The meeting, filmed inside the Ben-Gurion Airport complex rather than in a traditional studio, followed several weeks of public back-and-forth between Carlson and Huckabee over claims about how Israel treats its Christian minority and broader U.S. support for the Jewish state. Carlson’s visit was short: he arrived on a private jet, conducted the interview, and departed the same day.
The interview itself was reportedly long, intense, and at times emotional, as Huckabee directly challenged many of Carlson’s assertions on Israel and the Christian community there. Sources present described it as a substantive exchange in which Carlson pressed questions that resonate with many Americans, while Huckabee sought to correct what he viewed as inaccuracies and misconceptions about Israeli policies and U.S.–Israel relations.
The aftermath of the encounter also drew attention: Carlson publicly claimed that he and his team were briefly detained and questioned by Israeli airport security after the interview, an account that Israeli authorities and the U.S. Embassy disputed, describing the interaction as routine questioning rather than a detention.
