A Proud Moment for Helleniscope: “Summa Cum Laude”!!

ΕΑΝ ΠΡΟΤΙΜΑΤΕ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ ΠΑΤΗΣΤΕ ΤΗ ΣΗΜΑΙΑ ΣΤΟ ΚΑΤΩ ΜΕΡΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΟΘΟΝΗΣ

It was an exceptionally proud moment yesterday as I attended the graduation ceremony of my second-born son, Nicholas, at the Honors College of Stony Brook University — our family’s alma mater and one of the world’s premier science institutions. Just the fact that Stony Brook is a “twin institution” with Brookhaven National Laboratory tells you all you need to know about its status as a science school…

One could also easily recognize the university’s caliber simply by observing the remarkable diversity and academic excellence among its graduates. A very large percentage were Americans of foreign — particularly Asian — descent, reflecting something I have said for many years: America’s future depends greatly on its ability to attract and nurture talented individuals and families who combine deep appreciation for education with the determination to push themselves and their children toward excellence.

Nicholas belongs to this distinguished group. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stony Brook’s Computer Science program, specializing in Artificial Intelligence.

But beyond being a specialist, Nicholas is already emerging as a true star in his field, and I have little doubt that he is destined for a remarkable career at the technological forefront of our era.

I could say much more, but Nicholas himself reminded me yesterday that humility is Christianity’s greatest virtue. Hearing him say that filled me with equal pride, because instilling humility and strong values in my sons has always been one of my most important responsibilities as a father.
