I could hardly believe my eyes this morning when, as usual, I skipped through the front pages of the Athenian newspapers.  “Estia,” the oldest of all Greek newspapers, has been published continuously since 1876 and enjoys maximum respect and credibility.  Today the second front page theme was the cancellation of the invitation by our NY Federation’s Parade Committee to Maria Karystianou to participate as an “honored person” in our parade on Fifth Avenue on March 30 (article by Mary Benea – see below in English and Greek).  As far as I remember, it’s the first time our Parade has drawn negative news in Athens!… Usually, the news every year is positive, and the parade is covered live or in extensive reports by the Greek news media…

Maria Karystianou has been leading the struggle for justice after the Tempi Rail Accident where, almost two years ago,  58 people, mostly young, were killed… The corrupt political and justice system of Greece has done everything possible to hide or destroy evidence and to postpone justice for those responsible. It was revealed recently that a wagon carrying dangerous chemicals was attached to the passenger train!!

It seems likely that after the shockwaves caused by the one million people who demonstrated last Sunday in Syntagma Square and 110 other Greek cities and also abroad (including in Astoria, NY), the Mitsotakis government, terrified by the apparent rejection by the people and the implicit demand for their resignation, tried once again to silence the voices demanding justice! The question to the Parade Committee is simple: Did Mitsotakis give the order to cancel Maria Karystianou’s presence in New York? If not, who demanded it?

The questions for Philip Christopher and Yiannis Stroumbakis, chairs of the parade Committee, are very harsh:

• Last Thursday, you announced that your Committee would decide “tomorrow.”  Today is Sunday, and we are still waiting…
• Last Thursday, Philip Christopher asked the people present to raise their hands and vote.  About 90 out of the 100 people present voted with a loud “YES” to inviting Maria Karystianou to our Parade!!
• Will you now ignore the people’s vote and go against our Omogenia? Is this your concept of democracy?
• Mr. Christopher, whenever you open your mouth on contentious issues, you explain that you sought the advice of the Greek Ambassador, the Greek Consul(s), or the Greek Foreign Ministry.  Since when has our – always vibrant community – had to take the advice/orders of the most corrupt government and the most corrupt politicians on Earth, those of Greece? Is this your vision for our community? To follow the demands of the corrupt Greek politicians?
• Is this how you will lead our community in the future? By subjecting us to various corrupt elites, here (Archdiocese) or in Greece?
• We are hoping that you will make the right decision ASAP.  And that you will send Maria Karystianou a warm apology letter to explain the confusion, inviting her to come to the Parade…

Maria Karystianou was “cut off” from the March 25th parade in New York! So, suddenly…

Despite Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ assurances in his interview with ALPHA that the targeting of relatives of the Tempi victims is coming to an end and despite his statements that “I bow my head” in front of a mother who lost her child, an unpleasant surprise and a great disappointment awaited Maria Karystianou.

While she had been invited by the Greek-American community in Astoria, New York, to attend as an honored person in the big March 25th parade, she was suddenly notified that the guest list was closed, without their presence and that “we will be happy to see you next time”!

And this happened last Wednesday, January 29, in the morning, while two days earlier, on Monday, January 27, after the magnificent gatherings around the world on Sunday, January 26, almost all television stations were broadcasting the information that the President of the Tempi 2023 Association of Relatives of Victims Association Maria Karystianou would be an honored person at the Greek Diaspora parade on March 25, in Astoria, USA.

In fact, Ms. Karystianou had accepted the invitation, responding positively to the relevant email, which was sent to her the day after the large gatherings at Syntagma and in dozens of cities in Greece and abroad.

Information indicates that the desire of the Greek “Omogemia” to have Maria Karystianou participate in the great parade of March 25th was so great that at first there was the thought of her attending as the master of ceremonies of the event.

The same sources claim that Ms. Karystianou received a phone call from a person from the Greek Community the day after the great rally at Syntagma, where she had captivated everyone with her stirring speech.

The person who contacted her had attempted, as she told her, to get in touch with her days before, but this had not been possible.

On Monday morning, January 27, the person from the Greek Diaspora contacted Ms. Karystianou, saying that the invitation had been sent to her email a few days earlier.

Because the President of the Association of Relatives of Victims had not been informed, the invitation was sent again via email on Monday, January 27.

That same afternoon, Maria Karystianou responded positively to the invitation from the Greek Diaspora, stating that she would be present as an honored person at the March 25 parade.

