Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Colonel General Andrey Mordvichev as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces, replacing General Oleg Salyukov, who was dismissed reportedly due to age. Mordvichev is known for his leadership in key operations during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, including the 2022 siege of Mariupol and the 2024 capture of Avdiivka. His tactics, often described as “meat assaults,” involve aggressive infantry offensives with high casualty rates.
