EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis) One more of the countless manifestations that the connections between Greek and Russian people are very deep: On May 22, 2025, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova publicly praised Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov by referring to him as “Axios!”— as we all know it means “worthy” or “deserving.” This expression is traditionally used in the Greek Orthodox Church during ordination ceremonies to affirm the worthiness of clergy. She even wrote the word in Greek “Αξιος” in her Telegram channel!!
