This image, which has been circulating widely on the internet in recent hours, depicts an act that goes beyond every limit of war and reaches the level of absolute sacrilege.

The circulation of the photograph showing a soldier of the Israeli Defense Forces destroying with a hammer a statue of Jesus Christ in the town of Debel in southern Lebanon is a painful reminder of the barbarity that war can produce.

This act is not merely vandalism of a religious symbol, but a crude and disrespectful attack on the very person of the God-man, one that deeply wounds the religious feelings of Christians around the world. The sight of a person raising a hammer against the Crucified—at the very place where faith and hope meet the divine—reveals a lack of culture and a dark urge to humiliate the sacred.

This abhorrent act, stemming from a blind hatred of Christianity and its values, insults the history and identity of the Christian community in the region. It is unthinkable that, in the year 2026, we are witnessing such atrocities, where the religious symbol of love and sacrifice becomes a target of warlike fury. The destruction of the statue of Christ on the cross is not simply the loss of a work of art, but an insult to the memory and faith of millions of people, proving that when reason is lost in the vortex of conflict, sacrilege becomes the ultimate weapon of the irreverent.

  1. His ancestors killed Christ. And now this symbolizes the same thing. If Christ would come back today, they would not treat him any different. They do not know that Christ is risen! Antichrists!

  2. It will be interesting to see if Evangelical support (monetary and moral) will continue at the same levels after this circulates the internet…

It will be even more interesting to see if Congress decides to cut funding after this, too…

And what will happen to all those efforts to change Biblical verses to make them more “politically correct”?

The sad fact is that this soldier is acting with impunity, because it is unlikely that he will be prosecuted or do any jail time for this action…perhaps he is part of the same faction that spits upon Orthodox clergy?

    • The Evangelicals will never stop supporting Israel. These people do not believe in Christ. They are another form of Judaism. They focus their lives not on Christ but on the modern state of Israel.

Israel bombed Saint Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza and a Roman Catholic Church and not a word from the Evangelicals.

  3. Despicable …they would crucify Him all over again. The Zionist Evangelicals would be screaming, crucify Him, crucify Him, as the Pharisees and Sadducees (elites) hide in the darkness….

Lord have mercy on all of us….🙏☦️
