EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). Who was behind the assassination of the first Governor of Greece and leader of the 1821 Revolution against the Ottomans? Would Greece be different if Kapodistrias were not assassinated? What was Kapodistrias’ secret plan for Greece – as revealed by the records of his mortal rival, Metternich? Is this secret plan why some people ate undermining the film and criticizing it before it’s even finished? Why, still today, does the British Foreign Office keep the file on Kapodistrias’ assassination classified? These are just a few questions that will be answered in the director of the movie “Kapodistrias” Giannis Smaragdis, in a live speech via zoom on Sunday 4pm in Kefalos in Astoria (20-41 Steinway St, New York, New York 11105).
It will also be an excellent occasion for all of us in the Greek American community to unite at this critical historical juncture and unite, in the memory of Kapodistrias and the memory of two great Greek-Americans, Nicos Mouyiaris and Vangelis Papathanassiou. Both were close to Giannis Smaragdis, were part of the early conception of the Kapodistrias movie, and actively supported it.
