Of course, he forgets a tiny detail: he belongs to one of Greece’s most pampered political dynasties. Hardship, sacrifice, and budgeting — these were exotic concepts reserved for other people. He breezed through Harvard and Stanford without ever breaking a sweat.
And — as Helleniscope has heard from members of the Greek-American community in the San Francisco area — during his “humble” Stanford years, his mother reportedly bought him a villa with a swimming pool.
Yes, a villa. With a pool!! Nothing screams “I understand student housing struggles” like swapping stories from your private estate in Palo Alto.
At that time (around 1992-93), the house cost $600,000-700,000, when a regular/average home in the area cost around $250,000… Now this same house costs more than $4,000,000!!! Helleniscope has more information about this story… We shall return…

Such a “Mousey” looking guy PM Mitsotakis is, were it not for his “Mommy money” nobody would take him serious.
And I heard he’s long estranged from his wife but shuffles her out for the photo ops.
I fail to see what his privileged past have to do with his job as a prime minister. The fact is, like him or not, he’s the best Greece has at the moment. And a great improvement from all prime ministers since Karamanlis the elder. If he is as rich as people say, he could have lived a life of leisure. Why be in politics, to have people hate him?
He is the best representative of the corrupt family-mafia system of Greece. In that respect he is the absolute best. And he proved his callousness in that little video… If the competition is is compare Mitsotakis to the other corrupt family-mafia in order to see who among them will do the least damage to Greece than we are in the wrong path… The correct place would be how are we going to overthrow all of them and have a better political system for the country.
Nick. Overthrowing an elected prime minister of a country brings back memories of the Junta. I am hoping that Greece is over such practices. I am sure you don’t mean it litteraly.
And keep in mind that even if this political mafia-family as you call them is overthrown, what gurantee do you have that the next one would not be as corrupt?
As you know, the political elites in Greece have established a law that protects themselves against prosecution for criminal behavior!! They practically established immunity for themselves… The famous law that “only the Parliament can prosecute them”. As we speak the EU prosecutor Laura Covesi is seeking to prosecute ministers on the basis of EU laws that are above this legislation… it’s an absolute despicable situation!…
Nick.The immunity of the president was also re-inforced by the supreeme court in America. Trump is abusing that ruling to the maximum. My opinion on the president’s immunity is that if immunity is not guaranteed, then the opposition would attempt to prosecute its opposition. In America, the guardrails were the presidents themselves, who cared about their legacy. They didn’t divide the country into “enemies to be prosecuted”, while granting pardons to the ones who support him,. Trump is destroying those guardrails and setting a precedent of the ruling party exacting revenge on the opposition. Just as happens in the third world.
Greece has a history of the ruling party exiling and even executing the opposition. Look at the six that were executed after the Smyrna debacle. They were accused of treason. They were not traitors. They tried and failed.
Greek parliament had enacted laws that gave them immunity. Hopefully, EU law would over ride that and punish corruption
