UPDATE JULY 16, 6 PM. (Nick Stamatakis)  After reviewing the two legal filings by the disgraced former TNH Publisher A. Diamataris (DIAMATARIS VS. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES AND  DIAMATARIS VS. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES- SECOND FILING) along with the numerous exhibits we note the following:

1. The lawsuit is bound to be dismissed by the NY Supreme Court on grounds of the statute of limitations which is six (6) years for similar cases (“Breach of Contract”).  Legal Precedent is plentiful and quite damning for the Diamataris case.
2. In his complaint, he states that he received two letters from Columbia University in December 2019 – after the explosion of the scandal and his “in-flight resignation /dismissal”.  The first letter, dated December 11, 2019, assures that “he has completed all the requirements for the MBA… and the degree will be conferred on him on February 12, 2020 (DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT 1). The second letter, dated December 16, 2019, just five days later, reverses the course and says that “we are in the process of solidifying our understanding of why your degree was not previously conferred. We will need to understand that prior to committing to confer the degree” (DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT B).  Four days later, on December 20, 2019, he appeared on Greek TV (Sky) and presented only the first letter!! So much for being forthcoming and straightforward!… Here is the 14′ minute interview for those who need to hear once again the Diamataris deceptions – the critical points are in the first 2-3 minutes…

3. Looking at the case from the point of view of the Dean of Columbia Business School, (Mr. Costis Maglaras – another Greek!) whose school is ranked #7 overall in the US, even if he would disregard the statute of limitations, why would he want to downgrade his School’s name by allowing someone who did not have the discipline to make sure he has acquired his BA and his MBA actual diploma and did nothing to get them for over 45 years? Would any person of such low intellect and ability be worth an MBA? Of course not…

4. Diamataris refers multiple times in his filings to his “being immersed” in hard work around the year 1977 because he was working at The National Herald, “the oldest Greek-speaking newspaper outside Greece etc…”  Yes, he acquired the newspaper (with his partner George Leonardos) in 1977 and he became a sole owner in 1979. A normal person in his position would give anything to have an MBA from Columbia framed and hung in his office.  But Not Diamataris!

5. Yes, for some time before 1977 he used to be employed at the advertising department of TNH.  Peter Makrias, the late publisher of “Estiator” magazine (died in August 2019 – may his memory be eternal), explained to me (exactly one year earlier in August 2018 when I visited him in his oceanfront condo in West Palm Beach) an episode of Diamataris’ “success” as an advertising assistant at TNH: “He was so useless that they were asking me to fire him”, Peter said to me and he added: “I talked to him and felt sorry and decided to give him a second chance”. Yes, my friends, this describes exactly the “business qualities” of Diamataris that many of us know and remember over the last 4-5 decades…

More on these “formative” years, described in such a positive light in Diamataris’ lawsuit, can be said by others who knew him or about him at that time.  Among them was the publisher of “KALAMI.us”, George Lykomitros, who was then the editor-in-chief of “Proini” at a very young age.  Diamataris says in the SKY TV interview (above) for Proini: “We had great competition from Proini, as it had introduced modern publishing and printing technology…”  KALAMI, I am sure will soon describe these years in full detail… And he will have to say a lot on how exactly Diamataris acquired TNH – certainly not by his completely absent money and even more absent business skills…

ΕΝΗΜΕΡΩΣΗ 16 ΙΟΥΛΙΟΥ 6μμ, (Νίκος Σταματάκης): Αφού εξετάσαμε τις αγωγές του πρώην εκδότη του Εθνικού Κήρυκα Διαματάρη DIAMATARIS VS. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES και DIAMATARIS VS. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES- SECOND FILING) μαζί με τα πολυάριθμα εκθέματα παρατηρούμε τα εξής:

