Every nation has a “myth of origins,” but the news for Turkey is bad. DNA tests are likely to destroy the GENOCIDAL myth of origins of the so-called “Turkish Nation”

Tristan Tate recently sparked controversy with a tweet suggesting that pale-skinned Turks are actually of Greek descent.On May 5, 2025, he posted on X (formerly Twitter)
The official authorities in Turkey accused Tate of promoting a reductive view of Turkish identity and history.Critics pointed out that Turkey’s population is ethnically diverse, shaped by centuries of migration, conquest, and cultural assimilation.
But the reality is much different. Chief among the historians who proved centuries of forced Islamization in Asia Minor was the late Spyros Vryonis, while many have done remarkable work. Still today, we are fighting for the recognition of the Armenian and the Hellenic Genocides of the Early 20th Century worldwide. Until DNA studies arrived and proved SCIENTIFICALLY that the Turks of today are 50% Greeks in terms of genetics….
And what did the Turkish government do? They made DNA tests illegal in Turkey!! Unfortunately for them, by making the tests illegal, they ignited the curiosity of the population and now the majority know the truth: There is no Mongolian / Asian DNA in their blood. They are 50% Greek, with the rest 50% being Kurdish, Armenian, and the rest.
I have said before that I consider myself extremely lucky to have met at Stony Brook University in my first years in America (1985-90), Professor Emeritus Robert Sokal (link here). I was stunned to listen to his then pioneering research in the Balkans (he was Austrian-Jewish, so he knew the history and all else of the area): Robert Sokal, over 35 years ago, told us that he was able to identify real historical events through DNA analysis!! I am still in awe of the magnitude of such a realization!!
Then, during my doctoral research in Cyprus (1989-90), I was able to show the way against the “Neocyprians” who were pushing, for political purposes, the flawed theory that all Cypriots, Greek (80%) and Turkish (20%), are descendants of the Phoenicians. I knew the truth, but I did not have evidence. Less than 10 years later, DNA studies proved for all that all Cypriots have Greek DNA—period.
The Turks have plenty of Greek DNA. On the other hand, Greeks have NO Turkish DNA at all. The reason being is that Christians were an oppressed class in the Ottoman empire. Economic and political benefits were a strong incentive for many Christians to turn Muslim. A Moslem to convert to Christianity was next to impossible. Not only because of the increased taxation and loss of first class citizenship, but due to certain death. Conversion to Christianity was forbidden.
Marriages between the two faiths were also forbidden, unless the Christian converted to Islam.
The Ottoman empire didn’t recognize nationalities. Only religions. If you converted to Islam, eventually, you will speak Turkish, in Asia minor. However, in Crete, almost 50% of the island’s population converted to Islam, but still spoke Greek. No Muslim colonists ever entered Crete. In Cyprus, pretty much the same event took place, but in a smaller scale than Crete.
