israel in an effort to convince the Russian leader to mediate with Iran and avoid the attack. The phone call never happened. However, a few weeks ago, in early September, an Israeli delegation visited Moscow to talk with the Russians regarding the release of the hostages by Hamas. No outcome of these talks was reported, but obviously, there is no chance for success now.
It is increasingly clear that Israel’s self-destructive policies are leading the country into a corner…

Russia urges Israel to immediately stop its ground operation in Lebanon — MFA
MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. Russia condemned the Israeli offensive in Lebanon as it called on the Jewish state to immediately stop hostilities and withdraw troops from the Arab republic.
“Russia condemns the [Israeli] attack on Lebanon and calls on Israel to immediately stop hostilities, withdraw troops from Lebanese soil and start looking for ways toward resolving the Middle East conflict,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“We express solidarity with the leadership and people of the friendly Lebanese nation targeted by [Israel] aggression. And we offer our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed,” the Russian diplomatic agency stressed.
Israel has been delivering massive airstrikes on Hezbollah military targets since it launched Operation Northern Arrows in Lebanon on September 23. The Shia movement’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut on September 27. Last night, the Israeli army launched a limited ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon.

Russia will limit its involvement in the area to protecting its position in Syria.
