EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  The article below was published in “Orthodoxi Alithia” and republished today in Orthodoxtimes.com – a website completely controlled by the Constantinople Patriarchate (and at least initially financed by the State Dept.) It makes a lame effort to convince us that Met. Emmanuel of Chalcedon (also known to all of us as “Emmanuella” because of his scandalous affairs in Paris) is responsible for the ecclesiastical chaos in Ukraine, where (if we believe the author – in this case, we don’t) the Patriarch opposes the approval of law 8731 by the Ukrainian Parliament, which would outlaw UOC led by Met. Onufriy, truly a holy man… On the other side, Met. Emmanuel, the “Foreign Minister” of the Phanar and the person in charge of Ukraine, does support this law, follows his own personal policies and has failed to bring together the UOC and the OCU (led by the “autocephalous” Met. Epiphanios.  Helleniscope has been writing about these issues for many years and would like to clarify the following:

• Bartholomew is solely responsible for the mess in Ukraine’s religious affairs.  He was the one who was bribed (with a vast amount, allegedly over $20 million) to give autocephaly to the minority church of OCU while 70% of the faithful were following Metropolitan Onufriy and UOC.
• We have repeatedly reported that after every trip to Kiev (almost once a month), Metropolitan Emmanuel leaves with a suitcase full of cash and goes directly to Switzerland to deposit it into a joint account he maintains with Patriarch Bartholomew. 
•  Bartholomew was explicitly warned by many (including some diplomats) that his granting the “tomos” of autocephaly to Ukraine would cause violence. He ignored all the warnings, and now he reaps the results of his misguided and anti-canonical actions.
• Recently, Bartholomew has seen Russia’s victory over Ukraine approaching and is now trying to escape the inescapable disaster of his own decisions and actions: His first instinct is to blame Metropolitan Emmanuel and make him responsible for all his mistakes in Ukraine. No matter what Bartholomew does, the whole responsibility belongs to him.
• Metropolitan Emmanuel is NOT going to be the next Patriarch. He lost ALL his chances with the Paris scandals, which involved him personally. The Paris Police Report on the “Bulgarian Gay Escort Scandal” will hang over his head forever. He will, however, try to achieve as much as he can from the #2 position in the Phanar. Being self-indulgent, arrogant, egotistical, and self-centered to the maximum, he will concentrate as much power and money as possible in his hands.
• No matter how much some “journalists” try to save Bartholomew’s skin, he will pass down to history as the worst Patriarch of the last two centuries and the one who destroyed Orthodoxy, causing a schism to serve alien political goals.

Metropolitan of Chalcedon’s Personal Agenda In Kyiv

Great leaders often surround themselves with wise advisers. The Ecumenical Patriarch has proven to be a pivotal leader. In the Ukrainian issue, it appears he’s run out… of (wise) advisers.

Five years after granting autocephaly to Ukraine, the wound remains unhealed. The two Churches are de facto divided. Those close to Epifaniy, Onufriy, and the Zelensky government do not mince their words.

“The Patriarch brought in Emmanuel of Chalcedon to defuse the situation, but instead, he’s created dozens of problems,” they all agree. Interestingly, all parties involved seem to agree as well.

The Patriarch has given carte blanche on the “Ukraine” portfolio to the Elder Metropolitan of Chalcedon. In Ukraine, however, he is accused of pursuing “personal agendas.”

The “next Patriarch”

Every time the Metropolitan of Chalcedon visits Kyiv, he travels in an official car equipped with a security light, accompanied by two state security vehicles and an ambulance. This is because some high-ranking hierarchs of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine “present” Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel as the certain successor to the Phanar. Behind the scenes, they urge the government to accord him the same level of respect and treatment, which is why he receives comparable honors and safety measures.

Despite the accolades and honors, no tangible results have been delivered. Five years ago, by order of the Patriarch, the Metropolitan of Chalcedon was tasked with implementing the provisions of the Tomos: unifying the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the new Church.

Five years later, it is said that the Metropolitan of Chalcedon is no longer aligning with the Patriarch’s direction. This is particularly evident in the ongoing support for Bill 8371, which seeks to abolish the Church of Onufriy.

The Ecumenical Patriarch considers the bill unbeneficial, while Zelensky is frustrated that the Churches have not found a way to communicate in his country. In the meeting between Metropolitan Emmanuel and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Metropolitan endorsed Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva’s statement that, although the bill has “issues,” “they will soon be resolved.”

Obstacles

Almost six years after the unification council in Ukraine, the Metropolitan of Chalcedon has yet to meet with a representative of Metropolitan Onufriy’s Church.

On the contrary, it has also complicated matters for Bishop Michael of Komana, the Exarch of the Patriarchate and representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Kyiv. Always with the assistance of Metropolitan Yevstratiy, the right-hand man of Epifaniy.

The policy of Emmanuel of Chalcedon is well-known both in Kyiv and across the provinces of the Ecumenical Throne. “We question whether the Patriarch is fully aware of what Emmanuel is doing in Kyiv,” says a person deeply familiar with the situation in Ukraine.

“The only information the Patriarch reportedly receives comes from the reports provided by the Metropolitan of Chalcedon,” he adds.

A typical example is when, a few months ago, a delegation from the Phanar was scheduled to visit Kyiv. This visit never occurred, with the Ukrainians putting forward technical or security reasons.

However, it is rumored that Emmanuel, along with Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva, ensured that this visit did not occur—at least for now.