1. Η αγωγή αναμένεται να απορριφθεί από το Ανώτατο Δικαστήριο της Νέας Υόρκης λόγω παραγραφής που είναι έξι (6) έτη για παρόμοιες υποθέσεις (“Παραβίαση Σύμβασης”). Το νομικά προηγούμενα είναι άφθονα και αρκετά καταδικαστικά για την υπόθεση του Διαματάρη.
2. Στην καταγγελία του, δηλώνει ότι έλαβε δύο επιστολές από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κολούμπια τον Δεκέμβριο του 2019 – μετά την έκρηξη του σκανδάλου και  «την εν πτήσει παραίτηση /απόλυσή του». Η πρώτη επιστολή με ημερομηνία 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2019 διαβεβαιώνει ότι “έχει συμπληρώσει όλες τις προϋποθέσεις για το MBA … και θα του απονεμηθεί το πτυχίο στις 12 Φεβρουαρίου 2020 (DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT 1). Η δεύτερη επιστολή, με ημερομηνία 16 Δεκεμβρίου, Το 2019, μόλις πέντε ημέρες αργότερα, αντιστρέφει τη διαβεβαίωση και λέει ότι “βρισκόμαστε στη διαδικασία ενίσχυσης της κατανόησής μας για το γιατί δεν απονεμήθηκε προηγουμένως το πτυχίο σας. Θα πρέπει να το καταλάβουμε αυτό πριν δεσμευτούμε να απονείμουμε το πτυχίο “(DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT B). Τέσσερις μέρες αργότερα, στις 20 Δεκεμβρίου 2019 εμφανίστηκε στην ελληνική τηλεόραση (Sky) και παρουσίασε μόνο το πρώτο γράμμα!! 3. Κοιτάζοντας την υπόθεση από την άποψη του πρύτανη του Columbia Business School, (ο κ. Κωστής Μαγκλάρας – άλλος Έλληνας!) του οποίου η Σχολή κατατάσσεται στην 7η θέση στις ΗΠΑ, και τα πτυχία του αξίζουν εκατομμύρια: Γιατί θα ήθελε ο κ.Μαγκλάρας να υποβαθμίσει το όνομα της Σχολής του επιτρέποντας σε κάποιον που δεν είχε την αυτοπειθαρχία να βεβαιωθεί ότι έχει το δίπλωμα BA και MBA για πάνω από 45 χρόνια; Μήπως κάποιο άτομο με τόσο χαμηλή διάνοια και ικανότητα αξίζει ένα MBA; Φυσικά και όχι…
4. Ο Διαματάρης αναφέρεται πολλές φορές στο ότι έπεσε στη σκληρή δουλειά γύρω στο έτος 1977 επειδή δούλευε στον Εθνικό Κήρυκα, «την παλαιότερη ελληνόφωνη εφημερίδα εκτός Ελλάδας κ.λπ.» Ναι, απέκτησε την εφημερίδα (με τον συνεταίρο του Γιώργο Λεονάρδο) το 1977 και έγινε ο μόνος ιδιοκτήτης το 1979. Ένα κανονικό άτομο στη θέση του θα επεδίωκε να έχει το δίπλωμα MBA από την Κολούμπια κορνιζαρισμένο και κρεμασμένο στο γραφείο του. Αλλά όχι ο Διαματάρης!

5. Ναι, για κάποιο χρονικό διάστημα πριν το 1977 εργαζόταν στο διαφημιστικό τμήμα του ΕΚ. Ο Παναγιώτης Μακριάς, ο μακαρίτης εκδότης του περιοδικού “Estiator” (μας άφησε τον Αύγουστο του 2019 – αιωνία η μνήμη του), που ήταν τότε διευθυντής του Ε.Κ. μου εξήγησε (ακριβώς ένα χρόνο νωρίτερα, τον Αύγουστο του 2018 όταν τον επισκέφτηκα στο παραθαλάσσιο διαμέρισμά του στο West Palm Beach) πόσο άξιζε ο Διαματάρης ως βοηθός διαφήμισης: “Ήταν τόσο άχρηστος (“σκράπας” ήταν η λέξη που χρησιμοποίησε) που μου ζήτησαν να τον απολύσω”, μου είπε ο Παναγιώτης και πρόσθεσε: “Μίλησα μαζί του όμως και ένιωσα άσχημα και αποφάσισα να του δώσω μια ακόμα ευκαιρία”. Ναι φίλοι μου, αυτή είναι ακριβώς η «επιχειρηματική ποιότητα» του Διαματάρη που πολλοί από εμάς γνωρίζουμε και θυμόμαστε τις τελευταίες 4-5 δεκαετίες …

Περισσότερα για αυτά τα «διαπλαστικά» χρόνια, που περιγράφονται με τόσο θετικό φως στην αγωγή του Διαματάρη, μπορούν να ειπωθούν από άλλους που τον γνώριζαν εκείνη την εποχή. Ανάμεσά τους ήταν ο εκδότης του “KALAMI.us”, ο Γιώργος Λυκομήτρος, ο οποίος τότε ήταν ο αρχισυντάκτης της”Πρωϊνής” σε πολύ μικρή ηλικία. Ο Διαματάρης λέει στην τηλεοπτική συνέντευξη SKY (παραπάνω) για την Πρωϊνή: “Είχαμε μεγάλο ανταγωνισμό από την Πρωϊνή, καθώς είχε εισαγάγει τη σύγχρονη τεχνολογία εκδόσεων και εκτυπώσεων …” Το KALAMI, είμαι σίγουρος ότι σύντομα θα περιγράψει αυτά τα χρόνια με κάθε λεπτομέρεια … Και θα πρέπει να πει πολλά για το πώς ακριβώς ο Διαματάρης απέκτησε τον ΕΚ – σίγουρα όχι από τα εντελώς ανύπαρκτα χρήματά του και τις ακόμη πιο ανύπαρκτες επιχειρηματικές του ικανότητες….

