Greek and Greek-American Leadership Have to Face Their Colossal Mistakes…

Even if one knew nothing else except that, according to his own statement, President Trump accepted negotiations on the basis of Iran’s 10-point plan, that would be enough to declare the end of hostilities a big victory for Iran. But if you add to this the fact that during the two-week ceasefire, Iran continues to control and to charge “tolls” at the Straits of Hormuz, it would tell you most of what you need to know… But let’s start with these 10 points:
Iran’s 10-point plan includes:
1. U.S. commitment to permanent non‑aggression towards Iran
2. Recognition of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz
3. Explicit U.S. acceptance of Iran’s uranium enrichment program
4. Removal of all primary U.S. sanctions
5. Removal of all secondary sanctions
6. Termination of UN Security Council resolutions targeting Iran
7. Ending all IAEA resolutions and nuclear oversight measures
8. U.S. compensation payments for war damage
9. Withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from the Middle East
10. Comprehensive regional ceasefire, including Israel‑Hezbollah hostilities
Here is our assessment of the situation:
- Obviously, not all of these points will stand at the end of the diplomatic process and be approved by the U.S. Many will be rejected or dramatically altered. The fact remains that these 10 points are the basis for discussion, and Iran has the upper hand.
- Why does Iran have the upper hand? Because it will control – during the ceasefire and after any final peace deal or even under no deal – the Straits of Hormuz… Something it did not have before the war began on February 28. What an unmitigated catastrophe for the U.S. foreign policy!!
- A possible outcome of the situation would be that the US withdraws from the negotiation process and effectively abandons the Middle East. Why? Almost all the military bases in the Persian Gulf and the entire Middle East have suffered catastrophic damage (their radars valued at at least $5 billion destroyed, most facilities totally unusable, etc.).
- With very little ammunition in stock and no visible way to restock them faster than Iran and its allies (Russia, China), what’s the point for the U.S. of continuing the war?
- On the opposite, if the US concentrates on the Western hemisphere where it already controls Venezuela (with its huge energy reserves), likely to control Cuba (it is already visible) and Greenland (likely under certain circumstances), then the new “Donroe Doctrine” has legs and can produce prosperity for America in a new multipolar world order.
- Israel did not agree yesterday to stop the war in Lebanon, but it is clear that it has already lost the war there: tens of Merkava tanks have been destroyed in an ingenious way by Hezbollah, and the overall casualties are heavy. The Israeli military is exhausted, according to statements by at least one of its leaders and many of its soldiers… They are not a professional army and are fighting for three continuous years: jobs abandoned, families abandoned… This is the end of the road. Already, hundreds of thousands of Israelis have left permanently for the West and Russia.
- As the “fog of war” clears and the overall “new landscape” emerges in the region, Iran will undoubtedly be a major power with global significance as it will directly or indirectly control over 20% of the world’s energy and an even higher percentage of the fertilizers, helium, and other necessary ingredients of the modern industrial production. Unlike the Cold War, when the Soviet Union was largely insulated, and America was dominant by controlling global material resources, it is now clear that the global economy is tightly interconnected, and disruption in one place affects the well-being of all countries. A new multipolar system is necessary to regulate friction and allow all “players” access to resources.
- History will say that the Iran war was the end of the Western Hegemony and the end of the “Greater Israel” plan. With America out of the Middle East, the chances for “Greater Israel” are zero. Pathological Zionist leaders should face reality.

Finally, the “geniuses” of Greek foreign policy, like the idiotic Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who has been stupidly choosing the “right side of history” in Ukraine and the Middle East, have now a difficult – but not impossible – task: to find a new balanced approach towards the winning side. Thankfully, the Russians are grateful to the Greek shipowners for their help at a critical time, and these shipowners will now serve as mediators between the Kremlin and the puppets of the Greek political elites. China needs the Port of Piraeus and will find a “modus vivendi” in the new circumstances. Iran needs the many Greek ships as much as the shipowners need Iran, and they have very close, longstanding relationships: the reason Iran gave Greece oil on credit during the difficult years of the financial crisis was this particular relationship with the shipowners. Already, Dendias and Mitsotakis have started the “balancing” process with Russia and China – at least with some statements (more private than public at the moment…) But will they return to the rather balanced principles of post-1945 Greek foreign policy? Doubtful, but they will have to make a serious effort.
