Since long before the war in Ukraine officially began in February 2022, Helleniscope has repeatedly stressed two fundamental truths that Western elites refused to acknowledge: first, that Russia is the most self-sufficient nation on Earth—immune to sanctions and economic blackmail; and second, that it is 2–3 generations ahead of the United States in hypersonic missile technology. While American tests have failed repeatedly, Russian systems are already deployed and proven. The U.S. has lost the arms race—not only in nuclear parity, but in conventional supremacy. If NATO dared to engage in an actual war with Russia, it would be destroyed with conventional weapons alone. Russia doesn’t need nuclear weapons to win; the U.S. only waves them around to avoid losing face. It is a futile, desperate gesture.
A Dangerous Farce
1. This is not deterrence—it is provocation with nukes
In the latest act of recklessness, the White House—under the unstable, juvenile leadership of a spoiled brat—has openly announced the deployment of two nuclear-powered submarines to unspecified “appropriate” regions, in reaction to former President Dmitry Medvedev’s rhetorical invocation of Cold War-era deterrence. This is not a strategic move—it’s a tantrum disguised as policy. The fact that the U.S. already has two submarines in each ocean surrounding Russia only underscores the futility and performative nature of this announcement. Just last week, before Medvedev’s statement, it became known that the US has moved nuclear missiles to the U.K.!! And now Trump pretends that he is “worried”?
Such disclosures have historically remained classified, not out of secrecy, but out of sanity. Strategic ambiguity is a pillar of nuclear deterrence. Announcing deployments for media consumption is not a strategy—it is spectacle. And spectacle invites disaster.
2. The NATO betrayal that provoked this war
All of this conveniently forgets how we got here. The U.S. and NATO, after promising in 1990–91 not to expand eastward during German reunification, blatantly violated those assurances. They didn’t just broaden—they marched into Russia’s geopolitical backyard, flooding Ukraine with weapons and NATO operatives. This wasn’t defense; it was provocation. The current administration acts as though this war erupted in a vacuum, devoid of context. That’s not ignorance—it’s deception.
3. Ukraine has lost—pretending otherwise is denial
The reality on the battlefield is grim for Ukraine: its forces are exhausted, its infrastructure shattered, its morale depleted. Even in Washington, the whispers are growing louder—this war is lost. Yet instead of facilitating peace, the U.S. doubles down on escalation. Nuclear submarines are now floated as “options,” while NATO pretends it’s not cornered. This is not courage. It’s a textbook case of pride before the fall.
4. The spoiled brat’s legacy: brinkmanship over peace
Trump’s response—“just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that”—is not leadership. It is a child’s defense mechanism in the face of failure. This moment calls for statesmanship. Instead, we are served immaturity, wrapped in apocalyptic stakes. The legacy of this administration will not be peace or victory—but catastrophic brinkmanship.
5. From war games to world-ending games
While the administration postures and rattles its saber, the weapons themselves inch closer to real engagement. Real submarines. Real missiles. Real consequences. This is no longer a game. And yet, the West continues to pretend it’s playing 4D chess, when in reality it’s juggling grenades blindfolded.
What Should Have Been Done
De-escalate nuclear signaling: Submarine movements should be silent and strategic, not blasted from press podiums.
Initiate peace negotiations: Ukraine cannot win on the battlefield. The only solution is at the table.
Admit NATO’s role in provoking the Ukraine war: The world deserves a full accounting—not a whitewashed mythology of Western innocence. And accept the Russian demand for Ukraine to stay out of NATO.
Stop flirting with Armageddon: Political theater should not come with the risk of global annihilation.
Final Thought
At a time when the world needs sober minds and diplomatic maturity, it is subjected to the whims of a spoiled brat with a finger on the red button. This war was never winnable for the West, and it has already been lost on every strategic front. But instead of seeking peace, Washington chooses escalation, choosing nuclear pageantry over truth.
Helleniscope warned from the beginning: Russia was ready, resilient, and vastly ahead in military capability. The West’s refusal to recognize this reality has brought us to the brink—not of victory, but of catastrophe. Pride, not principle, now guides American policy. No question that Trump acts rashly. Sending those submarines is a bully’s reaction when others dont show enough respect. Trump has no lomg-term plan in any policy. He thought all he had to do when he took office was to cow Ukraine, act as a friend to Putin and the war will be over and he”ll win the Nobel peace prize. Things are not working out that way. And he is mad.
But I still dont understand how Nick comes up with the result of tthe West losing a conventional, non-nuclear war. Russia can’t beat Ukraine in over three years. A country much smaller than her. How can she beat NATO, a union of nations that are much richer, populous and well armed. And not exhausted from over three years of fighting.
You have to do your homework. Sorry but I can’t do it for you. Russians have their way of fighting ground wars for centuries- this must be the sixth time in three centuries they repel a western attack. They don’t do “flashy” but useless operations. They started by calling out their goals: demilitarisation and denazification. Three years later they have demilitarized the whole NATO. According to the statement of NATO general secretary “Russia can produce double or triple the amount of defence materials than the combined NATO”. What other proof do you need? I can list at least 10 points of their victory at different levels…

The Russian Orthodox Church fully condones the war against Ukraine, and justifies that war in their mind as “protecting” their own ecclesial territory. This is the basis of the Russian World ideology.
If all the other autocephalous Orthodox churches no longer recognized Ukraine as the ecclesial territory of Russia, then I believe the Russian Church would no longer have a basis for condoning this war.

