Elon Musk has escalated his attacks on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, arguing that the film’s casting choices reflect what he called Hollywood’s “DEI obsession” rather than historical or mythological authenticity.

The backlash exploded after reports that Lupita Nyong’o could portray Helen of Troy — one of the most iconic figures in Greek mythology. Critics online argued the production was prioritizing modern political messaging over fidelity to ancient Greek source material. Musk amplified several of those reactions, suggesting Nolan was chasing awards-season approval instead of respecting the cultural roots of the epic.

Coverage from entertainment outlets described Musk as accusing the production of turning a foundational Greek story into another ideological battleground in Hollywood’s diversity wars. Some commentators sympathetic to Musk argued the approach risks alienating audiences who expected a visually and culturally traditional interpretation of Homer’s world.

Recent reporting also notes Musk mocking additional rumored casting decisions and accusing major studios of repeatedly sidelining historical consistency in favor of identity-driven casting trends. Supporters of the film, meanwhile, argue mythology has always been reinterpreted across eras and cultures.

  1. As much as I despise Musk and don’t give a rat’s behind about his opinion, I agree that casting a black actress as Eleni is wrong. Granted, no one knew what Eleni looked like, but the Mycenians were not black, according to DNA. They looked like us, modern Greeks. There is no reason whatsoever to cast Eleni as black, unless there are shortages of suitable actresses to play her. What’s next? Casting a man as Elenni? Why not? I consider myself a liberal but I can’t stand DEI. Not only from Hollywood, but also from Trump’s administration, who’s hiring former part time FOX New2s host in charge of our military, or a washed out Kennedy, who’s half a brain is eaten by worms as head of the government’s health ministry. At least, a black Helen won’t kill us. Hegseth and Kennedy, and Patel and all the others will.

    • Bob, you’re missing the big picture. The reason we got to this insane point is because of Liberalism its bastard offspring Tolerance and Diversity.

Literally speaking, Liberals brought this on themselves. Look at JK Rowling, a very good writer, honest liberal and all-around success story (single mother on welfare, yada, yada). Her creations have turned on her precisely because she’s an honest liberal who believes in free speech.

Tolerance is merely the way-station between two orthodoxies: Christendom and Islam.

To all my liberal friends all I can say is “pick a side.”

  2. Thank God for Elon Musk – despite his inappropriate meltdown on President Trump who’s been so generous.
Musk is great for tearing down lunatic Democrat’s love for destroying all that’s pure & good. Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

    • I agree. While I recognize a subtle goofiness at times from Elon Musk (he’s got Asperger’s), unless you can create a multi-use rocket ship that lands from where it took off, I’d say one is better off not casting aspersions at him.

  3. Can anyone imagine that the NAACP would fund a movie of Mohammed Ali, and Martin Luther King , to be acted by a blue eyed blond WASP- Trump?
