Students Of Ikaron School Raised the Greek Flag Outside Hagia Sophia! (EN-GR)

EDITOR’S NOTE.  Some have said in recent years that globalization and modernization have quelled the feelings of ethnicity among the Greeks, but as someone who spent a few precious years studying “ethnic identity” issues, I can assure you that this is not true.  These feelings may have calmed down, but it takes just a spark to re-ignite them!! Icaron School is the Military Academy for Fighter Pilots, where the “best and brightest” enroll… They have proved their tremendous skills over the years in many airshows against the best in the business, including pilots of the USAF!! The other day, they proved their patriotic feelings in an unmistakable way outside Hagia Sophia in Constantinople!!

Turkish police arrested students of the Ikaron School for raising Greek flags outside Hagia Sophia!

Daring students of the Ikaron School were handcuffed last Saturday by the police authorities of Istanbul .

According to information, the students, of whom the three Greeks and the three Cypriots, had holiday leave and were in Istanbul.

There, proceeding in a movement of patriotism, they went to Hagia Sophia and raised Greek flags !

The incident was noticed by the Turkish authorities with the result that, as sources say, four of them were arrested while the fifth managed to escape as he was at a greater distance. The fate of the sixth person is not known.

The Greek consulate and the competent diplomatic authorities were informed of the incident and they proceeded with all the required actions. Finally, the brave young “Icarians” were released. 

The incident doesn’t seem to have gotten any bigger.

However, it is likely that the six students will go through a disciplinary process and give an explanation as they had to inform and obtain permission to travel abroad.

The Cretan dance outside Hagia Sophia

A few days earlier, well-known lyre player Yiannis Giannakakis sent shivers of emotion , as he posted a video of the six Cretans dancing outside Hagia Sophia .

He and five other men from Chania and Rethymnon who traveled to Istanbul last Friday participated. When they found themselves outside Hagia Sophia, the five Cretans danced a trot.

The six Cretans who participated were Yiannis Giannakakis, Giorgos Xenakis, Michalis Lymakis, Nikos Lagoudakis, Stelios Gasparakis, while the video that captured the moment was recorded by Yiannis Georgalis.

Τούρκοι αστυνομικοί συνέλαβαν σπουδαστές της Σχολής Ικάρων γιατί ύψωσαν ελληνικές σημαίες έξω από την Αγία Σοφία!

Χειροπέδες σε τολμηρούς σπουδαστές της Σχολής Ικάρων πέρασαν το περασμένο Σάββατο οι αστυνομικές αρχές της Κωνσταντινούπολης.

Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, οι σπουδαστές, εκ των οποίων οι τρεις Έλληνες και οι τρεις Κύπριοι, είχαν εορταστική άδεια και βρέθηκαν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη.

Εκεί, προχωρώντας σε μια κίνηση πατριωτισμού, πήγαν στην Αγία Σοφία και ύψωσαν ελληνικές σημαίες!

Το συμβάν έγινε αντιληπτό από τις τουρκικές αρχές με αποτέλεσμα, όπως αναφέρουν πηγές, να συλληφθούν οι τέσσερις από αυτούς ενώ ο πέμπτος κατάφερε να διαφύγει καθώς βρισκόταν σε πιο μακρινή απόσταση. Δεν έχει γίνει γνωστή η τύχη του έκτου ατόμου.

Για το περιστατικό ενημερώθηκε το ελληνικό προξενείο και οι αρμόδιες διπλωματικές αρχές και προχώρησαν σε όλες τις απαιτούμενες ενέργειες. Τελικά, οι γενναίοι νεαροί «Ίκαροι» αφέθηκαν ελεύθεροι. 

Το συμβάν δεν φαίνεται να έχει πάρει μεγαλύτερες διαστάσεις.

Ωστόσο, πιθανότατα οι έξι σπουδαστές θα περάσουν πειθαρχική διαδικασία και να δώσουν εξηγήσεις καθώς έπρεπε να ενημερώσουν και να λάβουν άδεια για να ταξιδέψουν στο εξωτερικό.

Ο κρητικός χορός έξω από την Αγία Σοφία

Λίγες ημέρες νωρίτερα, ρίγη συγκίνησης σκόρπισε ο γνωστός λυράρης Γιάννης Γιαννακάκης, καθώς ανάρτησε  βίντεο με τον χορό των έξι Κρητικών έξω από την Αγιά Σοφιά.

Συμμετείχαν ο ίδιος και άλλοι πέντε άνδρες από τα Χανιά και το Ρέθυμνο που ταξίδεψαν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη την περασμένη Παρασκευή. Όταν βρέθηκαν έξω από την Αγιά Σοφιά οι πέντε Κρητικοί χόρεψαν συρτό.

Οι έξι Κρητικοί που συμμετείχαν ήταν οι Γιάννης Γιαννακάκης, Γιώργος Ξενάκης, Μιχάλης Λυμάκης, Νίκος Λαγουδάκης, Στέλιος Γασπαράκης, ενώ το βίντεο που αποτύπωσε τη στιγμή κατέγραψε ο Γιάννης Γεωργαλής.