But then an unexpected development occurred:

Last Wednesday, January 29, at 7 a.m., Ms. Karystianou received a new email from the Greek Diaspora, this time canceling the invitation.

Given the seven-hour time difference between Greece and America, the Greek Diaspora’s message via email was sent around midnight on Tuesday to Wednesday, informing her that the guest list had been completed and they would be happy to have her next time!

The targeting of Maria Karystianou and the relatives of the victims has never stopped since the day they began their struggle to reveal the truth about Tempi.

The best evidence is how the private TV channels treated the audio material from the scene of the train collision.

Speaking to the newspaper “Thessaloniki”, which was published yesterday, in an interview she gave to journalists Dimitris Kareklidis and Christina Haleplidou, Maria Karystianou said:

Journalists: Did you send audio material to private channels?

Karystianou: And we did contact them privately, yes, and they initially said “of course we will help you,” but ultimately refused.

While he expressed fears for the lives of those involved in the investigation, saying:

Journalists: The expert report was released, which essentially negates the claim that the train was not carrying anything dangerous and stated that he gave them to lawyers so that they would not be lost if something happened to it…What do you think he means?

Karystianou: I imagine what you and all of us imagine. That the deeper we delve into this dirty story, the more our lives are at risk. Let’s not forget that two people who were involved in the audio recordings and were key witnesses were mysteriously killed. No one has investigated this.

Journalists: Do you also associate it with the disappearance of the prosecutor’s son?

Karystianou: It crosses my mind, but I don’t want to say anything because we hope it’s not that. But what intelligent person wouldn’t make that connection?

“Εκοψαν” τη Μαρία Καρυστιανού από την παρέλαση της 25ης Μαρτίου, στην Αστόρια! Ετσι, ξαφνικά…

Παρά τις διαβεβαιώσεις του πρωθυπουργού Κυριάκου Μητσοτάκη στην συνέντευξη του στον ALPHA ότι, μπαίνουν τίτλοι τέλους στη στοχοποίηση των συγγενών θυμάτων των Τεμπών και παρά τις δηλώσεις του ότι, “σκύβω το κεφάλι” μπροστά σε μια μάνα που έχασε το παιδί της, μιά δυσάρεστη έκπληξη και μιά μεγάλη ματαίωση περίμενε τη Μαρία Καρυστιανού.

Ενώ είχε κληθεί από την Ομογένεια στην Αστόρια, για να παραβρεθεί ως τιμώμενο πρόσωπο στη μεγάλη παρέλαση της 25ης Μαρτίου, ξαφνικά την ειδοποίησαν ότι, η λίστα των προσκεκλημένων έκλεισε, χωρίς την παρουσία τους και πως “θα χαρούμε να σας δούμε μιάν επόμενη φορά”!

Κι αυτό συνέβη την περασμένη Τετάρτη 29 Ιανουαρίου, το πρωί, ενω δύο ημέρες νωρίτερα, την Δευτέρα 27 Ιανουαρίου, μετά τις μεγαλειώδεις συγκεντρώσεις σε όλο τον κόσμο της Κυριακής 26 Ιανουρίου, σχεδόν όλοι οι τηλεοπτικοί σταθμοί μετέδιδαν την πληροφορία ότι, η Πρόεδρος του Συλλόγου Συλλόγου Συγγενών Θυμάτων Τέμπη 2023 Μαρία Καρυστιανού θα είναι τιμώμενο πρόσωπο στην παρέλαση της Ομογένειας στις 25 Μαρτίου, στην Αστόρια των ΗΠΑ.

Μάλιστα η κ. Καρυστιανού είχε αποδεχτεί την πρόσκληση, απαντώντας θετικά στο σχετικό email, που της εστάλη την επομένη των μεγάλων συγκεντρώσεων στο Σύνταγμα και σε δεκάδες πόλεις της Ελλάδας και του Εξωτερικού.

Πληροφορίες αναφέρουν ότι, ήταν τόσο μεγάλη η επιθυμία της Ομογένειας, να συμμετέχει στη μεγάλη παρέλαση της 25ης Μαρτίου και η Μαρία Καρυστιανού, που στην αρχή υπήρχε η σκέψη να παρευρεθεί ως τελετάρχης της εκδήλωσης.

Οι ίδιες πηγές υποστηρίζουν ότι, η κ. Καρυστιανού έλαβε τηλεφώνημα από πρόσωπο της Ομογένειας την επομένη του μεγάλου συλλαλλητηρίου στο Σύνταγμα, όπου είχε καθηλώσει τους πάντες με τη συγκλονιστική ομιλία της.

