ΓΙΑ ΜΕΤΑΦΡΑΣΗ ΧΡΗΣΙΜΟΠΟΙΗΣΤΕ ΤΙΣ ΣΗΜΑΙΕΣ ΣΤΟ ΚΑΤΩ ΜΕΡΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΟΘΟΝΗΣ ΣΑΣ

Following the continuous demonstrations in Greece in support of the cause of justice for the 57 victims of the Tempi Railroad disaster and the outcry against the Parade Committee of the NY Federation for the withdrawal of the invitation for Maria Karystianou, a new demonstration is planned for Tuesday 7 pm outside the Federation’s Offices (“Stathakeion”) in Astoria at 22-51 29th Street.
The organizers are the “Movement in Support of the Victims of Tempi” (you can link here to their Facebook Page), who will ask the Parade Committee to reinstate Maria Karystianou’s invitation as an “honored person” in the Greek Independence Parade on 5th Avenue, on March 30th, as they explain in their announcement below.
A “Panomogeniaki” meeting will take place in the Federation’s Building to deal with the Parade’s issues. This time, however, the meeting will be marked by those who will gather to demonstrate and demand that Maria Karystianou be honored in our Parade.
We rarely have the chance to witness our community so stirred up and animated over a cause, but this is undoubtedly a “national” cause. What use is to fight for Cyprus, the “Name of Macedonia,” and all the rest of the causes that in the past have motivated the Greek-American community if Greece’s political elites are permeated by corruption, are undermining the Justice system rendering it unable to deliver justice in such an extreme case of a disaster that took the lives of 57, mostly young people…
Meanwhile, in Greece, we have many reports daily in newspapers, websites, and even on TV rejecting and criticizing the Parade Committee’s decision to reverse Maria Karystianou’s invitation. This is the first time in memory that the organizers of our Paracde received negative publicity in Greece, where the Parade is televised live or reported as significant news on all leading TV channels…
The ball is now on the Parade Committee’s park. By inviting Maria Karystianou, they will not only do the right thing, complying with the popular demand, but they will also guarantee the financial success of the Parade. Her participation will create so much enthusiasm that collecting financial support for the Parade will be easy… I will explain more on the specifics if they allow me to speak tomorrow!!… As we all know, the “secret” to any Parade’s success is to cause excitement around the issues that unite us!…
PS 1. Indicative of the fight behind the scenes was the report by Maria Antoniadou in Kathimerini, falsely implicating AB Elpidophoros (supposedly in favor of Karystianou – link here). The Archbishop does not want to interfere in the Parade Committee. But what is holding him back from making a supportive statement for the cause of Justice? How about Metropolitan Apostolos of NJ? Would he grab the opportunity to express his Christian feelings?
PS 2. “Nomiki and the Orangutans” are now totally discredited after their utterly divisive behavior in sending two invitation letters (To Giannis Smaragdis and Maria Karystianou). It would be constructive if they avoided further attempting to present themselves as the “true” Federation. They are not… The true Federation will develop shortly and “the Orangutans” have no place in it…
PS3. Philip Christopher was dead set against Netflix for canceling the series “Famagusta” after Turkey demanded it, and he called for a boycott of Netflix. Yet, suddenly, last week, Mr. Christopher, who is supposedly fighting for “Justice in Cyprus,” announced the invitation to Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, to be “honored” in our Parade!! Shame and all relevant words have lost their meaning…