EDITOR’S NOTE (NICK STAMATAKIS): In a surprising development, disgraced TNH Publisher Antonis Diamataris sued Columbia University to force the School to give him his MBA, NY Post reporter Priscilla De Gregory says (below).  According to NY Post, Diamataris claims that “Columbia has breached that contract by refusing to confer the MBA degree even as it admits that Mr. Diamataris satisfied all of Columbia’s academic requirements for the degree”.

The whole issue lies with his Queens College undergraduate diploma which he was supposed to receive in 1974.  Diamataris says he didn’t know when he was graduating that he needed to submit an application for the undergraduate diploma and therefore he never technically received it. This led Columbia to dismiss him from his MBA program in 1976, but according to the court filing, he was never told he had been booted. Still, Diamataris says he completed all the classes, paid all of his tuition fees and lived his life believing he had gotten the MBA in 1977.

The whole legal claim by Diamataris lies in the fact that he belatedly received his B.A. Degree from Queens College last September 2020 (Here it is as “Exhibit E” from yesterday’s filings DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT E).  We very much would like to learn details about how he received his degree almost 50 years later.  If he had all academic requirements in 1974 and then in 1976 (when Columbia officially dropped him out of the MBA program) why didn’t he correct them then? Maybe he tried to correct the issue and Columbia rejected his efforts at that time? What kind of an MBA candidate he would be if he couldn’t fulfill a simple bureaucratic procedure? First he did not get his actual B.A. (undergraduate) diploma and then he “forgot” to get his actual MBA diploma? Diamataris, if he was ever to be a good MBA, he proved very early to be a real sloppy “graduate”…  These are among many other questions which we will attempt to answer once we see the Court papers…

And finally, the question that comes back again and again: Why did he have to lie on his resume? 

The expression “the gift that keeps on giving” was invented for situations like this, and it applies to this piece of news. Narcissistic people keep making the same mistake again and again, underestimating the IQ of all around them until the very end.  What is this very end? In most cases either a jail or a mental institution… The recent sentencing of lawyer Michael Avenatti to 32 months in jail proves it. Just 2-3 years ago he was supposed to run for president…

O Διαματάρης καταθέτει αγωγή κατά του πανεπιστημίου Κολούμπια για να πάρει το πτυχίο του!

Σε μια εκπληκτική εξέλιξη, ο ντροπιασμένος εκδότης της TNH, Αντώνης Διαματάρης, μήνυσε το Πανεπιστήμιο Κολούμπια για να αναγκάσει τη Σχολή Επιχιερήσεων του πανεπιστημίου να του δώσει το MBA του, λέει η δημοσιογράφος της NY Post, Priscilla De Gregory (παρακάτω). Σύμφωνα με την NY Post, ο Διαματάρης ισχυρίζεται ότι «το Columbia παραβίασε αυτό το συμβόλαιο αρνούμενo να απονείμει το πτυχίο MBA, παρόλο που παραδέχεται ότι ο κ. Διαματάρης ικανοποίησε όλες τις ακαδημαϊκές απαιτήσεις του Columbia για το πτυχίο».

Το όλο θέμα έγκειται στο προπτυχιακό δίπλωμα του Queens College που έπρεπε ο Διαματάρης να λάβει το 1974. Ο Διαματάρης λέει ότι δεν ήξερε όταν αποφοίτησε ότι έπρεπε να υποβάλει αίτηση για το προπτυχιακό δίπλωμα και ως εκ τούτου τεχνικά ποτέ δεν το έλαβε. Αυτό οδήγησε το πανεπιστήμιο Κολούμπια να τον αποβάλλει από το πρόγραμμα MBA του το 1976, αλλά σύμφωνα με την αγωγή, δεν του είπαν ποτέ ότι είχε αποβληθεί. Ωστόσο, ο Διαματάρης λέει ότι ολοκλήρωσε όλα τα μαθήματα, πλήρωσε όλα τα δίδακτρα και έζησε τη ζωή του πιστεύοντας ότι είχε πάρει το MBA το 1977.

