Elon Musk Accuses President Trump of Epstein Ties Amid Escalating Feud

Judging from Trump’s reactions to Ukraine developments, where he is hesitating to make the clear decisions he had promised to Americans before the inauguration and stop the war, one has the feeling that President Trump has a pistol always pointed at his head and that he is backmailed constantly. But this feeling only partly explains the feud with Elon Musk. I have difficulty buying the whole tenacity of the rift between the two: I have a feeling that something else might be going on in the background.  I am sure we will soon find out. In the meantime, let’s recapitulate the facts:

Origins of the Rift

Elon Musk, who contributed over $288 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign and served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), resigned from his role on May 30, 2025. The immediate catalyst for their fallout was Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a $3 trillion spending package that Musk criticized for increasing the national deficit and cutting electric vehicle (EV) incentives. Musk claimed he was not consulted on the bill and labeled it a “disgusting abomination” .

In response, Trump dismissed Musk as “crazy” and accused him of opposing the bill to protect his own business interests, particularly the now-removed federal EV mandate.

Trump’s own cryptocurrency, TrumpCoin, also suffered a $100 million loss in value. Adding a personal dimension to the feud, Ashley St. Clair, mother of Musk’s 14th child, publicly offered “breakup advice” to Trump.