As for the even bigger “geniuses” of the Greek Lobby in DC and our so-called leaders of DC and NY, it will be funny to watch them do their somersaults as they try to survive amidst their colossal mistakes. What did they achieve by identifying themselves with the Judeo-Christian Zionists – except money for themselves, of course? In front of the coming disaster, with “flexibly neutral” Turkey having all the doors open and Israel all but lying in ruins, how successful was their policy? And how many risks have they inflicted on Hellenism? The Constantinople Patriarchate is in the worst position of all: They have completely lost the game in Ukraine, and with America very likely removing itself from the Middle East, they should start packing their luggage…
Excuse my harsh and painful language above, but Helleniscope has been warning for many years about these negative outcomes – but nobody was listening… I have been explaining the risks in person to some of our leaders… It doesn’t make me happy to see the disaster. It will make me extremely happy if our leadership learns the right lessons…
Straightforward news. Love it. A new power is arising. The West will have to accept it. I condemn the killing of 175 elementary school children by the US and Israel. I condemn war. I condemn do nothing Congress for allowing this horror to happen.
I will agree with the Helleniscope opinion in many points. Certainly, none of the demands that Trump imposed when the bombing started—regime change, populous uprising–have been met and it looks like they will not be. While the Iranian navy has been sunk, they can re built by the tolls charged on the Straights of Hormuz—if it happens– and the increased price of oil.
While we can never tell which side is victorious, until a while has passed and the dust settles, let’s not triumphalize like Bush the 2nd did, when he declared victory at Iraq.
Watching MSNBC this morning, you would form the opinion that Trump, not America, was the loser. I dont watch FOX news, but I’m sure their narrative is that Trump triumphed like a Roman emperor conquering Gaul. At least that’s what Trump’s poodle, Hegseth, kept crowing about this morning.
Please, be careful, America and Trump are two different things. He did not obtain permission for war, never consulted the American people, hence it is Trump that has been humiliated.
Let’s wait and see what happens in two weeks, and we can form a more nuanced opinion. Either way, the toddler in chief has gotten a good spanking. Just as he got in Minneapolis. Hopefully, he learned his lesson and will move on to other pursuits. Such as getting his face on Mount Rushmore. He knows he isn’t getting the Nobel prize now. Even second handed.

You will notice that I was mostly silent on your fine website for the last month regarding our aggression against Iran (and worse, our alliance with Israel).
To be blunt, I was against both actions.
That said, I have stated my reservations and observations on Hegemonix, with my colleague Misha Voin. Over the last six weeks, we have talked about Iran, Israel and the Middle East. Both of us were concerned about the psychopathic tendencies of Netanyahu and, broadly speaking, the aggression against Iran. My own instincts told me that as bad as it looked for Trump that it would be another case of Israel dictating our foreign policy –i.e. not good–I believed that Trump was playing a long game. Not only calling NATO/EU to task but finding a way for us to extricate ourselves from the Middle East.
Other winners are the Russians, who have had many of the sanctions lifted off of them. China will now be even more dependent upon Russian oil.
The losers? Israel which has been heavily punished by Iran. The EU which will now be left alone. This is all in concert with Trump’s “long game.”
So what is the “long game”? You can find it in the NSS which Trump put out in late November. Israel was not even mentioned. Instead, he crafted a multipolar world based around five civilizational blocs: (1) the Americas/Greenland, (2) Russia, (3) China, (4) Japan, and (5) India. The Middle East will be divided by China and India and possibly Russia. The EU will be left to Russia.
Now that Iran has agreed to come to the table, we can more clearly see this coming about to fruition.
Is there a spanner in the works? Yes: Israel. I can envision Israel inciting the Greeks to attack Turkey from the West while they strike from the South.
Excellent points George. I think Helleniscope has already discussed the possibility of Israel inciting Greece towards a “pre-emptive” war against Turkey. So far, I can tell you that the Greek leadership has been playing it correctly in this respect. I can also tell you that when the Greek Defense ministry asked Israel to send a couple of warships during an episode with Turkey in the Southeastern Aegean last year, ISRAEL REFUSED. This tells you how they think.
