Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew paid a “private” visit to the Amarousi-Chalandrio border, in the Polydrossos area.

According to some information, he went to honor the nuns living there and offer assistance to the monasteries. However, other sources report that he met with a Greek official regarding Mount Athos issues.

In any case, Bartholomew is expected to visit Mount Athos in July, while any side has not denied rumors of a rapprochement with the Esphigmenou Monastery.

However, even if these rumors are confirmed, the Patriarch’s… wish that the new Pope Leo XIV continue discussions for a joint Easter celebration between Orthodox and Catholics would certainly not please the Esphigmenites.

However, the Ecumenical Patriarch is expected to visit Rome next Sunday, May 18, for the enthronement of the new Pope and to have a special meeting with him.
