The most worrisome part of all that we are witnessing the last few years is the arrival of a new wave of brainwashing and “cancel culture” bound to level everything we traditionally consider sacred in our Church and community.  Should I remind everyone that the first act of the new Congress under the obviously deranged Nancy Pelosi was to cancel “sexist” terms like “mother, father, uncle, aunt, cousin, etc” from the “speech code” of the House of Representatives?  Details of this story we posted a few days ago – please link here)…  How long do you think it will take the leftist teachers’ unions before they apply the new “ideology” in all public schools?  I would say they will act very fast in their feverish effort to “change America” and destroy the values we consider sacred and holy… They have already started “cleansing” history years ago…

At the same time, the left’s extremist move presents all parochial schools with a huge opportunity. The fact is – and recent statistics have verified it – that America is a conservative country: About 40% of the people declare themselves as conservatives, while at least another 30% describe themselves as moderates.  Does anyone among us think that over 70% of the people would want to send their children to schools that eliminate terms like “mother” and “father”?  No, of course not.  And many of them will start looking for alternatives – of which there are not many. This is why almost one million people moved away from NYC (please read our post about Megan Kelly and why she took her kids out of their liberal schools and moved to another state).

I could go on and on… The examples are plentiful…  Would anyone in GOA take this opportunity for the expansion of the remaining parochial schools?  Will anyone sit down and make a plan for attracting those potential new students? Let me note here that, if this trend continues, there is absolutely no point for us to demand charter schools as they are controlled by state authorities, which are in turn controlled by leftist teacher’s unions and will promote (the right word is: force down our throats) “cancel culture”.  While in the case of our parochial schools we can control the educational program and the values we teach… Which way GOA will go? With the “easy state money” or with our values? We are hoping the latter because in this case, we have un our hands a big opportunity to revive our remaining parochial schools.

Maybe it’s time for A.Koularmanis, GOA education director, to prove that the title “Dr” he insists on putting in front of his name has some real value… This is exactly the work of those who hold doctoral degrees outside the medical field: to do research, to plan ahead, and to organize…

I am anxiously awaiting…

  1. The Corona School should never have shut down; Nassau County “shoulda woulda coulda” had at least one Academia; maybe Suffolk County, but the demographics are trending a huge movement of young Greek Orthodox Families -so many leaving Queens for– Nassau County- Suffolk County has seen the Queens Senior’ population moving there. Worth looking into– it’s all over for NYC and the five Boroughs…

  2. Agreed, excellent points made here! This is the time for private schools under GOA to step up and prove that they can provide a “quality” education and for our priests teach our children to preserve our Greek Orthodox faith!
