Fr.Karloutsos, Dennis Mehiel and Michael Psaros, should first announce whether or not they have drawn $30 million out of “Faith” and “Leadership 100” in order to finish St.Nicholas… Why are they hiding it? As for Fr. Karloutsos, you sir, are no Pericles…

By Nick Stamatakis

In a display of monumental shamelessness Fr. Karloutsos made a hapless attempt today to respond to “legitimate or illegitimate” critics “who are unwilling or unable to move beyond their personal preferences and disappointments”.  He should be reminded that there is a big difference between a “criticism” and an “indictment”: the Archdiocese is faced with a series of indictments, in an investigation that is still ongoing, according to the latest announcement (last week!) by the press officer of the Southern District of New York!!

Who is the ongoing investigation after?  Are they after the “smaller fish”, who abused credit cards, etc.? They could have picked those up easily; they already have all the evidence they need!.. Who was seated higher than the already indicted finance director Jerry Demetriou?  Arch. Demetrios certainly bears responsibility for the mess, both at the Archdiocese and at the St.Nicholas Fund, but it is clear that he did not “enrich” himself… And without “unlawful personal enrichment” the prosecutors have no serious case…

The one person in the hierarchy who has been enriching himself in many different ways and for so many decades is you Fr.Karloutsos! Why are you hiding behind your finger so shamelessly?  There is something to be said about the youthful priest and his presbytera who started as a penniless couple in a Chicago church about 50 years ago, where the community bought them a car, and the now “Vicar General” who has been for years enjoying multiple salaries and pensions from different positions, and has accumulated multi-million dollar assets – assets certainly not justified at all by a priest’s salary…

If the Church of Christ were a legitimate vehicle to such untold wealth, then, Fr. Karloutsos you should at least have shown the charisma and the preaching skills displayed by the evangelical pastors of the “Mega Churches”… But your charisma is as non-existent as your preaching ability.  And so, we are left with your skillful use of the Archdiocese’s mantle to “hook” various ultra-rich donors into several tax-avoiding schemes.  Of which you never miss to get your “commission”… We are also left with your skillful ways to peddle “invitations” to the White House for the annual Greek Independence Day Celebration… And we are left with various other power-peddling and “lobbying” schemes… And so your professional classification is simply: a sales rep…

Evoking, once again, the Parthenon in the construction of St.Nicholas at Ground Zero is just a gross exaggeration; let’s just say that it does not fit the eternal example of  “humility” and “selflessness” that the Saint represents… As for Pericles, dear Fr. Karloutsos, I have studied history more than most and I can assure you Sir, you are no Pericles… You are a simple sales rep…

Finally, the pitiful prose of the “Archons”, Michael Psaros and Dennis Mehiel, is best answered with one question: Is it true that you and Fr. Karloutsos have drawn $30 million form “Faith Initiative” and “Leadership 100” to pay for finishing St.Nicholas?  If so, why are you hiding it? Nobody of course expects you to explain the legality of this act –  this is the least of our concerns… But it would show your complete lack of credibility after abusing the first $40 million collected by the faithful… Not to mention the nearly $17 million footed by New York taxpayers, as the Port Authority provided the foundation upon which you were called to build a 3,700 square foot Church and you failed… Until you account for the missing funds, you will all be guilty in the conscience of the people, and hopefully soon in the Court of Law…
