Every year, the Mayor of New York celebrates Greek Independence by inviting the community to his house, Gracie Mansion, for a night of awards, speeches, and dinner… And so it happened again with Mayor Eric Adams welcoming the Archbishop and the three honorees: Margo Catsimatides, Bishop Nektarios of Diokleias, and Dimitris G. Kalamaras.
Dimitris Kalamaras stole the show, not simply because of his heartfelt speech but because of the atrocious act of the “sidewalk” side of the Federation. “Nomiki and the Orangutans,” by issuing a malicious letter to the Mayor’s Office asking them to reconsider honoring Mr. Kalamaras”, disgraced themselves and our community.
Their move backfired, and there is now unanimous agreement in the community that “Nomiki and the Orangutans: 1) Have no place in the Parade and the Federation’s organization. 2) There will be no more efforts to unify the two sides – it’s pointless. “Nomiki and the Orangutans” cannot be dealt with. Period. 3) All organizations, the new ones and those who have left in years past have to join the Federation in a General Assembly meeting to be held on April 9 at Stathakeion, as we just learned by Dimitris Kalamaras.
