They were presented to the public for the first time at the military parade in Thessaloniki.

Crowds of people in Thessaloniki , as well as millions of spectators around the world, had the opportunity to see new weapons systems of the Armed Forces which make up the ” Shield of Achilles ” and were presented for the first time at the military parade to celebrate the national anniversary of October 28th .

Within the framework of the Department of Innovation and New Weapon Systems , an initiative that is part of the Ministry of Defense ‘s “Agenda 2030” and the new Deterrence Doctrine, these systems were revealed to the public.

The “Achilles Shield” is a comprehensive protection dome with multiple levels of defense, where cutting-edge technology meets military operational experience.

Unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous marine vehicles, surveillance, communications and network-centric control systems , constitute the cutting edge of a transformation that is leading the Armed Forces into the future.

It is the ” transition of the Greek Armed Forces to the New Era “, as Defense Minister Nikos Dendias pointed out regarding the new weapons systems of the Armed Forces.

Revelations about new weapons systems

  • The TOMA, TOMP armored vehicles brought all kinds of innovations, either low-cost or more sophisticated, to enhance the combat capabilities of the Land Army: A metal mesh above the turret of the Leopard 2A4 tanks. The so-called “cages” or cope cages, which solved and still solve to a certain extent the problem of the first attack by cheap FPV drones with or without optical fiber for guidance.
  • Special VBAT UAV that takes off and lands vertically while flying like a normal aircraft.
  • Unmanned systems of the PN on platforms. In the future, they will fight using the sensor data carried by specialized robotic helicopters.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Schiebel Camcopter S-100, the ALTUS LSA A900 unmanned helicopters, UAVs specifically for maritime surveillance with the participation of a Greek company in the Hellenic Navy procurement program. Helicopters designed and manufactured by Alpha Unmanned Systems in Spain. In the future, they will provide a picture to the commander of a warship from a long distance.
  • New mobile units that have been designed based on the lessons learned from wars in our greater region and are related to command and drone warfare. Either on armored vehicles, or connected to surveillance stations, systems that use radar and cameras in many combinations.
  • The new weapon of the Hellenic Air Force: The Rampage missile which will be certified on the Hellenic Air Force’s F-16 Viper.
  • Meteor missiles, the spearhead of Rafale fighter jets.
  • Scalp missiles.
  • AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missile.
  • SPICE Special Collections: Convert ordinary bombs into guided ones,
  • AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW): The Hellenic Air Force plans to acquire it for the F-16 Viper and the F-35 5th Generation aircraft expected after 2027.
  • The made in Greece Unmanned Aerial Vehicle “Archytas”: A Greek-designed fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that uses leading-edge technological solutions.
  • Drone Orbiter 3: They operate together with the other elements of the Spike NLOS missile system to survey from the air, target and perform target designation with laser systems, while the accompanying UAVs also transmit a high-definition image stream to the units day and night.
  • The Spike systems paraded on special Plasan Sandcat 4X4 350 vehicles.
  • The “made in Greece” anti-drone systems “Kentaurus” and “Hyperion” of the Hellenic Air Force on vehicles. Electronic warfare weapons that will be installed on the four “Hydra” class MEKO-200HN frigates, while it is planned to be installed on the Greek FDI HN frigates as well.
