From Captain Stelios Tatsis’ family, we just received the complete information for his funeral, which is to take place next Tuesday (viewing) and Wednesday (St.Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Flushing, NY).
Capt. Stelios Tatsis Obituary:
With great emotion and sorrow, we announce the passing of our father into eternal life. Captain Stelios Tatsis passed away on August 15, 2025. Beloved husband of Despina Tatsis. Loving father of Irene Tatsis-Kotsidis and Michael Tatsis. Loving grandfather of Despina, George, Angelina, Mikaela, and Stelios.
He was a man who always put others first – as a father, grandfather, friend, and fellow human being. In his personal life, he lived simply but gave generously. He was the rock of our family.
We will always remember the beautiful stories he told us in our childhood with his vivid and engaging style. He enriched our souls with faith, love and strength and will forever live in our hearts and be our guiding example.

May he rest in peace. I’m sorry I missed his funeral; I’m abroad this week. I came to know The Captain through his writings in Helleniscope. He will always be a role model to me, someone we all should try to emulate — a straight arrow with uncompromising ethical values, but also with immense compassion that made him embrace everyone in a fatherly way. We will miss The Captain. May God bless his soul.
