EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis): A few weeks ago we were commenting about the Turkish / Islamic origins of “hand-kissing” as a gesture of slavish subordination to a “Sultan” or “Pasha”. AB Elpidophoros not only proudly participated, as the good Turkish citizen that he is, in the grand opening ceremony yesterday of the “Turkish House” in NYC, but as he was greeting Erdogan he seems to have made the effort to kiss his hand… He brought eternal shame to our community and he himself opened the discussion for his immediate removal! No further comments…

Time for Greek faithful to demand his resignation.
Anaxios!
Shameful. Not only does he disrespect the descendants of Greek genocide victims but all Christians.
Elpi is one of the destroyers of Orthodox Christianity. He is a sham, a turdish turd.
Phew!
Any clergy that would kiss the hand of Erdogan, Biden, Putin, or the Easter Bunny should be defrocked.
Elpidophoros has been a train wreck for us time and again; BLM march, celebrating service in heterodox building flying LGBT flag, officially forbidding the GOA from providing letters of religious exemption regarding the Covid19 “vaccination”, ….
I proudly belong to the growing group of dissenters that has been blocked from his social media page.
Here, here
He’s been ΑΝΑΞΙΟΣ since long before his enthronement, even when he published and signed his name under that heretical opinion that the Patriarch of Constantinople was “first without equals” (primus sine paribus)…and now he’s clearly adding the title of ΠΡΟΔΟΤΗΣ to the list, by betraying the faithful…shaking the hand (a.k.a. congratulating) and bowing to the sultan “wannabe” that reverted St. Sophia back to operating as a mosque…is that how you “bow your way” to the Patriarchal candidate short-list these days?
This is the exact personification of a Wolf dressed in Sheepskin…it’s time for people to fully audit where their “donations” are actually going, and abandon this spineless compromiser to preach his nonsense alone in empty buildings…. The epistle to Titus fully justifies it…”After a first and second admonition, abandon a heretical man…”
O yeah, and that reminds me… in Astoria he tried to provide his own definition of the word “heretic”, insulting the Greeks attending St. Demetrios by claiming that they didn’t understand ancient Greek…yet, his definition was much different from the one that St. Basil provided centuries ago in his epistles….did St. Basil not know ancient Greek either? Enough with the deceptions! We aren’t uneducated idiots for the clergy to deceive…we can read Patristics too.
Time to not support the churches, once Bartholomew doesn’t get his American, Canadian and Australian funds he will pull him out like he did Spyridon in the 90’s.
Teach the word of Christ not politics.
We definitely should leave these churches that have fallen into heresy, and bankruptcy would be their just desserts. But they probably already thought of that and they’re banking on the Freemasons and the Vatican to fund them (one and the same). The sooner they go West the better, so we can finally break off instead of this agonizing limbo we find ourselves in. I just hope the other Orthodox jurisdictions don’t follow suit.
From the very beginning I had said that the head of this person is completely empty……
Oh, c’mon, Nick!! Stop causing trouble! You’re a much smarter man than that. The Archbishop certainly was NOT kissing Erdoğan’s hand. He was leaning into him so he could hear him better. It’s so obvious! Just watch the video again. Erdoğan was saying something to the Archbishop and, because there was so much noise all around, he leaned in and Erdoğan probably just repeated what he said to him. Ακούς εκεί, he went to kiss Erdoğan’s hand… what’s the matter with you??
Do you imply that he is not that slavish to the Turks? You have lost this argument before it started… The hand-kissing looks likely exactly because it reflects very symbolically his behaviour over the last few years…
Nick, you’re crazy. You WANT it to look like he’s kissing his hand so you can have a juicy article. Sorry… he is NOT kissing Erdoğan’s hand. It’s so obvious. You have to remember that Elpidophoros is from the Phanar and he has dealt with the Turkish governments. He knows Erdoğan personally and has had many conversations with him, in both personal situations and as an official representative of the Patriarch. For him to bow and kiss his hand makes absolutely NO sense. And in that video, that is clearly NOT what he’s doing. YOU are the one that has lost the argument because you are the one that CREATED the argument. The video is ridiculous: Elpidophoros’s back is to the camera, there are all kinds of people moving around and causing a commotion, they’re all wearing masks so you can’t see any SPEAKING let alone kissing, and you’re creating a scenario that clearly never happened. Just look at the body language! Look how he is leaning in! Nick, you have a good thing going here with Helleniscope. You can be famous just by reporting on the TRUTH. I don’t think you need to make stuff up just to get an article. Unless, of course, you WANT to be known as the “National Enquirer” of the Hellenic world! Please…
Well, you need to come down to reality… Before he was elected he was reported to be an agent of the Turkish intelligence (MIT) – and I was among the very few to report it… As far as who won the argument please take a look at the news: Both the Greek prime minister Mitsotakis and the President of Cyprus Anastasiades – who are also in New York this week, canceled visits with him because of his “bow” to Erdogan… It’s time for you to wake up… And it’s time for “Elpidoktonos” to go back where he came from…