Οι μεγάλοι ηγέτες έχουν δίπλα τους, συνήθως, σοφούς συμβούλους. Ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης αποδεδειγμένα είναι ηγετική φυσιογνωμία. Στο Ουκρανικό δείχνει να έχει… ξεμείνει από (σοφούς) συμβούλους.

Πέντε χρόνια αφού έδωσε την αυτοκεφαλία στην Ουκρανία η πληγή παραμένει χαίνουσα. Οι δύο Εκκλησίες είναι ντε φάκτο διχασμένες. Πρόσωπα που είναι κοντά στον Επιφάνιο, τον Ονούφριο και την κυβέρνηση Ζελένσκι δεν μασούν τα λόγια τους.

«Ο Πατριάρχης έχει φέρει τον Χαλκηδόνος Εμμανουήλ να εκτονώσει την κατάσταση και έχει δημιουργήσει δεκάδες προβλήματα», λένε με μια φωνή. Κατά περίεργο τρόπο το ίδιο υποστηρίζουν όλες οι εμπλεκόμενες πλευρές.

Το χαρτοφυλάκιο «Ουκρανία» ο Πατριάρχης το έχει δώσει να χειριστεί εν λευκώ ο Γέρων Χαλκηδόνος. Στην Ουκρανία όμως τον κατηγορούν πως έχει «προσωπικές ατζέντες».

Ο «επόμενος Πατριάρχης»

Κάθε φορά που ο Χαλκηδόνος επισκέπτεται το Κίεβο κυκλοφορεί με αυτοκίνητο με “φάρο”, συνοδευόμενο από δύο άλλα οχήματα της κρατικής ασφάλειας και ένα ασθενοφόρο. Κι αυτό γιατί μερικοί υψηλόβαθμοι ιεράρχες της αυτοκέφαλης Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας της Ουκρανίας «συστήνουν» τον Γέροντα Εμμανουήλ ως τον σίγουρο επόμενο διάδοχο στο Φανάρι. Παρασκηνιακά ζητούν από την κυβέρνηση να του επιδεικνύει την ίδια αντιμετώπιση. Γι’ αυτό οι τιμές και τα μέτρα ασφαλείας.

Πέρα από τις δόξες και τιμές όμως αποτέλεσμα δεν έχει φανεί. Ο Μητροπολίτης Χαλκηδόνος, με εντολή του Πατριάρχη, ανέλαβε πριν πέντε χρόνια να φέρει σε πέρας αυτό που προέβλεπε ο Τόμος: την ένωση των Ουκρανών Ορθοδόξων κάτω από τη νέα Εκκλησία.

Πέντε χρόνια μετά, ο Χαλκηδόνος δεν ακολουθεί, λένε, την ίδια γραμμή με αυτή του Πατριάρχη. Αυτό φαίνεται κυρίως στην στήριξη που συνεχίζει να δείχνει στο νομοσχέδιο 8371, που αφορά στην κατάργηση της Εκκλησίας του Ονουφρίου.

Ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης δεν θεωρεί επωφελές το νομοσχέδιο και ο Ζελένσκι φέρεται εκνευρισμένος που δεν τα βρίσκουν οι Εκκλησίες στη χώρα του. Στη συνάντηση που είχε προ ημερών ο Εμμανουήλ Χαλκηδόνος με τον πρωθυπουργό της Ουκρανίας Ντένις Σμίγκαλ, υποστήριξε ό,τι και ο Μητροπολίτης Μπίλα Τσέρκβα Ευστράτιος: ότι ναι μεν το νομοσχέδιο έχει “θέματα”, αλλά «σύντομα θα τακτοποιηθούν».

Τρικλοποδιές

Έξι σχεδόν χρόνια μετά την ενωτική σύνοδο στην Ουκρανία, ο Μητροπολίτης Χαλκηδόνος δεν έχει καταφέρει μια συνάντηση με εκπρόσωπο της Εκκλησίας του Μητροπολίτη Ονουφρίου.

Αντιθέτως, δυσκολεύει και τη ζωή του εκπροσώπου του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη στο Κίεβο, του Εξάρχου του Πατριαρχείου Επισκόπου Κομάνων κ. Μιχαήλ. Με τη βοήθεια πάντα του Μητροπολίτη Ευστράτιου, δεξιού χεριού του Επιφανίου.

Η πολιτική του Χαλκηδόνος Εμμανουήλ είναι γνωστή στο Κίεβο και στις επαρχίες του οικουμενικού θρόνου. «Αμφιβάλλουμε αν ο Πατριάρχης έχει γνώση των όσων πράττει ο Εμμανουήλ στο Κίεβο», αναφέρει πρόσωπο με βαθιά γνώση της κατάστασης στην Ουκρανία.

«Μόνη πληροφόρηση που φέρεται να παίρνει ο Πατριάρχης είναι από τις αναφορές που του δίνει ο Μητροπολίτης Χαλκηδόνος», προσθέτει.

Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα είναι πως πριν από λίγους μήνες αντιπροσωπεία από το Φανάρι επρόκειτο να επισκεφθεί το Κίεβο. Αυτή η επίσκεψη δεν έγινε ποτέ, με τους Ουκρανούς να επικαλούνται τεχνικούς λόγους ή λόγους ασφάλειας.

Ψιθυρίζεται ωστόσο, λένε οι ίδιες πηγές, ότι ο κ. Εμμανουήλ μαζί με τον Μητροπολίτη Μπίλα Τσέρκβα Ευστράτιο φρόντισαν ώστε να μη γίνει – τουλάχιστον τώρα – αυτή η επίσκεψη.
