EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). 1989 was a special time for Greek politics and music: center-right wing politician Constantine Mitsotakis had approached Mikis Theodorakis of the Left and Harilaos Florakis of the Greek Communist Party and had allied to throw Andreas Papandreou and PASOK out of power. As they did the following year, forming an alliance government until 1993.
In this rare video, you can see the effect the political alliance has on the music scene: Theodorakis and Xarhakos, both belonging to the Left, appeared together for a rare joint event, where Mitsotakis and his wife Marika were also present. Some magical pieces of music were heard that night!….
