The discussion, however, begins with the announcement of Tsipras’s party. George Charvalias describes the choice of the name “EL.AS.” as extremely unfortunate. “It amounts to exploiting the memory of those who died in the Resistance and shows that Mr. Tsipras is betting on the perpetuation of division.” He believes that the party’s electoral support “has a ceiling” and explains why.
He also comments on the government’s foreign policy and, naturally, discusses German war reparations. George Charvalias is the author of the book YAVOL (Jawohl), which, after achieving tremendous success in Greece, is now set for publication in English as well.

Great interview…Harvalias nails it. This is yet another modern Greek tragedy of an ahistorical ruler: Mitsotakis and his cabal treat Greece’s wounds as diplomatic inconveniences, her dead as negotiating clutter, and her national memory as something to be rewritten for the comfort of foreign masters.
