Stony Brook Greek Studies Center Celebrates OXI Day

EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  For one more year Stony Brook Greek Studies Center, honored the Greek National Day of “OXI” with a beautiful event at the Students Activities Center, in the presence of many students and community members. Stella Tsirka (main photo and below) was at the helm and did an inclusive narration of the events of October 28, 1940 and beyond, including the catastrophic German occupation of Greece which cost the lives of 10% of the population – about 800.000 people. As is customary in such events, poetry, singing, dancing, and food completed the evening.

Stony Brook is my graduate alma mater, and I have many memories, as some 35-39 years ago, I was part of a similar Club. To see my second-born son, Nicholas, perform and dance, among so many other students, was an emotional experience. Below, you can see a short video of him singing a song.
