It does not matter if George Tsunis proposed to Marinakis to become a Grand Marshall – Tsunis has embarrassed our community (link here), and we cannot trust his judgment. Should we forget his many missteps – and the fact he took part along with Akis Bourla and Alexis Patelis in a “Pride Parade”? Was this the place for an American Ambassador to promote the “woke” agenda? We can’t wait for Kimberly…
Everybody else who pushes for Marinakis has a personal interest in mind, and they are not working for the common good. I explained a few days ago: Just last month, the DA in Greece started a racketeering investigation against Vangelis Marinakis, while in the past, he was involved in the infamous drug smuggling case of the ship “Noor 1”. Does Marinakis seem to be someone we should honor? Not to mention that he was known to be the Mitsotakis Family “cashier” for years… And some notable community members were seen visiting his office to “collect” cash… His relations with Mitsotakis have not been that good recently. The NY Times published a substantial negative piece about Marinakis in early November (link here). Should I go on? There is a lot more…
Are we out of our minds? Will we invite someone who is currently under criminal investigation for racketeering? Will Elpidophoros sit next to him? Frankly, I will not be surprised – he will prove forever that he is all about money!!! But this is not about just one investigation. I was born in Pireaus, and spent the best years of my young life there, and I know what Olympiakos means for Pireaus and Greece. If we are going to celebrate Olympiacos’ 100 years, let’s invite a few soccer stars, current or veterans!! I will never forget that every Good Friday morning, the famous soccer match (still happening today!) between the veterans of Olympiacos and Proodeftiki (“Βραδυποριακός” εναντίον “Ταλαιπωριακού”), in the soccer field just a few yards from my house!! If people were going to a soccer match instead of Church on Good Friday morning, you can imagine how important it was!.. Then bring the soccer stars!! But Vangelis Marinakis should stay in Pireaus!
Some idiots (we have plenty in our community) asked me breathlessly: “Why? Why? Didn’t we bring Ivan Savvides a few years ago?” Yes, we invited Ivan Savvides, and I believe he was the Grand Marshall in 2017. But was he under criminal investigation? No, of course not. Not only wasn’t he under investigation, but a few years earlier, he had managed a tremendous feat: He asked President Putin to intervene with Erdogan, and Panagia Soumela in Pontos re-opened after 100 years!! It was the most significant advancement of the Patriarchate’s religious freedoms in over a century!! All the Archons and Karloutsos and State Dept’s interventions could not do “diddly squat” for decades, and the Halki Theological School has been closed since 1972 and is still closed today. Ivan Savvides did.
Yes, the late Galatoulas took advantage of his money – we all have heard the stories… And Savvides, like other billionaires, may not have had “clean hands.” Do we know of any billionaire who has clean hands? There is none. But this is not the question. The question is not to be under a criminal investigation. The fact that George Tsunis asked him to be a Grand Marshall, knowing about the criminal investigation, proves, once again, the “low IQ” and moral character of Tsunis.

How cool is that!! This is the kind of people we would like to see as Grand Marshalls!! Not people who are investigated for racketeering!
