As a life-long basketball fan (since age 12 – I grew up two blocks away from Panayiotis Giannakis’ home in Nikea, Piraeus, at a time when the whole country was turning from soccer to basketball – with our neighborhood leading the movement), and as a New Yorker, I could not help but watch every second of the historic Knicks finals… Among the most amazing basketball experiences ever!…

We usually do not write about sports in Helleniscope… But when I received the poster above from a very spiritual member of our clergy, I could not resist making this post… After all, Saint Nicholas is our “Ecumenical” Saint, beloved and worshipped by all Christians. And I am sure he had blessed this Knicks team, whose performance exceeded expectations by far in every single game. Some said that the Knicks defied gravity in this NBA Finals series.  I agree…
