Abbots and monks of 40 monasteries in Greece and Mount Athos spoke out in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The monks stated that the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church continues with unabated intensity.
Abbots and abbesses of 39 monasteries in Greece and the Holy Mount Athos have issued an open letter in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The full text of the letter was published by the Greek edition of the UOC website .
Here is the full translation into Ukrainian:
“And all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim. 3:12).
Persecution is a sign of the authenticity of the Christian life, according to the Apostle Paul, and the Lord says: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:10).
In our time, when the world is immersed in the violence of weapons and stands on the brink of nuclear catastrophe, we join our voices and prayers with those of many Orthodox patriarchs, bishops, clergy, and monks for the cruelly persecuted Ukrainian Orthodox Church, led by Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
As is known, after the illegal seizure of numerous churches and monasteries, arrests, persecutions, and imprisonments of bishops, the Ukrainian state has taken another step in recent years, adopting Law No. 8371/2024 on August 20, 2024, which outlaws the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the leadership of Metropolitan Onuphry, to whom the vast majority of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine (approximately 24 million people) remain loyal.
This law turns Ukraine, a country with a “European orientation,” into a state from the times of Hitler and Stalin, legalizing persecution and suppression, hatred and slander, confiscation and closure of UOC churches, attacks and raids, even accompanied by bloodshed.
A prime example is the violent seizure of the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael of the UOC in Cherkasy, which took place on October 17, 2024.
On the night of October 17, at about 3 a.m., about 100 people in camouflage uniforms and with their faces covered burst into the cathedral. The attackers tried to take over the church by force. When a group of UOC believers led by Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv tried to defend the cathedral, the attackers opened fire with pneumatic weapons, used chemical agents, and beat and injured dozens of people, including Metropolitan Theodosius and priests.
Later, a video posted on the Internet showed the attackers performing a “prayer” in the church, allegedly under the leadership of representatives of the so-called autocephalous “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
After the bloody seizure, Metropolitan Theodosius addressed his flock: “We did everything we could to protect the cathedral. Unfortunately, it is impossible to resist violence. We will try to achieve justice in the courts, but knowing how cases are decided here – solely out of political expediency – there is almost no chance of success.”
The persecution continues with unabated intensity.
In this regard, it is worth recalling the earlier statement of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who “strongly condemns any act of violence, especially directed against places of worship, from which only messages of love, peace and solidarity emanate, such as, for example, the recent act against the church of Saint Dionysius in Kolonaki.”
We pray to the Lord, the Lord of the world, that He may soften the cruelty of the hearts of the powerful of this world, stop all violence, and grant much-needed peace to Ukraine and the entire world.
May this happen through our Christian faith, repentance, patience, and love, as His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry teaches us.
With blessings and wishes for a good and blessed year.”

There are 20 large monasteries on Mt. Athos…this “first wave” of signatures only has a handful of them…let’s keep watching….remember that 7 large monasteries had voted in favor of sending a delegation to the “enthronement” of Epifanios a few years ago…
Markos:
Good points, but now no one can say that the Greek Church recognizes the schismatics. Trust me, I have heard that from non-Greek priests. To me it is a big deal that those monasteries have signed. May God bless them and reward them for standing up to protect UOC and His Church from these attacks. I hope more monastics as well as Clergy and Biships will come to show their support.
Christ said, “blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake.” The key is whether or not the persecution is actually for righteousness sake. People are routinely persecuted for many, many things, but typically it’s not for righteousness sake.
Without a doubt, the UOC is being persecuted in Ukraine. Why are they being persecuted though?
Is it because the UOC believe in Christ, as the Russsian Church was persecuted by the atheist Bolsheviks? No, it isn’t that. Are they being persecuted because of Orthodox Christian dogma? No, it isn’t that either.
The sole reason why the UOC is being persecuted is because they refuse to fully separate themselves from the Russian Church. The same thing is starting to happen now in Estonia. For national security reasons, both the Ukrainian and the Estonian governments don’t want any organization or church that has affiliation with an aggressor country. This is perfectly understandable too. The same thing would happen in the U.S. if we were at war with Russia.
Are you advocating a “separation from the Russian Church” because you simultaneously claim to believe what you say when you recite “…in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church”?
Or is it that we need to refer to the famous quote from the book of Acts “do you understand that which you are reading”?
Let’s stop with the blatant hypocrisy and ask the Patriarch of Constantinople to explain why he and his “αυχενοκαμπτες” synodic followers are persistently ignoring the clear edict of a prior Synod of Constantinople on the destructive and divisive practice of Ethnophyletism?
And, then what, Joseph? If the UOC ‘separates’ itself from the mother Russian Church, then what happens? Are they supposed to merge with the OCU? How can they merge with a graceless body made up of schismatics, deposed clergymen and self-ordained laymen?! You need to start thinking harder about this, and stop being a broken record!
Joseph:
You are clueless! How dare you speak about Ukrainian and Estonian orthodox people as if they are traitors? They are protecting their temples with their life. Shame on you! Stop being brainwashed and do a little research. It’s not that hard!
Joseph you are truly the devil’s minion. Repent for your soul is in a murky foulness as deep as Black Bart. The UOC is persecuted because they follow the ancient canons and traditions of our Holy Faith. They do not follow the heretical schismatic in the Phanar. Your public words steep you in the same blood on your hands as Black Bart of holy priests and monks of the canonical Church of Ukraine. You probably have no idea how little time you have to repent. You truly disgust me.
I don’t know where to post this, but for everyone who followed the condition of Archbishop Anastasios, may he rest in peace! A defender of the UOC that worked tirelessly to revive the OC in Albania.

May the Lord give the OCs of Albania an archbishop that will follow in his faithful steps!
I will post something later
Thank you, Nick!
Lord have mercy! Finally some much needed vocal support for the persecuted UOC, the only, true Orthodox faithful in Ukraine!
Many prayers, sending our love to Met Onufriy, all his clergy, and followers. God bless you all….
Wow! I must confess, I did not expect to see this kind of info at least for a while. But it looks like there is hope that the truth will come out at least partially, and we may be able to find out who the real enemies of our OC are and who is paying to terrorize the UOC and it’s supporters. May they go down in shame:
