Why did Trump invite Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Christodoulides to the Peace Summit on Gaza? What’s the story behind this unexpected invitation — one that the Greek leaders themselves were not aware of beforehand?
And what’s the meaning behind their presence next to Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who received praise from the American President?
Just a day before the Summit in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, the Greek Prime Minister said jokingly:
“Tomorrow I’ll be in Sharm el-Sheikh, at the signing of the agreement. Greece is one of the European countries that will be there, along with Cyprus. Our presence is yet another answer to those who want to see Greece as isolated and small-minded.”
The truth, of course, was quite different — something that became evident the next day during the Summit (13 October 2025), which was attended by 31 leaders of states and international organizations.
The presence of Mitsotakis and Christodoulides carried very specific messages — as we shall explain below.

During his speech, the American President barely mumbled anything about the Greek leaders, saying only:
“We have Greece and… Hungary.”
In stark contrast, he presented the Turkish President almost as a catalyst in the wider region:
“Erdogan commands one of the strongest armies in the world. He’s much more powerful than he lets on. He’s won many conflicts, but doesn’t want credit for it. He just wants to be left alone […]. Every time I need him, he’s there for me.”
Returning to Washington, he added:
“I don’t get along with the weak; I get along with the tough ones. I don’t know why, but Erdogan has been excellent with me.”
In another moment he was even more effusive, saying:
“He’s tough, but he’s my friend and always there when I need him. When NATO has problems with him, they call me. I talk to Erdogan — and he never disappoints. He’s fantastic. Thank you for your friendship.”

So the first question that arises is: why the unexpected invitation, of which the Greek leaders had no prior knowledge — for if they had, they would have spent days singing self-congratulatory praises about it.
Furthermore, what is the symbolism of their presence beside the Turkish leader, who — unlike them — received glowing praise from the American President?
From the statements and the imagery of the Summit, several conclusions can be drawn:
When, in a gathering, you place someone in a prominent position and shower them with praise, while the others must sit beside him and watch, you are indirectly indicating whom you consider the dominant player in what is to come.
The presence of the Greek leaders was not merely decorative — it was revealing of what lies ahead.
The American President, in his own way, was saying:
“That man next to you — listen to him. You’d better get along and cooperate with him…”
“He’s much stronger than he lets on. He’s won many conflicts, but doesn’t want credit… He’s my friend and always there when I need him.”
In other words, the Summit was a perfect opportunity for the American President to set the record straight for anyone who thought he was keeping his regional cards close to his chest.
He made it clear who he considers his friend and the key player — and who, by necessity, must sit at the same table and deal with him (to put it politely).
Perhaps an equally important conclusion from the Summit is that, after the “peace” in Gaza — however long it lasts — his intervention in our own burning regional issues is approaching.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed that, during his brief meeting with Donald Trump, “the only issue discussed was the Cyprus problem.”

Trump at various points has heaped much praise and flattery on Vladimir Putin and Elon Musk, only later to say very negative tings about them. We should see the comments about Erdogan in much the same way.

This Qatar military base in the US is just the beginning. Turkish military bases in Germany and other places coming as well probably. Life as we remembered is over and I bet the Western European block and US will live to regret standing neutral in Cyprus and the Pontic and Western Asia Minor Catastrophe and backing bolsheviks.
Mitsotakis was acting like he had ADHD. Was he nervous? Itt is embarassing. Why was he on Trump’s right side? I thinnk he was given more prominence than what Greece has contributed to the Gaza conflict. During Trump’s speech, Erdogan was further down, away from Mitsotakis.
I wouldn’t read too much on Trump;’s praise for Erdogan. He knows Turkey is a powerful nation and Erdogan is a dictator. Look at the praise he heaped on Putin. Now he’s radioactive. Trump changes like the wind.
Only a Godfather of an International Crime Syndicate ..declares that “EU/Nato governments do what he want them to do ” and tell them who they can do business or buy their oil ane evergy or wage wars with” ..including Greece and Cyprus! This is the world view of Trump and Greece alnd Cyprus

Wow! I can’t trump your comment, but about that clip we saw in the article – was that Trump chairing the Gaza Summit, taking all the credit and treating all the other leaders like pawns on his chess board? I’m amazed at how happy they seemed to be with the setup. Like pigeons eating out of his hand. Poor Mitsotakis looked like he wanted to eat out of his hand too but Trump never offered him any crumbs. Mitsotakis probably had a speech all planned and was itching to deliver it. That might explain the goofy perma-grin on his face, and his constant fidgeting. Not to mention very self conscious, like a novice fresh out of politics school, worrying about how he looked rather than focused on the profundity of the unfolding events and their impact on his people and the world- very immature attitude, which explains everything else he has done horribly wrong. Can the next prime minister of Greece be an adult, please?
