Tucker Carlson yesterday delivered a striking apology to his audience, acknowledging that his long-standing support for Donald Trump had been misguided. Speaking candidly on a podcast, Carlson said he regretted using his platform to encourage viewers to back Trump, admitting that he now believes he helped shape public opinion in a way he considers harmful. Tucker was interviewing his younger brother Buckley, who was also very active in the Republican Party and a speechwriter for Trump.
He told listeners he feels personally responsible for “misleading people,” even if that was never his intention at the time. Carlson described a sense of lasting remorse, saying he expects to be “tormented for a long time” by the role he played. He also acknowledged that warning signs about Trump’s behavior and leadership were visible but often dismissed or rationalized by supporters, including himself.
A key part of his reflection centered on how influential media figures can sway public thinking. Carlson conceded that his commentary strengthened Trump’s political base and normalized rhetoric he now views more critically. His shift appears tied to growing dissatisfaction with certain actions and decisions associated with Trump, which he suggested conflicted with values he once believed were being upheld.
The apology marks a notable reversal after years of vocal support and signals a broader internal reckoning. While Carlson framed his remarks as an honest admission of error, reactions have been mixed. Some view it as a meaningful acknowledgment of influence and responsibility, while others question whether it comes too late to undo the impact he had on millions of viewers.

Tucker’s apology proves one thing. We can all think for ourselves We dent need Tucker to think for us. America has been inundated by the likes of Tucker, Candace, Alex Jones, Megan Kelly and of course, the very dead Limbaugh who started it all, married and divorced 5 times, was a drug addict and supposedly worthy of receiving the medal of freedom. I’m sure he’s proudly wearing it; in the very hot place he is currently inhabiting.
People, please, read legitimate news sources, including Nick’s much improved Hellniscope and support him in his worth-while effort. America depends on well informed citizens. Not on minds inundated by propaganda
Bob you made a salad of media figures and included everyone there… You cannot make sense of events with such mental salads. The problem was not with Tucker but with Trump. We believed in Trump since 2015 because he presented the one opportunity to deal with the swamp. What Tucker says is that he (and we) should not believe him… Well, we shouldn’t believe many other politicians… As a young voter in Greece I should have never voted for the ultimate demagogue Andreas Papandreou… This is the price we pay for democracy- which unfortunately is not the best system…
Nick. all those media figures have turned against Trump just as Tucker did. That’s why I included them.
The fact that they were fooled by Trump’s lies is no excuse. They should have known better. This is the point I’m making and the lesson that voters should learn. To think for themselves.
Granted, democracy is not perfect, but as Churchil said, it is the best of any other choices
Again trump betrayed and broke promises and not the other way around…
Bob,
I also regret voting for Trump. There were however valid reasons for voting for Trump at the time. Most notably Trump opposed going to war with Russia over Ukraine and promised no wars in the Middle East.
Back in 2017, Democratic strategist Paul Begala called on Trump to bomb Russia. Do you think attacking Russia is better than attacking Iran?
Have you forgotten the aggressive anti Russian propaganda and pro war stances of the Democrats?
The Democrats were just as hawkish with Russia as Trump has become with Iran. People like Carlson, Owen’s, and others opposed NATO aggression in Russia and oppose Trump’s war in Iran.
This paleoconservative faction which includes publications like the American Conservative have been consistent in opposing war. Trump ran as an anti war candidate.
I voted for him largely because the Democrats alarmed me with their hawkish statements against Russia.
We are where we are because both political parties want the US to be an empire.
Theodoros.
Whom you voted for is your prerogative, as a thinking citizen. The problem is when many Americans followed Tucker’s advice, as if he was smarter than them, as if he knew better than them.
I would never let someone else make my choice for me. Look at all the others that are repenting now. Including MTG, one of the trumpiest trumpers ever existed. What was her reward for her devotion? A swift kick to the curb.
