EDITOR’S NOTE. In a revealing interview with Greece’s ProtoThema, Marco Moreno, a former senior officer of Israel’s elite IDF Unit 504 with 25 years of military intelligence experience, delivers a stark warning: Greece must take the possibility of military conflict with Turkey seriously. Moreno describes President Erdoğan’s regional ambitions as a growing threat to both Greece and Israel, pointing to Turkey’s expanding influence in Syria, its ties to Hamas, and its increasingly confrontational foreign policy.

He urges Greece to strengthen its defenses, deepen strategic cooperation with Israel, and avoid relying solely on NATO guarantees. He also warns of a new battlefield: social media, where disinformation and influence operations increasingly shape public opinion. His central message is clear: Peace cannot be taken for granted, and preparedness is essential.

Quoting the famous line “Winter is coming,” Moreno cautions that Greece must recognize the changing geopolitical landscape before it is too late. Watch the interview below for his assessment of Turkey, the future of Greek-Israeli cooperation, and the security challenges facing the Eastern Mediterranean.

A NOTE OF CAUTION BY HELLENISCOPE: Mr. Moreno says that the Israeli air defense system (which Greece bought) worked.  I take exception to that: A series of reports proved that the Israeli “Iron Dome” was filled with many holes by the Iranian ballistic missiles.  I will stop here – you can form your own opinion. Personally, I think he is attempting to flatter the Greeks to side with Israel…

  1. Anyone who would believe or trust a mossad agent or a Zionist….Greece can not trust either. Greece can’t trust its politicians let alone long time enemies.

  2. Greece cannot save Israel and Israel cannot save Greece. Greece has their hands full dealing with its own internal corruption both politically and church wise. Enabling and encouraging our church to enable the Zelenesky regime and their cronies made the church and the Hellenic Foreign Affairs look really incapable of making wise, informed decisions and strengthened Turkey. I am sure Turkey would have not objected to the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s descision to stay out of the affair with Ukraine and Russia. It will take full reproachment between the US and Russia, Greece and Russia, and the Ecumenical Patriachate to remotely even check Turkish aggression towards Greece. Of course the United States will use Turkey as a resource to exploit their own needs in the region and probably fail.

  3. Mossad has the reputation of being pro-active and knowing more about their enemies, than their enemies know about themselves.
That kind of “fame” gives them a gravitas that other agencies do not have. Even the CIA is not as experienced as Mossad. Does that make that agent’s “prediction” more believable than what Greeks already know? I think it goes deeper than that. Israel has been selling military hardware to Greece. They want to sell more. Especially defensive missiles. Retired Mossad agents are known to find employment with arms manufacturers. Scaremongering goes a long way in selling weapons.

Yes, Greece does need to be on the alert. After the financial crisis, she has been on a buying spree of new hardware and even producing her own drones. She needs to concentrate on her own weapon manufacturing as much as possible. Dendias is a capable defense minister and has done some great work equipping Greece and upgrading her armed forces. .

  4. Israel is like a nasty kid thrashing out at the world. Israel needs some psychotherapy. FAST. I hope the citizens of Israel wake up.
