EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis) A new turmoil around the Tempi victims is brewing in Greece, this time involving the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Yesterday, Metropolitan of Iconium Theoliptos made on his FB account a despicable statement against Maria Karystianou, the president of the Tempi Victims Association (please link here). Patriarch Bartholomew, who is recently feeling tremendous pressure from his huge failures in Ukraine and in all his globalist policies, and clearly sees a disastrous end of his tenure as the Trump effect is sweeping the globe, made a very positive statement in supoport of Maria Karystianou (see below), and rebuked Theoliptos asking him to publicly apologize….
We are still waiting AB Elpidophoros and Met. Apostolos to issue similar statements in support of Maria Karystianou – possibly insisting that she is invited to our Parade… similarly they should come out publicly against the unethical invitation of Vangelis Marinakis… What else do they expect to see?
When, on February 28, two million people gather in all the cities and towns of Greece, protesting corruption and seeking Justice, nothing will save those opposing the huge tsunami of support for change.

Intervention of the Ecumenical Patriarch after a post allegedly made by Metropolitan Theoliptos of Iconium – “To make amends as soon as possible and publicly apologize”

“No one has the right to insult a grieving mother, every mother, every father, who wants to know what happened that night in Tempi, and for Justice to be served for the unjust death of their child, or relative, or friend, or fellow student,” emphasized Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, referring to the offensive statements allegedly made by a metropolitan of the Ecumenical Patriarchate against Maria Karystianou
“The Mother Church and I personally could never associate ourselves with the extremely offensive views, such as those that saw the light of day on the Internet and which were allegedly formulated by a Hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, with frivolity and multiplicity,” noted Mr. Bartholomew, after the Great Vespers in the Patriarchal Church of St. George, at the end of which he welcomed a group of teachers and students from the 10th Lyceum of Katerini.
“To publicly apologize”
“If the alleged archpriest of the Mother Church expressed these thoughts, which are attributed to him, then he must make amends as soon as possible and publicly apologize to all those whom he offended and embittered.”
In detail, referring to the post allegedly made by Metropolitan Theoliptos of Iconium, which is published in a section of the Greek press, provoking reactions, the Ecumenical Patriarch stated:
“In a few days, two years will have passed since the shameful day of the tragic accident in Tempi, where 57 of our fellow human beings, among them many young children, like you, tragically lost their lives, and many others were injured.
“I will never forget that morning how much the tragic news shocked me, like everyone else. My thoughts went to the parents, to the relatives of the victims. To all those who were waiting to see their children, their parents, their loved ones get off the train, but they never arrived. They did not call them upon arrival. Silence. Mourning. Unspeakable tragedy.
“That morning, during the Divine Liturgy of the Pre-Holy Ones, which I officiated here, in the Patriarchal Church, I prayed to the Lord for the repose of the souls of the victims, for the support and comfort as much as possible of their relatives and for the speedy recovery of the many injured. I also contacted Her Excellency the President of the Republic, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, and expressed to her my shock and the condolences and sympathy of the Mother Church, our Ecumenical Patriarchate.
»A few months later, on my way to Volos, where I was to visit the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and Almyros, I stood at the site of the tragic accident and sang a Trisagion for the victims, and expressed my condolences in person to relatives of some of the victims. His Holiness the Metropolitan of Larissa, in whose district this accident site is located, was with me.
»Since then, I have always had in my prayers the 57 victims, their relatives, but also all those who are in any way affected by this unspeakable tragedy, which continues to shock Hellenism everywhere, which anxiously awaits, we all await, the officials of Justice, who are unquestionably responsible, to shed light, as those competent in the matter, on every aspect of this case.
»Therefore, the Mother Church and I personally could never identify with the extremely offensive views, such as those that saw the light of day on the Internet, yesterday, today, and which were allegedly formulated by a hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, with frivolity and multiplicity. No one has the right to insult a grieving mother, every mother, every father, who wants to know what happened that night in Tempe, and for Justice to be served for the unjust death of their child, or relative, or friend, or fellow student.
»If, despite hope, the alleged High Priest of the Mother Church did indeed express these thoughts attributed to him, then he must make amends as soon as possible and publicly apologize to all those whom he offended and embittered.
»The Mother Church and the Patriarch will continue to be spiritually at the side of the families of the victims, and of every person affected by this tragedy. But also at the side of the families of the victims of the other tragic accidents that occurred in previous years in Tempe, with victims being students and very young people.
“Eternal memory to all! And you, and all of us, may we remember them, commemorate them and pray for their repose, and that God may give strength and comfort to their loved ones.”