If people hadn’t listened to Tucker, and the others, excusing his Jan 6th attempt at our system of government, he would have lost. To me, this was and still is the greatest threat. Not war with Iran, not the tariffs, not the higher gas prices. Only the nightmare that we lose our right to make our voice heard.
If I blame Trump voters for anything is because off their disregard for the danger Trump represented to this nation’s system. All the mea culpas in the world, will not erase the error of their judgement.
Bob – you sound really obnoxious… As if all your votes in the past were well given and as if you were not fooled by the corrupt politicians of the swamp… All of us have been fooled and this is why I am suggesting that democracy is not the right system of governance. Self-flaggelation is not the right solution here as we form our opinions – especially those of us who have a certain experience and Education by reading and listening to a variety of sources.
The Whole MAGA platform is obscene, it is way out of line of not adhering to, the good old sense of fairness, encoded in traditional American Values. Trump is no Theodore Roosevelt whose motto was “Speak softly but carry a big stick”. The contemporary problem in American Society is that neither Biden nor Trump should have been on the ticket! Too much money without substantial Vetting. Both candidates were too old and, both would have been lame ducks. Regrettably, Donald Lame Duck Trump has become corruptible on all levels due to his attainment of
“Absolute Power”!
It puzzles me that the American people haven’t figured out yet how the 2 parties system works:
It is like a race that only 2 horses run, the Democratic horse and the Republican horse. The Zionists of AIPAC put their money on both horses, so whoever wins the elections, Israel wins anyway!
To Bob
Tucker Carlson is a moderate voice in America. Speaking for myself I was already pro Trump. I like Tucker because shared many of my views. As a journalist on FOX he talked about the persecution of the Ukrainian Church and hosted Lawyer Robert Amsterdam.
Carlson always took an anti war position and if Trump listened to him we would be in a better place. Place.Look at the people Trump is listening to now. Lindsey Graham, Mark Levin, and Laura Loomer.
Look at these people and then look at Carlson. Carlson represents real opposition in America and debate. His opposition to Trump over the war shows he is principled. Most Trump voters are good people.
They have been stabbed in the back by Trump. Marjorie Taylor Greene is very good. She has some great podcasts slamming the Evangelicals along with Trump and lamenting the civilian deaths in Iran.
All those who are against Trump now are against him for reasons of principal. I am in favor of interparty cooperation not end the war and remove Trump. On the net I have seen comments from those on the left who are opposed to cooperation with those on the right including those against Trump.
The demonization of conservatives needs to stop. Reconciliation in America is necessary to stop this war.
Nick
You probably voted for Andreas Papandreou- as most of the younger generation did to support PASOK in 1980; in protesting the post anti- junta years from 1967-74. Andreas Papandreou was not a marginal politician whose father -George, was a former PM during WWII . Andreas had earned his stripes in the USA as Harvard PhD and Head Economics Prof. at Berkeley University of California in the late 1960’s of the liberal side of the scale on the political scene at the time. I think you went along with the progressive tide at the time, correct me, if I am off base? Trump has no fundamental socio-political experience. His resume as a hard core developer is detrimental, a hustler , sophomoric style, not an asset to our nation. His primary obsession is to renovate the White House – he has no clue how to govern the USA. He Lacks Sophrosyne!
He likes to golf with his MAGA – red cap and snap off some comments ,to various reporters/press, about this? that? this is great, that’s marvelous. He is basically a salesman, a promoter, with a casino mindset mentality in order to become more successful , to be enriched by his investments; nothing wrong with that. American People should NOT expect more from this President. He is not a statesman. Had his voters or supporters known more about his troubled past ,Stormy Daniels, Epstein, many others , in addition ,being involved in over 4,000 lawsuits-perhaps the GOP, better vetting by – the conservatives, made a better candidate? and no excuses for the DEMS – liberals , created more complications by the WOKE philosophy; they should have put quality choices for the voting public. These two extreme agendas , have stigmatized both political parties , and regrettably, have polarized the American
Polity and now we have a huge mess to fix for the next generation.