Nick, I AM grounded in reality. I also know the games and the lies, many of which you DO accurately report. But let’s not get carried away! Elpidophoros “was reported” to be an agent of MIT? “Reported” BY WHOM?? Some other newspaper? A rumor? Has ANY of this been proven true? And Mitsotakis and Anastasiadis didn’t cancel their visits with Erdogan because Elpidophoros “bowed”, but because they felt he didn’t properly inform them. (Like he really had to! Anyway…)
I REPEAT: BOTH BARTHOLOMEW AND ELPIDOPHOROS SERVED IN THE TURKISH ARMED FORCES AND BOTH WERE EITHER TRAINED OR HAD SERIOUS TIES WITH TURKISH INTELLIGENCE – I DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THE CAPITALIZATION…

ELPIDOKTONOS IS DONE – NOTHING WILL SAVE HIM… YOU CANNOT SERVE BOTH CHRIST AND MAMMON AT THE SAME TIME AS WE ORTHODOX SAY…
AND YOU WILL HAVE TO LEARN TO TRUST ME AND OUR SOURCES… I COULD NAME A NUMBER OF REASONS WHY THE TURKS BLACKMAIL BARTHOLOMEW BUT I HAVE REFRAINED OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE PATRIARCHATE. HE PERSONALLY DOES NOT DESERVE ANY RESPECT.
It appears that we are missing the main point, while digressing / arguing about “leans vs. bows vs. kisses”….even if he were invited to the event, why would the Archbishop not boycott ANY invitation to attend an Erdogan sponsored event in NYC, especially after what Erdogan did to St. Sophia? How is it possible to show respect for someone who disrespected Orthodoxy in that manner? It’s true that the Patriarchate is still under Turkish occupation…that’s indisputable, and some compromises are natural to occur from time to time, but in Orthodoxy there are limits to how much anyone should compromise…All that “bowing” and “kind words” that we see all these years, and what’s the return on the “investment”? St. Sophia is operating as a mosque…does that sound like a good deal? That’s a textbook example of “Ottoman justice”…At a minimum, you have to agree that the optics are not good….by extension, along with these optics, the Lord’s words “you cannot serve 2 masters” come to mind in this case as well…
Markos, the answer to your question is very, very simple: he did not boycott any invitation to an Erdogan-sponsored event for the sake of the Patriarchate. We all know what a bastard this lunatic Erdogan is. He has a severe identity crisis and he thinks he’s the sultan. If WE disrespect him, he will take it out on the Patriarchate. Plain and simple. Unfortunately, we have to play his game so that he doesn’t do anything stupid. Mitsotakis and Anastasiades are not representatives of the Patriarchate, but Elpidophoros IS. Nick fails to understand this. Does he not remember that Patriarch Bartholomew said in an interview a couple of years ago that he feels “crucified”?? Does he NOT understand how our Patriarchate is practically held “hostage” over there? And no, the Patriarchate will NOT voluntarily move from Constantinople in order to preserve history and to preserve the ancient Church. That’s your answer. That’s the ONLY answer.
Bartholomew may be hostage but he is also holding hostage the whole of Hellenism. By exercising tremendous influence over the huge Hellenic Diaspora (US. UK, Canada, Australia, Europe etc) – and instructing the respective archbishops to keep Greek communities “sleepy” and inactive politically…He also controls ecclesiastically all Eastern Greek Islands (bordering Turkey) and the whole of Northern Greece. His personal flaws – known very well to the Turks – also make him a double hostage.
HELLENISM HAS FOUR ECUMENICAL LEGS/SUPPORTS: DIASPORA, ORTHODOXY, NAVIGATION/SHIPPING, AND CULTURAL TRADITION.
BARTHOLOMEW UNDERMINES THE POLITICAL ACTION OF THE GREEK DIASPORA AND HAS CAUSED THE SCHISM TO ORTHODOXY BY GIVING AUTOCEPHALY TO 25% OF UKRAINE..
HE IS AN ENEMY OF HELLENISM – NO IFS, ANDS, BUTS… HE IS AN ENEMY OF HELLENISM!!!
The archbishop may not have kissed Erdogan’s hand at the inauguration of the Turkish Center in New York City, but he certainly did kiss the “sultan’s” butt by attending the event.