Ολόκληρη η νομική αξίωση του Διαματάρη έγκειται στο γεγονός ότι έλαβε πολύ αργά το B.A. πτυχίο από το Queens College τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2020 (Το βλέπετε εδώ “Exhibit E” από τα δικόγραφα που κατατέθηκαν χθες DIAMATARIS – EXHIBIT E). . Θα θέλαμε πάρα πολύ να μάθουμε λεπτομέρειες για το πώς έλαβε το πτυχίο του σχεδόν 50 χρόνια αργότερα. Εάν είχε όλες τις ακαδημαϊκές προϋποθέσεις το 1974 και αργότερα το 1976 (όταν το Κολούμπια τον απέβαλλε επίσημα από το πρόγραμμα MBA) γιατί δεν διόρθωσε το ζήτημα τότε; Ίσως προσπάθησε να το διορθώσει και το Κολούμπια απέρριψε τις προσπάθειές του εκείνη τη στιγμή… Τι είδους υποψήφιος MBA θα ήταν αν δεν μπορούσε να εκπληρώσει μια απλή γραφειοκρατική διαδικασία; Πρώτα δεν πήρε το πραγματικό του B.A. (προπτυχιακό) δίπλωμα και στη συνέχεια “ξέχασε” να πάρει το πραγματικό του δίπλωμα MBA; Ο Διαματάρης, αν ήταν ποτέ να γίνει καλός πτυχιούχος MBA, αποδείχθηκε πολύ νωρίς ως πραγματικά απρόσεκτος και ανεπαρκής “απόφοιτος” … Αυτά είναι μεταξύ πολλών άλλων ερωτήσεων που θα προσπαθήσουμε να απαντήσουμε όταν λάβουμε τα πραγματικά έγγραφα του Δικαστηρίου …

Και τέλος, το ερώτημα που επανέρχεται ξανά και ξανά: Γιατί έπρεπε να πεί ψέματα στο βιογραφικό του;

Ανθρωποι που υποφέρουν από ναρκισσισμό συνεχίζουν να κάνουν το ίδιο λάθος ξανά και ξανά, υποτιμώντας τη νοημοσύνη όλων γύρω τους μέχρι το τέλος. Ποιό είναι αυτό το τέλος; Στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις είτε φυλακή είτε ψυχιατρικό ίδρυμα … Η πρόσφατη καταδίκη του δικηγόρου Michael Avenatti σε 32 μήνες φυλάκισης το αποδεικνύει. NY man sues Columbia Business School over decades-old MBA snafu

A Greek-American newspaper publisher has sued the Columbia Business School over a clerical snafu that prevented him from getting his MBA in the 1970s — a technical error he only discovered more than 40 years later.

Antonis Diamataris embarrassingly had to step down from a job in the Greek government after the mix up came to light three years ago, according to a Greek news report.

Diamataris is now demanding that the Ivy League school rectify the situation by giving him his sheepskin, court papers show.

“Columbia has breached that contract by refusing to confer the MBA degree even as it admits that Mr. Diamataris satisfied all of Columbia’s academic requirements for the degree,” said the news honcho’s Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday.

Diamataris, who is the publisher for daily Greek newspaper the National Herald, says the issue went back to a problem with his 1974 bachelor’s degree from Queens College.

The Greek immigrant, who now lives in Nassau County, says he didn’t know when he was graduating that he needed to submit an application for the undergraduate diploma and therefore he never technically received it, the court papers say.

This led Columbia to dismiss him from the his MBA program in 1976, but according to the court filing, he was never told he had been booted.

Still, Diamataris says he completed all the classes, paid all of his tuition fees and lived his life believing he had gotten the MBA in 1977.

He didn’t attend the graduation ceremony as he was “focused” on his work at the newspaper, the court documents say.

It was only after Diamataris was appointed by the Greek Prime Minister in 2019 to be Deputy Minister for Expatriate Greeks that he found out from Greek media reports that he hadn’t actually received the degree from Columbia, the suit says.

Since then, Diamataris has been working to get to the bottom of it and obtain his diploma.

Meanwhile, Diamataris was forced to resign from the Greek government post amid allegations that he falsified his resume, according to a report by Neos Kosmos.

Diamataris claims he has since corrected the issue with Queens College, and finally received his physical diploma last November. But he still hasn’t been able to resolve the issue with Columbia, the filing says.

Diamataris and his lawyer had been working with the school to try to resolve the problem but recently he has been met with radio silence as the school has not answered his lawyer’s most recent message from April 28, the papers allege.

The court papers say the diploma “error that has nothing whatsoever to do with Mr. Diamataris’ academic performance at Columbia Business School and his satisfaction of its academic requirement.” They also say “that ministerial error has been cured.”

He is asking a judge to force the school to give him the degree.

Columbia did not immediately return a request for comment.
