Theodorakis’ Last Speech: “The Most Dangerous Form Of Fascism Comes From the Left!!”

“I am not ashamed, like the nation-deniers who are governing Greece, to stay faithful to the holy shadows of our ancestors who taught us to love our homeland and our nation. This is a homeland that respects all the homelands of the world. I am a patriot internationalist and I fight fascism in all its forms and, above all, its more dangerous form, the one that comes from the Left!! Skopie are distorting our history!!”

This is what Mikis Theodorakis said on February 5, 2018, speaking in a huge demonstration in Athens against the Tsipras government plan to accept the Prespes agreement for the name of Macedonia, an agreement that today, just 3 years later, proved to be totally one-sided and mismanaged, thanks in part to the involvement of the US State Department.

If you did not know these are the words of Mikis Theodorakis and you just saw the above quotation you would think that it was President Trump that pronounced these “nationalistic” tenets and not someone who just two days ago the NY Times called a “Marxist Rebel” on the headline of their obituary…

You may also wonder, those of you who do not catch up with news from Greece frequently, how come you have not noticed that Mikis had issued such a momentous statement, written and read by himself.  (Parenthesis: Up to the day of his death at age 96, he had the gift of intellectual clarity and wrote all his speeches and statements by himself…) The answer is that the overwhelming majority of those in the Greek and Greek-American (as well as the international) media are “leftists”, having grown up at the times of Soviet-style communism and still trying to save their ill-fated ideology by hiding the truth from the rest of us…

Mikis was, above all else, a quintessential “Ellinas” and he had crossed the ideological lines several times – the above quotation was only the last one: 1) He was part of the youth organization formed by the right wing dictator Ioannis Metaxas (1937-1941). 2) He supported right wing leader Konstantinos Karamanlis in 1974 inventing and propagating the famous slogan “Karamanlis or tanks” (the latter being a symbol of the dictatorship of 1967-74). 3) He became a minister of the right wing government of Konstantine Mitsotakis (1991-93). As I explained a few days ago, for him saying “I was always a communist” basically meant eliminating injustice and establishing peace in the world in a sense much close to Christianity.  He has always a Christian and his funeral will be in the Church…

Given that this was his last public speech, at age 93, you can be sure that he meant for this statement to be his legacy for all of us… To encourage us at a time that our freedoms are at risk…

O πιο επικίνδυνος φασισμός είναι ο αριστερόστροφος

“Δεν ντρέπομαι, όπως κάνουν οι εθνομηδενισές που μας κυβερνούν, να είμαι πιστός στις άγιες σκιές των προγόνων μας που μας έμαθαν να αγαπάμε την πατρίδα και το έθνος μας. Αυτή είναι μια πατρίδα που σέβεται όλες τις πατρίδες του κόσμου . Είμαι πατριώτης διεθνιστής και πολεμώ τον φασισμό σε όλες του τις μορφές και, πάνω απ ‘όλα, την πιο επικίνδυνη μορφή του, αυτή που προέρχεται από την Αριστερά !! Τα Σκόπια διαστρεβλώνουν την ιστορία μας !!”

Αυτό είπε ο Μίκης Θεοδωράκης στις 5 Φεβρουαρίου 2018, μιλώντας σε μια τεράστια διαδήλωση στην Αθήνα κατά του σχεδίου της κυβέρνησης Τσίπρα να αποδεχθεί τη συμφωνία των Πρεσπών για το όνομα της Μακεδονίας, συμφωνία που σήμερα, μόλις 3 χρόνια αργότερα, αποδείχθηκε εντελώς μονόπλευρη και κακή, χάρη εν μέρει στη συμμετοχή του αμερικανικού υπουργείου Εξωτερικών.

Αν δεν γνωρίζατε αυτά είναι τα λόγια του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη και βλέπατε το παραπάνω απόσπασμα θα νομίζατε ότι ήταν ο Πρόεδρος Τραμπ αυτός που είπε αυτές τις “εθνικιστικές” κορώνες και όχι κάποιος που μόλις πριν από δύο ημέρες οι New York Times αποκαλούσαν “Μαρξιστή Αντάρτη” στον τίτλο της νεκρολογίας τους…

Μπορεί επίσης να αναρωτηθείτε, όσοι δεν ενημερώνεστε συχνά από την Ελλάδα, πώς δεν είχατε δει ότι ο Μίκης είχε εκδώσει μια τόσο σημαντική δήλωση, γραμμένη και διαβασμένη από τον ίδιο. (Παρένθεση: Μέχρι την ημέρα του θανάτου του σε ηλικία 96 ετών, διακρίθηκε από διανοητική διαύγεια και έγραψε όλες τις ομιλίες και τις δηλώσεις του μόνος του …) Η απάντηση είναι ότι η συντριπτική πλειοψηφία των Ελλήνων και Ελληνοαμερικανών δημοσιογράφων (καθώς και τα διεθνή) ΜΜΕ είναι “αριστερά”, αφού έχουν μεγαλώσει την εποχή του σοβιετικού τύπου κομμουνισμού και εξακολουθούν να προσπαθούν να σώσουν την άτυχη ιδεολογία τους κρύβοντας την αλήθεια από εμάς τους άλλους…

Ο Μίκης ήταν πάνω απ ’όλα ένας γνήσιος «Έλληνας»: 1) Ηταν μέρος της νεολαίας του δεξιού δικτάτορα Μεταξά στα νιάτα του (1937-1941), 2) Υποστήριξε τον ηγέτη της δεξιάς Κωνσταντίνο Καραμανλή το 1974 προπαγανδίζοντας το περίφημο σύνθημα “Καραμανλής ή τανκς» (τα τελευταίο ήταν σύμβολα της δικτατορίας του 1967-74). 3) Έγινε υπουργός της δεξιάς κυβέρνησης του Κωνσταντίνου Μητσοτάκη (1991-93).

Δεδομένου ότι αυτή ήταν η τελευταία δημόσια ομιλία του, σε ηλικία 93 ετών, μπορείτε να είστε βέβαιοι ότι εννοούσε αυτή η δήλωση να είναι η κληρονομιά του για όλους μας – να μας ενθαρρύνουν σε στιγμές που οι ελευθερίες μας κινδυνεύουν…