«Η Μήτηρ Εκκλησία και εγώ προσωπικά δεν θα μπορούσαμε ποτέ να συνταυτιστούμε με τις άκρως προσβλητικές απόψεις, όπως αυτές που είδαν το φως της δημοσιότητος στο Διαδίκτυο και τις οποίες φέρεται να διατύπωσε ένας Ιεράρχης του Οικουμενικού Θρόνου, με επιπολαιότητα και πολυπραγμοσύνη», σημείωσε ο κ. Βαρθολομαίος, μετά τον Μεγάλο Εσπερινό στον Πατριαρχικό Ναό του Αγίου Γεωργίου, στο τέλος του οποίου καλωσόρισε όμιλο Καθηγητών και μαθητών από το 10ο Λύκειο της Κατερίνης.
«Να ζητήσει δημόσια συγγνώμη»
«Εάν ο φερόμενος αρχιερεύς της Μητρός Εκκλησίας διατύπωσε αυτές τις σκέψεις, που αποδίδονται σε αυτόν, τότε οφείλει να επανορθώσει το ταχύτερο δυνατόν και να ζητήσει δημόσια συγγνώμη από όλους εκείνους τους οποίους προσέβαλε και πίκρανε».
Αναλυτικά, αναφερόμενος στην ανάρτηση που φέρεται αν έχει κάνει ο Μητροπολίτης Ικονίου Θεόληπτος, η οποία δημοσιεύεται σε μερίδα του ελληνικού Τύπου προκαλώντας αντιδράσεις, ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης δήλωσε:
«Σε λίγες ημέρες συμπληρώνονται δύο χρόνια από την αποφράδα ημέρα του τραγικού δυστυχήματος στα Τέμπη, όπου 57 συνάνθρωποί μας, ανάμεσά τους πολλά νέα παιδιά, σαν και εσάς, έχασαν τη ζωή τους κατά τρόπο τραγικό, και πάρα πολλοί άλλοι τραυματίστηκαν.
»Δεν θα ξεχάσω εκείνο το πρωινό πόσο με συγκλόνισε, όπως και όλους, η τραγική είδηση. Οι σκέψεις μου πήγαν στους γονείς, στους συγγενείς των θυμάτων. Σε όλους εκείνους που περίμεναν να δουν τα παιδιά τους, τους γονείς τους, τους οικείους τους να κατεβαίνουν από το τρένο, αλλά δεν έφτασαν ποτέ. Δεν τους πήραν τηλέφωνο φτάνοντας. Σιωπή. Θρήνος. Ανείπωτη τραγωδία.
»Εκείνο το πρωινό, κατά τη Θεία Λειτουργία των Προηγιασμένων, που χοροστάτησα εδώ, στον Πατριαρχικό Ναό, προσευχήθηκα προς τον Κύριο για την ανάπαυση των ψυχών των θυμάτων, για την στήριξη και την παραμυθία όσο αυτό ήταν δυνατόν των συγγενών τους και για την ταχεία αποκατάσταση της υγείας των πολλών τραυματιών. Επικοινώνησα και με την Εξοχότατη Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας την κυρία Σακελλαροπούλου και της εξέφρασα τον συγκλονισμό μου και τα συλλυπητήρια και την συμπάθεια της Μητρός Εκκλησίας, του Οικουμενικού μας Πατριαρχείου.
»Μερικούς μήνες αργότερα, καθ’ οδόν για τον Βόλο, όπου θα επισκεπτόμουν την Ιερά Μητρόπολη Δημητριάδος και Αλμυρού, στάθηκα στο σημείο του τραγικού δυστυχήματος και έψαλα τρισάγιο για τα θύματα, και εξέφρασα τα συλλυπητήριά μου διά ζώσης σε συγγενείς κάποιων εκ των θυμάτων. Ήταν μαζί μου και ο ιερώτατος Μητροπολίτης Λαρίσης, στου οποίου την περιοχή είναι αυτό το σημείο του δυστυχήματος.
»Έκτοτε πάντοτε έχω στις προσευχές μου τα 57 θύματα, τους συγγενείς τους, αλλά και όλους όσοι καθ’ οιονδήποτε τρόπο δοκιμάζονται από την ανείπωτη αυτή τραγωδία, που εξακολουθεί να συγκλονίζει τον απανταχού Ελληνισμό, ο οποίος με αγωνία προσβλέπει, προσβλέπουμε όλοι μας, στους λειτουργούς της Δικαιοσύνης, οι οποίοι είναι αδέκαστοι, να φωτίσουν, ως οι καθ’ ύλην αρμόδιοι, κάθε πτυχή της υπόθεσης αυτής.
»Ως εκ τούτου, η Μήτηρ Εκκλησία και εγώ προσωπικά δεν θα μπορούσαμε ποτέ να συνταυτιστούμε με τις άκρως προσβλητικές απόψεις, όπως αυτές που είδαν το φως της δημοσιότητος στο Διαδίκτυο, χθες, σήμερα, και τις οποίες φέρεται να διατύπωσε ένας ιεράρχης του Οικουμενικού Θρόνου, με επιπολαιότητα και πολυπραγμοσύνη. Κανένας δεν δικαιούται να προσβάλει μία χαροκαμένη μάνα, την κάθε μάνα, τον κάθε πατέρα, που θέλει να μάθει τί συνέβη εκείνο το βράδυ στα Τέμπη, και να αποδοθεί η Δικαιοσύνη για τον άδικο θάνατο του παιδιού του, ή του συγγενούς, ή του φίλου, ή του συμφοιτητού του.
»Εάν, παρ᾽ ελπίδα, όντως ο φερόμενος Αρχιερεύς της Μητρός Εκκλησίας διατύπωσε αυτές τις σκέψεις, που αποδίδονται σε αυτόν, τότε οφείλει να επανορθώσει το ταχύτερο δυνατόν και να ζητήσει δημόσια συγγνώμη από όλους εκείνους τους οποίους προσέβαλε και πίκρανε.
»Η Μήτηρ Εκκλησία και ο Πατριάρχης θα συνεχίσουν να βρίσκονται πνευματικώς στο πλευρό των οικογενειών των θυμάτων, και κάθε ανθρώπου που τον επηρέασε αυτή η τραγωδία. Αλλά και στο πλευρό των οικογενειών των θυμάτων των άλλων τραγικών δυστυχημάτων που συνέβησαν τα προηγούμενα χρόνια στα Τέμπη, με θύματα μαθητές και πολύ νέους ανθρώπους.
»Αιωνία η μνήμη όλων! Και εσείς, και όλοι μας, να τους θυμούμαστε, να τους μνημονεύουμε και να προσευχόμαστε για την ανάπαυσή τους, και για να δίδει ο Θεός δύναμη και παρηγοριά στους οικείους τους».
