I recall the Invasion by Turkey with US Arms on the independent Island of Cyprus on July 20 1974 -over 51 years ago!!
I had just received my Pol. Science Degree at the University of Washington -Seattle WA with emphasis on International Law. The invasion was unnecessary and both Nations of any judicial substance, or any geopolitical responsibility to keep the Turks out of a free Cyprus failed to intervene!! Britain had that Opportunity, so did the Impotent/Kissinger/ Nixon Administration!
They Failed as guarantors of International Treaties from 1960…. to immediately Revoke The illegal Turkish Invasion that today undermines the stability in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The USA- Turkey-Israel are the only 3 Nations that have NOT ratified nor signed The International Law of The Seas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting. Alas the auto-translate to English on Youtube does a terrible job, so I am not able to really understand Avgerinos’s points. I do salute Fidias for putting this issue on the table in the first place and having the guts to travel to Russia despite all the flack he’s catching in the European parliament.
Having also taken great interest in the Cyprus issue the two situations (Cyprus and Ukraine) are not comparable. Yes, you can attempt to find parallels between the political rhetoric of Turkey and Russia (e.g. intervention for protection of a certain group of people) but the facts on the ground in each case are quite different. The situation in Ukraine is in fact a civil war on many levels. The Cyprus situation cannot be called that in any way.