Το πρόσωπο, που επικοινώνησε μαζί της είχε επιχειρήσει, όπως της είπε, να έρθει σε επαφή μαζί της μέρες πριν, αλλα αυτό δεν είχε καταστεί δυνατό.

Τη Δευτέρα το πρωί, στις 27 Ιανουαρίου, ο άνθρωπος από την Oμογένεια, που επικοινώνησε με την κ. Καρυστιανού, την ότι, είχε σταλεί η πρόσκληση στο email της, λίγες ημέρες πριν.

Επειδή η Πρόεδρος τπυ συλλόγου συγγενών θυμάτων δεν είχε λάβει γνώση, η αποστολή της πρόσκλησης, μέσω email, επαναλήφθηκε τη Δευτέρα 27 Ιανουαρίου.

Η Μαρία Καρυστιανού το ίδιο απόγευμα απάντησε θετικά στην πρόσκληση της ομογένειας ότι, θα είναι παρούσα ως τιμώμενο πρόσωπο στην παρέλαση της 25ης Μαρτίου.

Αλλά στη συνέχεια συνέβη μιά αναπάντεχη εξέλιξη:

Tην περασμένη Τετάρτη 29 Ιανουαρίου, στις 7 το πρωί, η κ. Καρυστιανού έλαβε ένα νέο email από την Ομογένεια, που αυτή τη φορά ματαίωνε την πρόσκληση.

Δεδομένης της διαφοράς ώρας επτά ωρών της Ελλάδας με την Αμερική, το μήνυμα της Ομογένειας μέσω της ηλεκτρονικής αλληλογραφίας είχε σταλεί γύρω στα μεσάνυχτα της Τρίτης προς Τετάρτη, όπου την ενημέρωναν ότι, η λίστα με τους προσκεκλημένους έχει συμπληρωθεί και θα είναι χαρά τους η παρουσία της, μιάν επόμενη φορά!

Η στοχοποίηση της Μαρίας Καρυστιανού και των συγγενών θυμάτων δεν σταμάτησε ποτέ, από την ημέρα, που ξεκίνησαν τον αγώνα, για να αποκαλυφτεί η αλήθεια για τα Τέμπη.

Κορυφαία απόδειξη το πώς αντιμετώπισαν τα ιδιωτικά κανάλια το ηχητικό υλικό απο το χώρο της σύγκρουσης των τραίνων.

Μιλώντας στην εφημερίδα “Θεσσαλονίκη”, η οποία κυκλοφόρησε χτες, σε συνέντευξη, που έδωσε στους δημοσιογράφους Δημήτρη Καρεκλίδη και Χριστίνα Χαλεπλίδου, η Μαρία Καρυστιανού είπε:

Δημοσιογράφοι: Σε ιδιωτικά κανάλια στείλατε ηχητικό υλικό;

Kαρυστιανού:Και σε ιδιωτικά απευθυνθήκαμε ναι, τα οποία στην αρχή είπαν “βεβαίως να σας βοηθήσουμε”, αλλά τελικά αρνήθηκαν.

Ενώ εξέφρασε φόβους για τη ζωή όσων έχουν εμπλακεί στην έρευνα λέγοντας:

Δημοσιογράφοι: Βγήκε το πόρισμα του πραγματογνώμονα που ουσιαστικά αναιρεί τον ισχυρισμό ότι δεν μετέφερε κάτι επικίνδυνο η αμαξοστοιχία και δήλωσε ότι τα έδωσε σε δικηγόρους για ναμην χαθούν αν του συμβεί κάτι…Τι πιστεύετε ότι εννοεί;

Kαρυστιανού: Φαντάζομαι αυτό που φαντάζεστε κι εσείς και όλοι μας. Ότι όσο πιο βαθιά μπαίνουμε σεαυτή την βρώμικη ιστορία κινδυνεύει η ζωή μας. Μην ξεχνάμε ότι δύο άνθρωποι που ενεπλάκησαν στα ηχητικά και ήταν μάρτυρες-κλειδιά σκοτώθηκαν μυστηριωδώς. Κανένας δεν το έχει ερευνήσει αυτό.

Δημοσιογράφοι: Το συσχετίζετε και με την εξαφάνιση του γιου της εισαγγελέα;

Kαρυστιανού: Περνάει από το μυαλό μου, αλλά δεν θέλω να πω κάτι διότι ελπίζουμε να μην είναι αυτό. Ποιος νοήμων άνθρωπος όμως δεν θα κάνει αυτό τον συσχετισμό;
