An Evening of Theater, Literature, and the Greek Spirit, Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, 2026 | 7:00 PM | Stathakion Center, Astoria, New York
By Nick Stamatakis
The HAP-Queens College and the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis proudly invite the Greek-American community and all lovers of literature and theater to a special cultural evening celebrating one of Greece’s greatest literary figures, Nikos Kazantzakis.
The event will feature “Report to Greco” (Αναφορά στον Γκρέκο), a compelling dramatic monologue performed in Greek by the distinguished actor Takis Chrysikakos, with English supertitles.
Based on Kazantzakis’s profound spiritual autobiography, Report to Greco takes audiences on an extraordinary journey through the author’s life, philosophical struggles, spiritual discoveries, and relentless search for freedom and meaning. Through powerful storytelling and theatrical expression, Chrysikakos brings to life the thoughts and emotions of a writer whose work continues to inspire generations around the world.

For many readers, Kazantzakis is best known for his internationally celebrated novel Zorba the Greek (Βίος και Πολιτεία του Αλέξη Ζορμπά), which introduced the world to the unforgettable character of Alexis Zorba—a man who embraces life with passion, courage, spontaneity, and an unshakable love of freedom.
Yet behind Zorba’s exuberant spirit lies the deeper philosophical world of his creator. In Report to Greco, Kazantzakis reveals the personal struggles, intellectual explorations, and spiritual convictions that shaped his extraordinary literary vision.
If Zorba the Greek celebrates the art of living fully, Report to Greco invites us to discover the restless soul of the man who created him.
This theatrical presentation offers a rare opportunity to experience Kazantzakis not only as a novelist and philosopher but also as a human being engaged in a lifelong quest for truth, self-transcendence, and spiritual freedom.
Through Takis Chrysikakos’s remarkable interpretation, audiences will encounter the enduring voice of a great Greek thinker whose ideas remain as relevant today as when they were first written.