As for Trump, yes, the practical outcome is that with his crazy behavior will likely help America get rid of the Zionist Lobby. But at what cost? Is it worth to divide the country to the point of a civil war to achieve this? We will also never know if it was intentional or unintentional… Yes, if you combine as part of his nutty actions the end of NATO and possibly the end of the EU, then we may in the end say that “Trump intentionally or not got rid of the Globalists and led America and the world to a better place”. But it will take time for America to win back its credibility. Words matter as much as actions sometimes.. Not to say anything about the “Shining City On A Hill”…
All you say is true. The thing is though, as a country we are already deeply divided. It doesn’t matter what Trump does or doesn’t do. The Left is filled with rabid hatred towards Christendom, Americanism and the white race. They’ll do whatever they can to maintain their grip on power. Sadly, here is no reasoning with them.

I am as opposed to “wokism” and “DEI” as you are. No matter who’s in power. I too, disagree with Hegseth’s theology. In fact, I’m appalled by it. That said, as SecWar, he’s re-building the military inside out. He may not succeed but the way things were going with the Dept of “Defense”, we were definitely a hollowed-out military.
It will take a lot to truly re-build the military… The whole educational system and the whole society has to be re-oriented. An America that produces “gender studies” B.A. degrees has no chance to compete… Iran with 90 million people produces over 200,000 engineering degrees annually – many among them women. China with over 1.4 billion people produces over 2 million engineers annually. An easier way would be to re-orient the immigration system prioritizing with J-1 Visas (or something similar) those with advanced degrees. A century ago, all the empires collapsed and various borders changed. During the Great War, the Turks carried out genocide against Greeks, Armenians, and Assyrians.
There were large numbers of Greeks still living in Asia Minor at the time, and Constantinople.
Venizelos had a case. Today, there are no Greeks left in Turkey. Attacking Turkey (and for Israel) would be insane.
George, Greece was never “forced” by the British and French to invade Turkey. No, in 1919 those powers went along with the Venizelos idea of a Greater Greece. By 1920 those powers even were declaring support for the Sevres proposal, with its small Greek zones and a vaguely defined Armenia. The London Times even declared Greece to be a “Mandatory” power for the Allies. (I saw the newspaper microfilm.)
Then, by late 1920 Britain and France began to quarrel with one another. France then worked to support the Turks, the Turks exhibited miliary force, and Ireland was in revolt from Britain. So, Britain therefore wanted to be done with any commitment to Greece. They used a Greek election in favor of King Constantine as an excuse to declare a neutrality.
At that point Greece and its restored Constantine government had to decide whether to pull out of its zones without a fight or try to fight on its own. Neither choice looked good. The Turks were unwilling to negotiate. Constantine did choose to fight, and you know of the Catastrophe that followed.
John, thank you for the clarification. But I’m not going to let the Anglo-French off that easily. If they didn’t “encourage” Venizelos to invade Turkey, they didn’t stop him either. And why would they? Thanks to the Sykes-Picot Agreement, they were rubbing their hands in glee as Turkey was losing the Levant as well.
Yes, Constantine I was given a dog’s breakfast upon his return to the throne. But we can’t forget that he did everything in his power to keep Greece neutral in the Great War. He failed, obviously but the fates were against him.
It’s ironic, but it was under his military leadership as Crown Prince that Greece doubled its size. We should never forget that it was he (under the orders of his father George I) who conquered Thessaloniki.
George, I would never want to let the British and French off easily concerning ANYTHING connected to Greek history during this period!
And although the Catastrophe did occur under when Constantine was in office, we must never accept the anti-Greek historiography that is out there which tries to make us believe that the Catastrophe would have been avoided if Greece had simply accepted Turkish rule in Smyrna and Thrace in 1919 and not put Greek troops in those places. Oh, the details would have been different, but the Turks would have found an excuse, just as they did in 1915 with the Armenians and in 1974 with Cyprus.
