American Philhellenes Society Responds to the Disrespectful Behavior By the Mayor of Argos

EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). The American Philhellenes Society, led for many years by our friend Panagiotis Nikolopoulos, has been placed in a difficult and unfortunate position due to the conduct of the Mayor of Argos, Greece. His dismissive handling of a memorial painting—sent by the Society for proper display and recognition—was disrespectful and deeply disappointing.

It is particularly disheartening that this incident comes on the eve of April 19, a date officially observed in Greece as the Day of Philhellenism and International Solidarity. This day is meant to honor the enduring contributions of foreign admirers of Greek culture and those who supported Greece during the War of Independence (1821–1829), while also promoting the spirit of international solidarity with Greece today.

Παρασκευή Σκούρτη – Τσεφαλά (6946197869) προκειμένου να εκτεθεί και να κοσμήσει κοινωνικό χώρο της Ερμιόνης.

After your insulting stance towards the Greek Diaspora regarding the painting of the Philhellene Monument that was sent to you, and not knowing where you have thrown the work, I call on you to hand it over to the representative of the Hermionida Studies Society (H.S.S.), Ms. Paraskevi Skourti-Tsephala (6946197869) to be exhibited and to decorate a social space in Ermioni.
