Our readers have already observed that I am inclined to approach any situation that deserves to be investigated following the old Latin principle my Law professors in Greece made sure to imprint on my young skull: “Cuius Bono?”, which is translated “Who benefits?” On the issue of how we came about to be dealing with such a disaster in the US at a time when the American economy had reached its highest peak in the last 70 years, I have no difficulty naming several domestic or foreign actors who would truly benefit from the sudden depression we are now all faced with.  Make no mistake: We will overcome the virus in a matter of months but, if we do not react quickly and in unity, the economic plague will be with us for years.  Seeking the culprits in our globalized society, it is obvious that the domestic factors are intertwined with the foreign; however, I will leave others aside for the moment in order to focus on the one foreign actor clearly “benefiting” the most from inflicting an economic blow to America at this particular moment in time.  This is China.

Timing is the most suspicious: a) On-going negotiations with the Trump administration had achieved already serious concessions from China, and were certain to continue to a second phase with the goal to eradicate all privileges granted to China from previous administrations and also to put a stop on the unlawful ways of tapping into our technological and defense secrets.  b) A few months before the almost guaranteed re-election of President Trump, the leader of the “anti-China” movement in the U.S.  c) At a moment when recession in China (in contrast with the rapidly growing American economy), threatened the communist Chinese leaders with the most dreaded of all their fears, that is how to provide work to their 1.4 billion subjects.  And also how to sustain their rule, as well as their global ambitions through BRI (Belt-and-Road) expansion. 4) The virus started spreading a few weeks before the lunar new year celebration, when the whole of China takes a one month vacation and many millions travel abroad.  Coincidentally, the communist government refused to let US experts visit Wuhan, lied by telling foreign governments that the virus does not transmit between humans and suppressed the truth about other data regarding Covid-19. Even more, they used WHO, whose president was put in his position with their support, to “sing along” to their lies…

Analysts will try for a long time to find “proof” of the crime.  The first signs of such proof came a few weeks ago in late January, with a series of arrests of American and Chinese scientists by the CIA: A Harvard professor and two Chinese Nationals were indicted in three separate China related cases (you can read the indictment here and watch a video here).  We should be reminded that, in contrast with what happened in Pearl Harbor about 80 years ago, it will take some time to put our fingers on the real proof of those who committed this crime.  In the meantime, we have enough indications and we should start preparing, after we have controlled the invisible enemy, to deal with the visible one.

We have already determined that Covid-19 was not made in a lab, and our most prestigious labs have proved that the virus displays all signs of natural evolution. At the same time it is obvious that any sinister plot would avoid using an obvious bio-weapon in order not to cause an immediate military attack from the U.S and its allies. No need to underline here that we are not dealing with novices in the “art of war”, but with the descendants of Sun Tzu… They would never choose a bio-weapon made in a lab but they could certainly manipulate a very dangerous “naturally evolved” virus. Especially if they already have the experience of SARS in 2003, a virus that is proven to have passed from bats to humans, in similar evolutionary ways as Covid-19 (see a full recent report here).

It did not take much time for this theory to attract some serious conspiratorial elements, as the Washington Post, just two days ago, reported that Chinese researchers isolated deadly bat coronaviruses near Wuhan animal market.  And it caught fire by another story about a documentary, showing a Chinese virus researcher from the same province of Wuhan catching wild bats inside Hubei caves I am sure many related stories are about to follow as we unfold the thread of events that led to a modern Pearl Harbor…

In the meantime, the communist leadership of China is buying “good will” by sending planeloads of medical supplies all over Europe and even to suffering New York… And it is taking advantage of the prevalent climate of “political correctness” in western academia and the political establishment, which would never accuse them of anything.  “We know in China so many of our loved ones are facing the challenge of coronavirus,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said before this year’s parade (celebrating the Lunar New Year in NYC), flanked by state and local officials. “But we stand together,” he said. “No matter what’s thrown at us in this city, we are united.” Here is what New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on the same occasion: “We went through this before: Zika virus, Ebola, etc. But let’s have some connection to the reality of the situation,” he said. “Catching the flu right now is a much greater risk than anything that has anything to do with coronavirus.” (Here is the source).  We can go on and on with the statements of those who are now “turning on a dime” to accuse their political opponents for “not paying attention to the virus”… Alas, as in Pearl Harbor, America was caught largely by surprise, despite the early decision by President Trump to block flights from China (January 31)…

As our political establishment has since shown some signs of bipartisan cooperation, after four years of bitter division, it is now clear that the upcoming war will be primarily fought and won on the economic front, with the military escalation lagging behind and hopefully in the end being avoided.  America can secure victory: a) By proving to the world that we can control the spread of the virus using our social skills, our entrepreneurship and our scientific knowledge.  b) By showing to all, and especially to China, that the productive capabilities of this country can be re-established in record time to face these challenges, despite decades of exporting all of our industries abroad. c) By achieving political unity.

One mistake we should not make, that this is not a war! And it is clearly a war not just against an invisible virus but against a very visible foreign power…  At an unsuspecting moment, in May 2019, the Chinese establishment had sent a very ominous message to the US: “We advise the U.S. side not to underestimate the Chinese side’s ability to safeguard its development rights and interests. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!” They certainly did, in the same way they had declared war in the past…  A least they followed their traditions, communist or not…