Thankfully there is a real shift toward a more multipolar world where Russia and China are gaining influence—but that doesn’t make the rest accurate. Claims about control of the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. collapse, or decisive outcomes aren’t supported, and Greece’s weakneses deserve a more grounded critique than this. I think the real issue is how the US policy is focused on relegating NATO and Britain to the garbage heap of history.
Eleni – I think by now after weeks of bombing – unfortunately much carpet-bombing – we can support at least the following: a) Unlike American and Zionist predictions, the Iran regime has enough popular support. It is remarkable that only 50% of the popuulation are Persians, the rest Kurds, Azeris, Baluchis etc. Yet they naturally united under the Flag. Similarly in Russia, Muslims fight and die for “Mother Russia”. Why do you think our American “multiculturalisn” failed in this respect? b) The failure, the inability of US leadership and especially Trump and Hegseth is atrocious. I am not going to waste our time explaining how bad it is that some leader doesn’t even consider “the Straits of Hormuz scenario” – which is taught at all levels at the Pentagon for decades. c) Iran has won by strategically preparing for and fighting an assymetric war. Iran has ten different weapons designed to close the Strait of Hormuz: hypersonic missiles, drones, regular mines, mobile (controlled) mines, submersible UAVs, small speedboats with missiles, etc. etc.
We Greeks should know and appreciate better this assymetric warfare, because our whole history is a history of assymetric warfare – from the ancient times to WWII…
Not to mention the tremendous moral element of “martyrdom”, supported by the Shiite faith in Iran and by Hellenic Ideals in Ancient Greece and Orthodoxy in Modern Greece.
There may be some truth in Iran’s asymmetric capabilities and more truth in the broader shift toward multipolarity but claims of decisive victory, U.S. failure, or effective control of the Strait of Hormuz go well beyond what’s actually happened or what the evidence supports…as for the Greece comparison that’s more rhetorical than analytical. Invoking martyrdom here confuses cultural symbolism with military reality and whatever parallels are being drawn with Greece simply don’t hold. I for one know that a more just regime there will stop hanging young kids and exporting terror everywhere.

But I happen to be an anthropologist by training (among my many hats) and I can see in the relationship of Iran with the West a series of misconceptions that stem from the misguided Western/colonial lens of cultural superiority. In 1953 Iran had a democratically elected government, led by PM Mossadeqh, a secular and rather westernized politician, a lawyer, whose main goal was for the proud country of Iran to take control of its oil – instead of 90% of the income going to British companies… By the way, this is the same exact reason why France was kicked out of Niger a few years ago: France used to pay Niger only 10% of the price for Uranium they used in the French nuclear plants (France produces 70% of its electricity using nuclear power). Mossadeqh in 1953 was overthrown by who do you think? The CIA… Who later installed the Sah, applying exactly the same “brilliant” plan the US wanted to apply NOW in the year 2026…

The military reality is that the US – with very little prepared and incompetent leadership – fought an assymetric war with a country who was preparing for five decades, had survived a total set of sanctions and a country that acted strategically and assymetrically. Nick, I agree with you. As already stated, I kept my mouth shut for the most part. Yes, I was disappointed with this latest military adventure, viewing it as a betrayal of MAGA —but, I could also see what would be the outcome:
1. The erasure of Israeli military power in the Middle East,

Trump has announced that 100,000 troops stationed across Europe will come back to the US to punish Europe for not bombing Iran. Additionally, given many bases in the Middle East were leveled, as in completely uninhabitable, leaving those 30,000+ troops to be reassigned as well. Where will they go? US bases have been in various stages of extremely uninhabitable to barely habitable due to mold, dirty water, and lack of repairs or maintenance. As a result, soldiers share housing, while others seek affordable off-base shelter. So where exactly will Trump and Hegseth put an additional 130,000 soldiers?
Will European bases be abandoned? Germany alone hosts 20 bases housing 35,000 troops. The threats continue while the logistics are not considered. The bases across Europe were established as central to bomb Middle East and African countries as a Defense hub. Defense has been renamed War by Trump. Because the only country America ‘defends’ is Israel.
