The much-advertised “free” coverage of the Parade by MEGA TV, owned by Vangelis Marinakis, “cut off” the “Tempi Group,” which consisted of about 250 people demanding Justice for the victims of the railroad disaster. Why, exactly, did they do this? Whose intervention was it? Is this how some define “democracy” and “participation” in this community? By suppressing and excluding a part? AB Elpidophoros, to his credit, supported the “Tempi Protest” with a statement to ANT1. PLEASE GO TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST FOR A REPORT AND VIDEOS.

This was one of the largest parades in memory regarding marchers, with groups and associations moving along Fifth Avenue for over three hours – but the chilly weather affected people’s presence on the sidewalks. The participation of schools of all grades and types was the largest I have seen, which is certainly a hopeful sign. It was obvious that the people have finally risen from a multi-year “COVID effect”; it was also evident that the Archbishop’s Office had sent strong signals to all the parishes, schools, and organizations to come out with a “full crew” – and they did…
The Evzones once again headed the Parade and filled us with pride. If only the organizers had remembered to include a short speech at each event to remind all participants of our celebrations’ symbolic and historic meaning!! Lou Katsos, known for his passion for history, pointed out this simple truth at the Pierre breakfast and gave a fantastic speech at Bowling Green on Friday (please see separate post).

Then the dancers from Corfu…

And Yiannis Nikolopoulos as “Gergios Karaiskakis”…

Followed by lots of youngsters and schools…

AND THE CRETANS….

The Doctors and Lawyers…

and more students…

AND THE TEMPI GROUP 57…. HEADED BY THE GREEK FLAG AND DRESSED IN BLACK…

They stopped before the grandstand and announced all 57 names of the dead… Below, you can see a video and a report from Thanassis Kokkalis…. Whose orders were followed by MEGA to cut “Group 57”? What is the use of accepting a “free” offer from Marinakis and MEGA if they cut a part of our parade? One more lesson for the organizers: Never take anything for free – unless you specifically have a say on the editing…
