I was appalled to hear that Democrats, who for the past four years have opened the border to millions of undocumented illegal immigrants, were critical of President Trump’s program to attract wealthy individuals (vetted, of course) to invest their money in America and gain a pathway to citizenship. There is no serious justification for such an atrocious position…
President Donald Trump’s new immigration initiative, the “$5 million Gold Card,” aims to attract wealthy foreign investors to the United States. This program is designed to replace the existing EB-5 visa, which required a minimum investment of $800,000 and the creation of ten U.S. jobs.
The Gold Card offers lawful U.S. residency and a pathway to citizenship for individuals who invest $5 million directly with the U.S. government. The card features President Trump’s image and incorporates design elements reminiscent of U.S. currency. Trump showcased the card aboard Air Force One on April 3, 2025, stating that it would be available to the public within two weeks.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized that applicants will undergo thorough vetting to ensure they are “world-class global citizens.” The administration believes this initiative will stimulate job creation and help reduce the national deficit by attracting investment from ultra-wealthy individuals. This initiative marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy, focusing on economic contributions as a pathway to residency and citizenship. Further details about the Gold Card visa are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

In summary, here are the positive aspects of this:
1. Economic Stimulus:
The program is designed to attract ultra-wealthy individuals who can directly invest $5 million into the U.S. economy.
Unlike the EB-5 visa, which required job creation and third-party investments, this initiative deposits money straight with the federal government—potentially reducing the deficit and funding infrastructure or other priorities.
2. Streamlined Process:
The Gold Card bypasses the job creation requirement and complex regional center system of EB-5, possibly making it more straightforward and appealing to investors.
3. High Standards for Entry:
According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, applicants will undergo rigorous vetting to ensure they are “world-class global citizens,” implying a quality-over-quantity approach.
4. Marketing & Symbolism:
Featuring Trump’s image and styled like U.S. currency, the card has a bold, flashy branding that may appeal to certain international elites and collectors.
In the end, like any other novel idea, the results will prove its success. So far, we cannot verify the news that already one thousand individuals applied. We shall see…

European Union nations have been doing the same thing for decades. Cyprus and Greece are major players in this scheme. You invest a minimum amount and you get the benefits of an EU passport and citizenship. Chinese and Russians have been the main beneficiaries of this method. The problem with Greece and Cyprus is that it raised the value of real estate, to the point where young people can no longer afford to buy their own flat. America, being such a huge nation won’t run out of room, even though there will be need for more home building. The market is tight as it is.
Over all it is not a bad idea.
$5 million is not a small amount… I am very curious to see how many will pay it… People who have this kind of money have many other ways to get US citizenship…
If anyone can afford this, please buy it and help us make America great again. We need all the help we can get.
The US also had an “investor VISA” for decades, set at 1 or 2 million, but it is linked to a condition that at least 10 US -based jobs are created. I concur with Helleniscope’s curiosity about how many people will pay for it, but I am also skeptical about the “type” of person that would pay for it too…this would be quite attractive for corrupt oligarchs or mobsters from around the world, seeking a safe-haven for each of their children while “patience / tolerance for their actions” is running out, and the “noose of their local reality” is tightening around their family in their homeland… I would personally like this list of names to be public, so that we can see how many Greek names affiliated with the legacy Greek ruling class show up…
Trump has all the cards, now that’s the art of the deal!
