‘Gold Bar Bob’ Menendez negotiating pardon from Biden for leaving Senate race: sources
Disgraced Democratic Senator Robert Menendez is scheduled to resign from office Tuesday, and is negotiating a pardon from Joe Biden before the president leaves office at the end of the year, according to political analysts and longtime associates of the New Jersey lawmaker.
Menendez’ was convicted last month on 16 felony counts of bribery and corruption for accepting cash and gold in exchange for using his powerful post to enrich and protect three businessmen and the Egyptian and Qatari governments.
“He’s likely trying to get a pardon or a reduction in his sentence,” said a New Jersey political operative who did not want to be identified.
“Bob Menendez doesn’t do things without getting something back, and at this point I would think he would want to get out of the way to spare his kids the embarrassment, and maybe even help his wife.”
I can’t see it happening before the elections. No matter when it happens though, it would be a terrible move on Biden’s part. Biden’s legacy would be negatively affected. The democrats criticized Trump and rightly so, for pardoning a whole bunch of criminals of his administration.
Menendez’s wife is certainly a bimbo. But he’s not that innocent either. Don’t forget that he got away with a hung jury the last time. He should have learned his lesson and take his hand out of the cookie jar. It looks like he saw the first trial as a portend of getting away again.
Having said that, the loss of Menendez is a huge blow against Greece and Cyprus. It is time consuming and not easy to cultivate a senator that also serves on the arms committee, as Menendez did.