The entire concept of NATO is no longer relevant and hasn’t been for decades. Getting out of NATO was actually one of Trump’s original campaign promises… In essence, our military really has no purpose because purpose is written as War. If we bring home troops, put them to work ‘building’ – housing, roads, bridges, running farms, mitigating climate disasters, giving their lives purpose. Giving them respect. Allowing them integrity. Supporting honor.
The US Military spends millions on unused office buildings. Wasting money for absolutely no reason. They don’t negotiate leases, they pay top dollar, driving up the market. AI will ultimately destroy commercial real estate. A given statistic. Mitigate what is inevitable. Office buildings are easily convertible into housing units. Unused land on bases are now open on the private market for building data centers. Other bases are abandoned due to hazardous waste; asbestos and lead paint. Bulldoze them!
The underuse of the military is criminal. While their routine is guided by ‘war readiness’ they could instead be productively used to rebuild a decaying country. Returning pride to what has become a pariah enterprise. Hegseth hired an additional 30,000 troops. Why? Prepping for War?
Today, the newest saving face dilemma is Israel broke the peace deal within minutes of its announcement sending over 200 bombs into Lebanon and killing 254 people within less than an hours time. Defying Trump. Defying the Deal. And announcing that he never agreed to anything – and is not a party to the Peace. Trump has options: 1) move all troops out of the Middle East and let Israel and Iran duke it out alone. 2) lie and claim Iran broke the deal -. 3) lie and claim the peace deal never included Lebanon.
Unfortunately, Trump has a vested interest in Gaza, had vested interests in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, and is all over the Epstein Files which Israel is using to completely destroy Trump’s narcissistic ‘legacy’. In Trump-World money is everything. It supersedes family, America, Americans, and just about everything – except Trump’s obsession with being the Greatest President Ever in the history books. Which is why he requires his name prominent on monuments, arches, ballrooms, concert halls, dollar bills, etc…
Right Now Israel has Trump chained. Hegseth lied to The People about the rescue operation. Many more soldiers have died than the White House figure of 15. The wounded are not even counted. Bases are flattened and the War is one ginormous veritable failure. Yes-men Generals do NOT win wars, they create them. In an attempt to regain some semblance of posterity, Trump was going to announce his dropping out of NATO to punish Europe.
Now Trump faces a failed peace deal and a closed Strait yet again while already capitulating that Iran could charge $2 million per passage. Clawing out of this massive hole is going to require – TRUTH.
It is quite possible the entire Military could call Mutiny. The Pentagon is likely in a frenzy closing down any potential leaks of Truth while ascertaining a means and way of saving face for Trump. Which does not seem likely. Iran’s talented media ops continue to release their LEGO version of what is actually happening in contrast to Hegseth, Leavitt, and Trump. Influencers are mocked. JD Vance, the anointed Catholic, is lying thru his teeth – and EVERYONE KNOWS IT!
The Feeds that were CIA and DoD propaganda have lost the PR War. Italy’s Meloni is raging about lost oil, the UK, Germany and France are close behind with rationing expected. And in that sense, Iran has already won. Europe wants to wholly abandon any relationship with America in order to plead for Iran’s mercy. Putin shakes his head. Jinping gives that barest hint of a smile. And Trump’s Zionist financiers are screaming for him to do something!
Trump tweets. Leaving behind a trail of evidence for each Lie. Leaving troops in harms way. Abandoning his duty as Commander and Chief. Hegseth is lost in his limbo world of denial – leaving 50,000 US troops in the Middle East as potential fodder from both Israeli and Iranian fire. General Dan Caine is mumbling incoherently. And Plan B was apparently never discussed. They have NO PLAN B. Which is why Hegseth fired some 20 to 30 Generals – they demanded strategy and Hegseth demanded ‘wing it’.

As for the Epstein files, we can be fairly confident that Trump is not in them. Had he been so, we would have known during the Biden administration.
I also disagree with your characterization of Hegseth firing generals. In my opinion, anybody who holds the rank of Lt Col in the Army/AF/Marines or Commander in the Navy, needs to be cashiered as soon as possible. To get to that point, one had to be a brown-noser who went along with all the Skittles madness of the past 30 years. (This began with Clinton.)
