EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  I have been monitoring and learning about the mistakes and the betrayals of the Kurds for over 40 years – especially impressive was the work of the late Christopher Hitchens, a very vocal supporter of their cause… Not to mention our Greek friend Savvas Kallenteridis, who was involved in their cause for many years – working for Greek Intelligence…. Just a couple of months ago they were betrayed by the Americans for one more time…

But now, suddenly, reports indicate that Donald Trump is considering a strategy to increase pressure on the government of Iran by potentially supporting armed anti-government groups inside the country. According to media reports, the White House is exploring political—and possibly operational—support for forces that could act as a “ground arm” against Tehran, avoiding a direct U.S. military invasion. Kurdish groups are central to these discussions because they maintain an armed presence near the Iraq–Iran border and could exploit weaknesses in the Iranian regime. Trump has also publicly encouraged Iranians to “take back their country,” suggesting support for internal resistance rather than large-scale American troop deployment. However, U.S. officials say no final decision has been made on providing weapons, intelligence, or training. The idea raises concerns due to the earlier U.S. partnership with Kurdish forces in Syria during the fight against the Islamic State, after which many Kurds felt Washington abandoned them to accommodate Turkey’s security concerns.

The report below by Christos Constantinidis explains the current situation expertly. In this video the author gives an excellent account of their history in the last 100 years explains the countless times they were betrayed… It makes sense to watch this video first…

Trump considers supporting armed groups against Tehran! The Kurds at the center and the specter of “betrayal” in Syria

The White House is examining the possibility of political—and potentially operational—support for forces that could function as a “ground arm” of pressure against the Iranian regime.

By Christos Constantinidis

Scenarios of active support for armed anti-government groups inside Iran are being considered by U.S. President Donald Trump as the confrontation with Tehran escalates.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, the White House is examining the possibility of political—and potentially operational—support for forces that could function as a “ground arm” of pressure against the Iranian regime.

Contacts with Kurds – “The boots on the ground are the Iranians”

According to Axios, Trump spoke on Sunday with Kurdish leaders and continues contacts with local actors who, it is reported, could “exploit Tehran’s weaknesses.” The Kurds maintain a significant armed presence along the Iraq–Iran border, reinforcing assessments that they could play a central role in such a scenario.

In public remarks, the U.S. president has called on Iranians to “take back their country,” implying that Washington politically supports an internal uprising. In an opinion article he reposted on social media, the view is expressed that “there is no need for an American invasion—the Iranians are the boots on the ground,” outlining a doctrine of indirect involvement without a large deployment of U.S. forces.

However, American officials clarify that no final decision has been made regarding the provision of weapons, training, or intelligence to anti-regime organizations.

The shadow of Syria and the term “expired”

At the same time, the discussion of possible support for Kurdish forces brings back the traumatic precedent of Syria. Analyst Diliman Abdulkader notes that the United States formed a military alliance with Syrian Kurds in the fight against ISIS, but later—he claims—abandoned those allies in order to appease Ankara.

Particular attention has been drawn to the reported use of the term “expired” to describe U.S. support for Syrian Kurds when it was deemed politically no longer advantageous.

The question now being raised is clear: what guarantees that a new partnership with Kurdish armed forces in Iran would not end the same way?

Kurdish demands

According to the same statements, Iran’s Kurds—especially in the region of Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan)—appear willing to move against the regime under one condition: clear, written, and internationally guaranteed commitments.

The demands being articulated include:

  • Full, internationally recognized autonomy

  • Access to advanced weapons systems

  • Long-term security guarantees

  • A commitment signed by the U.S. Congress and European governments

In other words, not vague promises but a formally binding institutional framework.

Strategic choice or dangerous gamble?

The option of indirect destabilization through internal armed forces fits into a strategy of limiting U.S. costs by avoiding a ground invasion. However, it is a high-risk model:

  • It could lead to civil-war-like fragmentation within Iran.

  • It may provoke a reaction from Turkey, which maintains a red line against strengthening Kurdish armed structures.

  • It raises uncertainty about the reliability of American guarantees.

The geopolitical equation is further complicated by coordination between Trump and Netanyahu, as Israel has for years advocated regime change in Tehran.

The critical question is not only whether the U.S. will arm groups inside Iran. It is whether it can—and whether it wants to—guarantee what comes afterward. Because in the Middle East, overthrowing a regime is often easier than stabilizing what follows.

And the Kurds, as history shows, do not forget. Recall the related analysis about the nine times the U.S. “betrayed” them.

Το ερώτημα που τίθεται πλέον είναι σαφές: τι διασφαλίζει ότι μια νέα συνεργασία με κουρδικές ένοπλες δυνάμεις στο Ιράν δεν θα έχει την ίδια κατάληξη;

Στρατηγική επιλογή ή επικίνδυνο στοίχημα;

  1. When will the Kurds learn that allying with America means getting abandoned to the meat grinder?

Kurdistan has never existed, and it will never exist.

  2. Supporting the Kurds may lead to Turkey supporting Iran. Turkey with its own Kurdish population will oppose any Kurdish autonomy anywhere. Arming the Azeris also benefits Turkey.