A thousand years? Did you just make that up? The Metropolises of Kiev and Moscow have very different histories, that sometimes intersected, but are nonetheless distinct. The Moscow Patriarchate was not given jurisdiction of Kiev until 1689, and that agreement specified that it was meant to be a fraternal jurisdiction rather than a paternal one.

The persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church began several years before the war. The pro Nazi government of Petro Poroshenko started this.
The war is a separate issue from the Church issue. People can disagree on the war. Orthodox may not disagree on the Church issue. The canonical Church under persecution has apostolic succession and its sacraments have grace.
The degenerates and savages dressing up like bishops and priests and call themselves the OCU have no legitimacy. There can be no recognition of that thing. Its fake bishops are proponents of violence and hatred propped up by the Neo Nazi regime in Kiev.
I do not agree with all the statements from Moscow but the Russian Church ultimately is the rightful Church authority in Ukraine according to the Tomos of 1686 granted by Constantinople.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church claims Christ as its founder. The OCU is founded by Poroshenko, Mike Pompeo, and Patriarch Bartholomew.
Which side can be called the “winner” in the Ukraine combat at this point? Yes, that would appear to be Russia right now, but at a very high cost.
And remember, in their previous successful ground wars the Russians could take comfort in the knowledge that, behind the lines, their women were regularly turning out lots of babies. Alas, now the Russian women have fully embraced not only birth control, but also abortion. Their expected military age population in future decades is expected to be less.
Russia needs to remember the wise advice given to the US by its Senator Aiken in 1966, when the US losses in its war in Vietnam were a small fraction of what they would ultimately be. He said that the US should declare victory there and get out. Two presidents ignored that wisdom. Applying the Aiken reasoning to Russia, I can see wisdom in Russia seeking a cease-fire now and a settlement roughly along the current line of military control. That may be not the big victory that Putin and Helleniscope wish to see, but it looks like the best move for Russia and for Christendom in general.
The problem is that Russia has no trust left in any western power and especially the US. They have broken their trust so many times – if you follow Helleniscope you can enumerate Them. They are left with no other choice at this moment except imposing the facts on the ground.
And, on the ground, just what should the specific Russian goals include? Odessa? Kiev? Lviv?
All of the above involve the occupation of large hostile populations.
The further Russia extends itself, the worse it would be for Russia in the long run.
And then maps of the mid-2025 line of control would start to look pretty reasonable.
Odessa ia even now 100% Russophone and Kiev I do not think is hostile. The only hostile are is Lviv which used to be Polish, while there are Romanian and Hungarian minorities in Westerbn Ukraine also – the latter are not hostile. I think the Russians will occupy Odessa and cut access to the Black Sea, which will solve the puzzle and impose a de facto peace.
Questions:
1. So if Russia holds what it has at this point AND takes Odessa, would that be a good enough gain to satisfy you?
2. Wouldn’t cutting Ukrainian access to the Black Sea create an issue that would prolong the war?
John, please be serious… When discussing geopolitics it is not about satisfying “me” or anyone… Geopolitcs is about opposing interests. These interests are largely defined by geography and history and, of course, current socio-economic realities. Occupying Odessa would definitely satisfy Russian interests. The city was established by Catherine the Great 250 years ago (with many privileges to the Greeks – by the way in 1810 and after there was a full-scale Greek Business School in Odessa!) Even today almost all the residents speak Russian. Above all, taking Odessa would eliminate access of what is left of Ukraine to the Black Sea and cause a de facto end to the War, as well as to the most of the aspirations of the Anglo-Saxons (Behind which the “Banksters” of the City of London are hidden) to dominate the Black Sea and step their foot on the vast riches of Russia. I remind you that this is the multiple time (fourth or fifth) in the last three centuries a war between Russia and the West is fought in this same exact geographical area.
What precisely high cost are you talking about? Do you actually believe the dishwater that Trump spouts about Russian casualties after his CIA handlers finish whispering sweet nothings in his ear?
There are widely varying counts of Russian dead and wounded. What are YOUR numbers? And have those losses been acceptable to you?

Stay away from words like ” acceptable ” bec that intimates that I’d keep score as if this were a baseball game, which is for people with casual acquaintance to pain and misery of war like the average keyboard warrior.
