Oxford University archaeology professor Juan de Lara has created a highly impressive three-dimensional digital representation of the Parthenon as it was in 432 BC , when it was built in honor of the goddess Athena, patroness of the city of Athens, combining cutting-edge technology with astronomy and authentic techniques of that era.
As he stated, to complete this specific project, which presents the Parthenon in its prime , he drew on information from primary sources, astronomical data, and advanced CGI technologies, which are used in some of the most popular video games, dedicating four full years of his life to getting as close to reality as possible .
Therefore, his approach was not limited to form, as he drew information from the fields of history, art, and even religious experience, in order to illuminate the function of the temple as a place of faith, admiration, and cultural radiance .
In fact, just as then, at the heart of the temple stands the famous 12-meter-high statue of the goddess Athena , a work of the sculptor Phidias. This masterpiece of art was made of gold and ivory (“chryselephantine”), with techniques of exceptional precision and detail, creating a unique image of power and grandeur.
