Sometimes, we have to raise our hands to the sky and quit trying to explain human actions. The decision by the “Archons” to honor Mike Pompeo is such an instance. Why? 1) President Trump loudly dismissed Mike Pompeo the first few days after his election last November. 2) President Trump is in the process of rapprochement with President Putin and Russia, a process that Pompeo is allergic to. Not only is he allergic to anything except the destruction of Russia, but he symbolizes and personifies the anti-Russia campaign!! We recently learned that Patriarch Bartholomew will visit America in the fall, presumably to connect with the new administration in DC. Does honoring “pompous” Pompeo help AT ALL in this goal? Do the Archons know something we do not?
Or should we again revert to “The Lord makes fools of those he wants to destroy?”
There are two possible avenues in Ukraine: First, the peace negotiations will succeed, and a treaty will be signed between the US and Russia after the change of government in Kiev. Second, Russia will solve the problem on the ground by this summer by continuing its rapid military advancement along the 1,000-mile frontline. There is NO third avenue, at least not a rational one. Going to nuclear war will be the end of humanity.
No matter which of the above two avenues is followed, the Patriarchate will be losing control of the Church in Ukraine. It is in the Patriarchate’s best interest to have a negotiated solution to the problem because, in this case, the Patriarchate may hold at least a small part of the Ukrainian Orthodox under its rule. It may also avoid punishment of its officials. Is there no evidence of money transfers between Kiev and the Patriarch’s accounts in Switzerland or elsewhere? Elon Musk (DOGE) and the Russians have gathered all available evidence, and both sides are already threatening Zelensky, who has bought numerous houses worldwide. The Russians already talk about setting military/human rights “tribunals” in the model of the Nuremberg tribunals, which operated after WWII to punish war criminals and others, like those who destroyed UOC Churches and killed or harmed the faithful.
Vice President JD Vance has complete knowledge of the religious prosecution by the Zelensky government. He has made specific statements. In a February 5, 2025, speech at the International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington, D.C., he emphasized the importance of distinguishing between regimes that respect religious freedom and those that do not, stating, “The United States must be able to make that distinction.” Later that month, during the Munich Security Conference, Vance highlighted issues related to religious freedom and free speech in Europe, including Ukraine. He criticized the suppression of free speech and the persecution of religious practices, asserting that internal threats like censorship pose significant dangers to Western security.

Archons of Constantinople to give Mike Pompeo human rights award

The Archons of the Patriarchate of Constantinople have announced that this year’s recipient of the Athenagoras Human Rights Award will be former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The award will be presented on October 18 at the New York Milton Midtown Hotel, the Archons report.
As in past years, the award focuses on how the awardee has served the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Archon National Commander Anthony J. Limberakis explains that Pompeo “has consistently demonstrated a heartfelt and deeply informed concern for the rights of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and all of the religious minorities in Turkey, as well for the plight of all those around the world who have suffered for exercising their freedom of conscience.”
The announcement recalls Pompeo’s meetings with Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Elpidophoros during his tenure as Secretary of State. According to Limberakis he is “a staunch and steadfast defender of human rights.”
Pompeo also spoke at an Archons conference in 2024, the announcement recalls, at which he praised Pat. Bartholomew for granting autocephaly to the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
During his time as Secretary of State, Pompeo met with and expressed support for “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko and other OCU leaders. Dumenko is himself a former recipient of the Archons’ human rights award, although his organization openly and violently persecutes the Orthodox Christians of Ukraine.
Pompeo has publicly acknowledged that with his help, the U.S. pressured for international recognition of the schismatic OCU, and OCU “bishops” themselves have openly stated that Pat. Bartholomew was able to create the OCU in 2018 only because he had U.S. support.
Several months ago, Pompeo was pranked by famous Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus. Thinking he was speaking with former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the former Secretary of State said about the creation of the OCU:
I know, I was in the middle of it. I’m so proud of what happened. By the way, I think it has made a difference in the war. So I give His All-Holiness Bartholomew and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church [meaning the OCU—Ed.] leadership major honor for what they did.
And in his view, the idea that Zelensky and the OCU leadership are persecuting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is “nutso.”
Other past recipients of the Athenagoras Human Rights Award include Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria, former Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, and President Joe Biden (Vice President at the time).
Yet this is not a rational world that we live in. Because of this, the 3rd option, the nuclear one, is the most likely outcome. Ukraine doesn’t have nuclear warheads, though, so Ukraine won’t be nuked. It’s the countries with nuclear warheads, like the U.S. and Russia, that will suffer enormously as a result of nuclear war.
In a post-nuclear world, Ukraine is preserved.
The nuclear solution is not the most likely. President Trump is a sane and rational leader who is looking to end the war. If he were President four years ago, he would not have pushed for Ukrainian membership in NATO and Russia would not have invaded.
Trump would also not have authorized Ukraine to strike the Russians on their territory as Biden did. Unlike the Democrats and the neocons, Trump is not a bloodthirsty warmonger.
A peace agreement of some kind will
Be reached. And when the persecution of the Ukrainian Church ends it will
Be time for housecleaning in the Greek Churches.
The threat of nuclear war doesn’t come from the war in Ukraine, but rather it comes from flaring tensions in the Middle East, with the State of Israel as primary instigator, and the Trump administration as their main support:

If that wasn’t enough, Trump has authorized, since March 15, the much publicized (and even leaked) bombing of the Houthis in Yemen by the U.S. military. This is provoking a war with Iran and their military ally Russia. Trump can no longer claim to be the peace president, regardless of any peace deal made with Russia about Ukraine.
The Middle East has always been a mess. A nuclear threat has never materialized despite Neo con propaganda about an Iraqi threat, and now an Iranian threat.
The real nuclear threat emanates from a proxy war involving nuclear powers America and Russia. The Biden administration’s decision to allow an attack on Russian territory was a major escalation.
It is unlikely either country resorts to nukes over the Middle East.
I remind everyone that Russia has already tied Iran to not get nukes in their recent agreement.
Theodoros, I’m suggesting that a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia is developing in the Middle East over strategic interests. That’s where the focus of war has shifted to. So far, Iran and Russia have been very patient, but as the U.S. and Israeli war machine continues to ramp up, as it has been, then patience will likely come to an end.
Yes, they need to keep the charade moving along…even though they’re running on fumes now.

Athenagoras was not a good patriarch and getting the Athenagoras Human Rights Award is not an honor. Seems like the more corrupt one is, the more likely they are to receive this award.

The US and Russia and its predecessor the Soviet Union have backed proxies in the Middle East for decades without it spiraling out of control.
The heart of the crisis however is NATO’s decision to bring Ukraine in as a member. The Russians are threatened here near their border in a way they are not threatened in the Middle East. It is only with Ukraine that talk started about nuclear war.
Trump in my opinion is wrong on bombing the Houthis and in his position on Gaza. Regardless, he can’t change everything all at once. His priority should be ending the war in Ukraine and normalizing relations with Russia.
The chaos in Ukraine and Gaza began under Biden’s watch.
