EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis): Today we are publishing a few more rare photos presented by Mr.Dimosthenes Triantafyllou showing important moments of the school’s history. Please read the explanation/ rubric below (English and Greek). Most of the facts and names are known from previous posts. I will, however, underline here one fact: Mr. Triantafyllou in the statements below and in other statements always makes reference to Nick Andriotis and many other leaders of the Astoria community. Andriotis on the other side, in the hundreds of pages of his book he NEVER mentions the founder of the school Mr.Triantafyllou BY NAME – ONLY INDIRECTLY TO OFFER CRITICISM… This fact alone shows the difference in character between a decent person, educated and humble in every way, and an uneducated tyrant, full of psychological complexes, arrogant and corrupt Andriotis – who managed by the end of his career today to empty the Church of all members of the younger generations…
Mr. Triantafyllou, a real leader in education (who went on to have a very successful career in public education after Andriotis kicked him out from the School in 1982), will be ready to publish his book about the history of the St.Demetrios School in the next few months…

The History of the First Greek-American Parochial High School, The St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox High School in Astoria, N. Y.
The High School was founded in September of 1975 with its first 9th Grade and was completed in June 1979 with the graduation of the first 12th Grade.
The Principal who founded and completed the High school was Mr. Demosthenes Triantafillou in charge of the school from 1973-1982, the golden years of the St. Demetrios School.
When Mr. Triantafillou was hired in September of 1973, the school had only 550 students in Gtades 1-8 . By 1980
Mr. Triantafillou had increased the enrollment to 1,418 students and had completed the High School, thus creating a complete system with Elementary and High School, the only one still in existence now in the year of 2021 in the USA!

Δύο αναμνηστικές ιστορικές φωτογραφίες από το προσεχές βιβλίο του
Διευθυντή Δημοσθένη Τριανταφύλλου με το προσωπικό του σχολείου στην πρώτη φώτο και την απονομή διπλωμάτων σε απόφοιτους του Λυκείου στη δεύτερη. Το Λύκειο ιδρύθηκε τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1975 με την πρώτη 9η τάξη και ολοκληρώθηκε τον Ιούνιο του 1979 με την αποφοίτηση της πρώτης 12ης Τάξης, Γ´ Λυκείου. Ο ιδρυτικός και πρώτος Διευθυντής του Λυκείου ο καθηγητής Δημοσθένης Τριανταφύλλου , 1973-1982. Ανέλαβε το σχολείο το 1973 με 550 μαθητές και το 1980 είχε αυξήσει τους μαθητές σε 1,418 και είχε δημιουργήσει και το παράρτημα στην Αγία Αικατερίνη όπου είχε μεταφέρει τις μικρότερες τάξεις, 1-3, και χρησιμοποίησε τις αίθουσες στον Άγιο Δημήτριο για το Λύκειο πριν την ανοικοδόμηση της επέκτασης ! Στην πρώτη φωτογραφία ο κ. Τριανταφύλλου με το άσπρο στην μέση μαζί με τους αξιωματούχους της Κοινότητας και το προσωπικό του σχολείου! Διακρίνονται ο κ. Τ. Κόκκινος, ο κ. Κ. Παρθένης , ο κ. Θ. Κουσούλας, η κ. Παρούλο , η κ. Κατου ,

Η σειρά του πρώτου Βιβλίου, «Μαθαίνω Ελληνικά», σε τρία τεύχη, για το Νηπιαγωγείο του Αγίου Δημητρίου που συνέγραψε η ομάδα των εκπαιδευτικών του Αγίου Δημητρίου με πρωτοβουλία του Διευθυντή κ. Τριανταφύλλου. Την έκδοση και των τριών τευχών χρηματοδότησε η κ. Ουρανία Γκολφινοπούλου το καλοκαίρι του 1979 και συμπλήρωσε το μεγάλο κενό που υπήρχε τότε για ένα κατάλληλο βιβλίο για το Νηπιαγείο των Κοινοτικών μας σχολείων. Το πρώτο στο είδος του! Συγχαρητήρια σε όλα τα μέλη της συγγραφικής ομάδας και στον κ. Τιμολέοντα Κόκκινο για τον συντονισμό του πρωτοποριακού αυτού
έργου!
